From a video 30 years ago, featuring the rehearsal and concert performances of Weber's Der Freischütz overture and Strauss II's Die Fledermaus overture.
And now, after watching the rehearsal, you must be wondering what the finished result sounds like. Here it is!

When this opera "Der Freischütz" of Karl Maria von Weber was performed, a very attentive and curious young musician was among the public: he learned every single tune and structure of this magnificent masterpiece of the German repertoire. His name was ... Richard Wagner ...
And Wagner recalled the opening horn theme of this overture in the beginning part of the Walhalla theme in the Ring of Nibelungs... at least that's my theory...
@@mariecoline this performance took place in 1970 hoy the premiére

Incredible how this piece is elevated under Kleiber's interpretation
Actually "Stupeflip Vite" is a french song about one of best french band from these last ten years, it may not be classical sophisticated music but it's enough thought to be excellent and to permit you to discover their album again at each listening. I'm glad they make me discover this track just by using a sample, so stop being so grumpy and open your mind, music is for everybody and to discover new things by different mean than the usual ones is part of the magic of this art ! Love you lapin !

For those who love this---and young Carlos is indeed mesmerizing--you need to listen to an old scratchy recording posted recently of his father, Erich, conducting this. The opening is even more mesmerizing! And I am, first and foremost, the most ardent Carlos fan. I also suggest his father's Schubert 3rd Symphony performance which, dare I say, is better than the son? Is it any wonder the son had such trepidations and self-conscious concerns? Yet he overcame them and became the even greater artist.
Quelle énergie, quel entrain, superbe !
a just love this. there is no better version and it won't ever be.
Herbert von Karajan is better I think.
Maxi H. Fuck Karajan.
The only better version is the one Kleiber himself recorded years later.
Maravilloso, maravilloso, maravilloso.

Playing this at school. Best recording I can find 👍
It really is. No one, really no one got this music like Kleiber did. I have never found anyone. No other recording, no live performance I attended. They all fall incredibly short. Kind of a constant dissapointment, because I keep waiting for the one that finally cracks Kleiber's secret and manages to at least be on his level. But no... no one so far did.
There is another recording that I prefer than this, and that is Kleiber's Staatskapelle Dresden recording, lol.
What a fascinating piece of film...........Kleiber's razer sharp phrasing, his fluid tempi, his finnesse..........Thank you so much for posting

Simply great! Masterpiece!
Under Kleiber, you would swear this is the greatest music ever written.
I have to agree. As always, Kleiber is lively. He makes me think he was a man who really enjoyed his job. That we toilets could be so blessed.
It's also a good example of what a great conductor can achieve with a second-rate orchestra
@@penmerch2804 honestly, I get it was a live performance and things happen but dang. The intonation on the clarinet solo, multiple slips on the horn soli, and the sloppy syncopations in the strings were pretty distracting. Nonetheless one of the most inspired and engaging performances of the piece on RUclips :)
love carlos kleiber -this video is historical - superb also the rehearsal is fantastic - it´s a treasure thank you have subbed too.

Just discovered this piece of vintage film. My favourite overture performed magnificently by a great orchestra old under the always-amazing Kleiber.
This glorious genius!

juste wow
You should hear Carlos Kleiber´s recording of the whole opera with the Dresdner Staatskapelle - it´s studio. Breathtaking!
Among others, furtwangler, jochum, bohm. keilberth, kempe, davis, matacic. Only Kleiber senior is a rival for fire.
@@ilirllukaci5345 If you only care for the "fire" in music then you are musically pretty uneducated.
Thank you for the recommendation! I will also say that the Sir Colin Davis complete Freischütz is also outstanding!
@@Sam_Lee_ Not for a prof. musician.
@@anonymusum ridiculous response. And rude.
Che atmosfera creava!!!!!!!!!! Sempre ultraterrena.
It's a real pleasure to watch Carlos Kleiber conduct this. It's not just that he obviously loves the music (as you can tell from his face, e.g., 8:36); he actually sees more in it than I ever did. I always thought this whole opera was basically a pile of corny nonsense, but Kleiber makes the overture a joy to hear. The rests alone are dramatic.
Sad that the horns marred it at 1:10, 1:19, etc.
The only issue is 1:19 the rest was performed beautifully.
Great performance of this great piece of music! This is in my opinion one of the last really romantic performances. Wonderful and thanks for posting!
Carlos Kleiber. The best conductor of all times.
10 minutes out of time and space.
Those old and quite obtuse players (see the rehearsal) playing like young and vigorous teenagers just because of a beautiful visionary conducting them.
@berto41 I agree he is one of the greats. One of the giants "maestro" of all time.
Nobody does it better
Bien !
The first time, when he was only a kid, that Wagner listened to this piece, was then when he decided that one day he would like to be a composer...and so,we all know the end of it...Wagner is one of the greatest composers, ever.
Merci Stupeflip
