- In response to a recent question from a viewer that wanted to add gaps between the segments of their doughnut chart, in this movie you'll learn how to complete a more complex clipping mask that uses compound shapes to remain editable.
Well it only took me three times to hold down the Alt key while selecting Minus Front from Pathfinder. This is an awesome walk-through. Thank you!

Charts are still such a powerful part of Illustrator, but not the easiest of things to learn, perhaps. This was extremely helpful!! If you want to click+shift+drag to make it proportionally larger, I noticed that it cuts off/the colors get messed up again-is that just the cost of doing business, or is there something I'm doing wrong?
Sorry for the huge delay in reply-I've had to be off for a few weeks. If you want to resize you must use the Scale tool to do that when working with graphs in a clipping mask.

Do you know if it is possible to create a half pie chart?
Like a rainbow style. It is possible in Excel.
Is there any way of bringing this to InDesign? When I try to copy paste it in my indesign file the segments dissappear and it looks like normal pie chart...
Hey there. You perhaps shouldn't use copy/paste from ai to indesign for anything but the smallest of graphics-it's not the best way-and as you've discovered, some things don't work (because InDesign can't create clipping masks). Instead, save the Illustrator file (as an .ai file) and use the Place command in InDesign (under the File menu) which then keeps a live link to your .ai file so if you make any changes…
