      I am English and I don’t know if that even really mattered anyway.
      Anyway getting to the point. These knifes are made absolutely terrible they do not keep them moist continuously I even saw smoke from it at whilst lathe machine milling. Also they do not fold the steel, they just use old used springs and bend/stretch them into shape. Then mill them.
      Wow that is terrible 🤣🤣🤣🤣

      @@boomerhgt Actually a lot of militaries around the world ceased use after they were banned in the Geneva convention. The reason for their banning was actually the incredible effectiveness of the weapon. • @marcuss95
      @marcuss95 3 года назад +3

      @@papyrus2998 That is a modern myth, old bayonets were tiangular because of the stiffness, it makes it better for thrusting. The triangular wound is not harder to treat than a regular knife wound. There are accounts from doctors about this from the civil war era in the USA. There exist a couple of videos here on youtube debunking this myth.

      It was The Hague conventions of 1899 and 1907 that defined the rules of modern war. The Geneva convention specifically addressed combatants and the treatment of prisoners of war and civilians.

    • @MrJento
      @MrJento 2 года назад +2

      @@marcuss95
      Incorrect for the wrong reasons. The Hague convention, not the later Geneva convention, set the rules for modern war in 1899 and again in 1907. Specifically banned were “dum-dum” bullets, as expanding bullets were called at that time, explosive bullets under 13mm and other weapons “intended to inflict overly painful and grievous wounds”. No specific mention was made of bayonets, but the intent was to ban the cruciform and triangular bayonet common in the 19th century in favor of a single edged bayonet, without being specific. Wounds from such weapons were very hard to treat in that time and caused slow and painful death by infection.
      Virtually all nations complied except for France who retained the cruciform bayonet on older rifles. By 1914 war was on. Germany had a “pioneer bayonet” issued to about 20-30% of its troops that had a blade on one side and a saw on the back. Intended to cut limbs, but see by those who might be stuck with it as cruel and unusual. The Germans saw the French cruciform and the American trench shotgun firing nine pellets of buckshot in a similar light.
      Protests were formally filed with the international court. Since The Hague had been overrun by Germany the international court was moved to Geneva. Progress was slow, as such things are. Germany announced that any American soldier captured with a shotgun would be shot. The British and American troops tended to use the saw backed german bayonet on its owner when captured. All this in a war where poision gas and everything else was on the table. Nevertheless military order must prevail. America, England and Germany were in direct negotiations to restrict the shotgun, the sawbacked bayonet and a few other odd weapons. Final agreement was near when the war ended for all effect in November 1918. While never formalized the agreement was put into effect as far as the bayonet was concerned. The shotgun was just too good to put up. The Germans ditched the saw back bayonet, the Americans the bolo and trowel bayonets, the English modified the cruciform bayonet on the proto type No4 Lee-Enfield to a spike. The French, not a party to the agreement gave up the old cruciform bayonet as well, just to get along.
      So. Your right. It’s not in the Geneva convention or any international law. It’s simply an artefact of a “gentleman’s” agreement forged in a time of war but never ratified as a formal rule. Such were the good old days.

      So like, you have unscrew the knife everytime you want to use it? And screw it back in when you're done with it? Forgive the assumption as to what your meaning is, but that is an incredible design flaw, not to mention the fact that it's a combat knife (one that's so deadly and cruel in fact, that all militaries under the Geneva convention can't even use it). Which I add, are specifically designed for emergency CQE's and consequently accessibility and efficiency.

      @@primadeluxe4910 Lighten the blade and help it's flexibility as I heard. Helping air and blood get out of the body is a myth and not what the fuller is designed for.

      a fuller was to use *less steel* in a knife's construction. it has the benefit of serving to strengthen a knife, as well as preventing gas locking when stabbing, but the primary reason for its existence was to waste less expensive and hard-to-produce steel

      Completely false . From start to finish everything you said is 100% false.
      A fuller is made to lighten a blade by removing material in a way that has the less impact on structural integrity.

      Many blades are also shaped in a triangle, they are stiffer and were commonly used against armoured opponents

    I wish I could afford one of those lathes. I love how the Blacksmith does so much by hand.

      the only forging process he did was to straighten out the spring and twist the blade. the rest of this video is machine work. he didnt even forge in the taper at the tip of the blade.
      the blacksmith does so much more than relying on machines to do the work for them. A BLADESMITH is more akin to what you're talking about

    Amazing work, that must have taken some amazing knowledge of what tool can do what job and a lot of expertise to figure out just HOW to make such a complex shape using common machine tools! Also, don't literally sell yourself short, that is longer than a mere knife, you have made the world's first Jagdcommando shortsword!

    Great work. It's amazing that you crafted such a clean piece from what could've been seen as scrap metal. You ever do custom work, feel free to let me know.
