  • Impeached Judge John Hlophe has been nominated by the MK party to serve on the Judicial Service Committee. Hlophe was impeached four months ago after being found guilty of gross misconduct. The former judge now serves as the MK party’s leader in Parliament.

    The reasons we usually find ourselves in these situations, is bcos we tend to create laws to punish those we dont like politically without looking at the legal consequences

    I'm very concerned about the attack on MK party by the media and racist members of our society. These double standards and hypocrisy is not needed in our country. MK party was voted by millions of South Africans. Not an MK member but I'm very concerned about these double standards.

    That’s very interesting. If a layman with no legal credentials like Julius Malema can hold a position in the JSC, it would be rather weird barring a known academic with credentials of being in the JSC. This is actually making us weary of the agenda of those who don’t want to give MKP the respect it deserves. If perception had such power, we would have a new president and a new Chief justice by now.

    Does Chris knows that president Ramaphosa has an impeachable case, according to the panel led by Chief Justice Ncgobo, and that case is stagnant, but Ramaphosa has been reelected, and he is continuing with his presidential duties, but Chris's public perception doesn't matter there! Right now we should be asking ourselves how far the HAWKS have gone, it's been 2 years no!

    Dr Hlophe is a Member of Parliament, there is no law on which assignment can serve.
    Nobody must interfere with Parliament and it's Committees.
    Impeachment is for serving as a judge - not as an MP.

      Manipulating the law is not a crime. Our laws are being manipulated day in day out to serve a certain group’s agenda and no one has a problem with it other than the people being subjugated.
      An actual criminal is a minister and you have no problem with that, why?

      All departments have to be rebuild after the Zuma era. I don't think Mandela was short sighted when he started the Scorpions.

    This is why it’s so important to look at law on both sides of the argument so one can have a holistic view and then themselves make an informed decision.
    How do you start of from saying “yes” to then agreeing that there’s no express provision to exclude an impeached judge.
    We have to debunk and problematise what one thinks is public opinion and actually let them own it and say “we don’t want you there”.
