    Finally managed to find a video series that I can relate to - annoyingly this wasn't on RUclips's search very clearly (I've searched 996 Turbo a bunch of times, and managed to find this through Related Videos instead) - not sure if you can play with the Tags for that?
    I've had my 996T for 3.5 years and I love it.. Keep up the great content please!

      Sorry to tell you Jason but if you saw my recent videos, I just sold my 996tt on Bring a Trailer. But happy to help advise you on your 996tt and any questions you may have. Hoping to keep the channel going with some car stuff, hope you stick around!

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад +2

      And I've added so many tags to all of my videos, surprised it was so difficult to find. But with only ~300 subscribers, RUclips isn't really looking to promote my channel just yet. Hoping I can continue to grow and get the algorithm to notice me more!

      will do my son has the 996TT and I just picked up a 997.1TT, He had some rodent damage on his car so the engine is coming out, Planning on the pinned coolant lines and check on the clutch. Like you thoughts on replacing all the vacuum lines while the engine is out.

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад +1

      100%, replace all the vacuum lines with quality silicone lines and use zip ties at the connections to avoid boost leaks. That's awesome you both have turbos! I'd love to upgrade to a 997 down the road, but I'm pretty far into this build. Maybe pickup a 997tt that's more street focused, stop at tune and exhaust, assuming I can actually stop haha.

      There's a guy on Rennlist "T2" with almost 600,000 miles on his 996TT insane.!!
      The 997 is a much better day to day car, quieter and rides better with the PASM. Just did a steering wheel swap from a MACAN/991 also replaced the PCM with an Alpine unit.
      480HP already scares me but perhaps after a few more months will get the itch for more HP:).

    The one thing with pinning the coolant lines is that it doesn't remove the root cause of the failure.. which is why I had mine welded. I had a professional welder do the job as opposed to having a Porsche shop do it though. I was very impressed with the end result.

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад

      +Josh M correct. When I build the engine, I will have them welded. I just didn't want to tear the engine down that far while I was focusing on the rest of the upgrades. More of a peace of mind thing while I was in there. But I'm glad I did it! Thanks for watching!

    Great video and lovely motor. I have a 996tt tip S in seal grey, visually it looks almost identical to yours. Factory aero which is great but I hate the look of the aero front lip so changed for the standard turbo, kept the wing and skirts. Owned for just over 2 years and always considered playing with the engine but never had the balls to do it so made the call to stick completely oem which works for me. Tip S would put many people off but so far I’ve done 3 cross Europe runs in it and 16k miles and for those big mile runs it’s great. Will watch your progress with interest, thanks for sharing.

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching! You should consider doing at least a tune and exhaust. And don't be afraid, these cars are way over engineered and respond well to minor bolt-ons. Those two modifications completely change the car for the better and are easily reversible. Glad to hear you're enjoying your car! Thanks again for the support!

    Wait, WHY DID YOU SELL THIS CAR AGAIN??? You built it as if you were going to keep it for a lifetime lol. That's a dream build! I'm sure you're missing it. But my real question is, will your next car be as good or will you live in constant regret?

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  4 года назад

      Ugh, believe me it's a constant regret. I do often think about what the next car will be, so many options out there but honestly I'd love to just buy this back because as you said, I built it to own it forever. On my dark days, I pretty much admit that I'll never own something this cool again. When I'm thinking positive, well the options are overwhelming. I've often thought about making a video discussing the 10 or so cars I'm thinking about to replace this, pros/cons of each, but it's difficult to discuss. But I'm hopeful! As always, I appreciate you watching and thanks for the comment!

      @@TheSoundofSpeed love the handling and kick butt power ... it's certainly enough power to get in trouble doing 100-130mph on highway ramps and such, LOL ... I do a lot of high end kart racing, stuff faster than shifter karts ... for me, it's hard enough to drive this car slow as it is, adding more hp would probably land me in jail. When I did the suspension work, I lowered the front and rear a lot, added new drop links and sway bars too .. also plopped on some Nitto NT01 245 & 305 tires (on stock 18" rims) .. the extra width on front reduces understeer, handles really good .. and tire circumferences are within Porsche 996TT spec requirements. Next upgrade I'm looking at is a decent track driving seat (need side support, and a position lower in car) .. also working on a iPad or Android 9 or 10" display mount for collecting track data and fun stuff.

    I'm confused, you said it makes 600 whp at the 8:10 mark. Then 731 whp at the 11:41 mark. SRM tune vs Turtletuned?

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад

      600 whp on pump gas (low boost - 91 octane)
      731 whp on E85 (high boost - 77% ethanol 100+ octane)

    You really expect the 993TT rods to last at 700 WTQ?

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  6 лет назад

      The 705 awtq number is most likely elevated since the dyno didn't have a good rpm pickup. I'd expect it to be around 600-650 wheel torque in reality, which is all added in late in the rev range.

    FYI the reason the front aerokit spoiler is not on it is that I can tell that the whole front bumper has been replaced and repainted. Silver is hard to match and you can tell it's not the OEM paint. Probably in a front end crash of some sort. I have an aerokit on mine too and that front bumper is a stock turbo bumper, not an OEM aerokit bumper. Not criticising just pointing it out.

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад +1

      +Charlie the aerokit does nothing to the bumper itself, just changes the front lip. You can bolt on an aerokit lip, stock turbo lip or even a 40th anniversary lip all on the same bumper. Also, theres only one part number from Porsche other than the GT2. Or if you can explain the differences I'd love to hear them, because this is the first I've ever heard of this.
      Nothing on the carfax about an accident, so I would tend to disagree with your theory. These cars aren't something where you take it to a back alley bodyshop and try to keep it off the books.

    • @rallynavigator4940
      @rallynavigator4940 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheSoundofSpeed I agree with what you said. The reason I know is that the dealership backed another car into the front of my car and told me about it after they had replaced and repainted the front bumper. No accident report or car fax resulted. My car is black so it was easy to match the paint, silver is hard to match. If the paint color is off its just something to look at. FYI the front spoiler in the aerokit is very important to the downforce on the front, the wing and front spoiler are critical to even downforce over 150 mph. The GT2 has the airflow vents over the hood to provide the equalized downforce to the larger wing. So it doesn't need the aerokit front spoiler design. Even the two vents on the front of the aerokit spoiler are important to smooth airflow under the car. It's really interesting the engineering behind the designs. The GT2 setup is more stable at speed than the aerokit setup, which is more stable than the stock setup. However, the aerokit without the front spoiler is not as stable as the stock setup if you don't have the front spoiler, more back downforce than front.

    • @TheSoundofSpeed
      @TheSoundofSpeed  5 лет назад

      @@rallynavigator4940 wow, I would be so pissed at that dealer. That's messed up.
      And yeah, I will be switching back to the aero style front lip to balance things back out. I can definitely feel that it's lighter in the front when I'm drag racing at 140mph.

    • @rallynavigator4940
      @rallynavigator4940 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheSoundofSpeed Yes I was pissed, but they did a good job and my old one had some stone chips and the new one was perfect and they even 3M wrapped it for me so I didn't cause trouble. Yes, you will notice some floating at that speed without the spoiler, that OEM aerokit wing is an engineering masterpiece. I am in the process of putting the entire OEM GT2 wing and front end on my car and going to store the OEM areokit package. It will be worth a fortune someday. What also helps is putting a slight rake on your suspension when you get the Bilsteins, this helped too. Lowering the suspension, Bilsteins, and a rake (I don't know what degree they did) was perfect for me. This setup was solid as a rock up to 165 mph, I have not gone faster than that and probably never will.

      @@rallynavigator4940 very jealous! I would love to get a factory GT2 setup, but it's so costly! And the take makes these cars look soooooo good from the profile. Can't wait to get suspension/wheels and make this car more of the total package.
