did anybody really ever drive it at 60mph? i'm skeptical...
i've got one of it's progeny, the TD. i'll take it up to 55mph on occasion but the RPMs tell me it can stand no more: that's it. the car is happy at 40-45. one can throw a taller differential on it and attain higher speeds at lower rpms, but 50-55 horsepower can only do so much and will struggle with anything beyond on moderate incline if so modified.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all
the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per
minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned
too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and
gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They
even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke
    crime. :-(((

Good to see the earlier MG roadsters mentioned, the TC-TF were stylish little cars.

I've seen very few twin cam MGAs but a lot of pushrod MGAs. Afla Guiletta twin cams sold a lot more, at least where I lived in California.

currently waiting for the "Jaguar is Indian, not British" comments.

I think today’s generation of smart-asses are so ignorant about anything related to Jaguar, they are deprived of the opportunity to make snide comments.

No personal experience, unfortunately, but everything I've read indicates that the Aston Martin DB4 was nothing like as fast as an E-Type. Interesting to see a driver double de-clutching in the E-Type - these days very few people have that skill or even know about it.

The E-Type was nothing as fast as today’s Mazda Miata, either around corners or in a straight line. Except for top speed, which is about the same. I know: I’ve owned both. And the performance specs bear me out. When downshifting, I heel-and-toe the Miata’s superb, close-ratio 6-speed - not because I need to, but because it’s fun.

@@johntechwriter Performance comparison: such is progress.
Heel and toe - the enjoyment of driving a fine car - more power to you (no pun originally intended).

I love double clutching. I have an old jeep (1953) and trucks (1958)but the fun is still the same. That left hand pedal and three speed column shift ensures theft deterrence these days, plus no power steering and brakes means you drive within your limits and don't try anything stupid, also ensuring a longer life!😃

Funny you should say that, obviously from ignorance. I remember to this day racing an E-Type at night in my MGB (which I admit had a few engine mods) on the road from Harrogate town to join the M1, along a twisty country 2-lane. The E could not get away and believe me he was trying!
