Derek! I watch Ted Lasso to feel happy, not to be reminded of one of the most beautiful yet heartbreaking episodes of Doctor Who ever 😅 Fair reference though; I also don’t think I can ever not think of that DW ep when he’s mentioned. I think this ep lands on a lot of people’s list of favorite episodes. It’s so great to see all the characters be free, have fun, and have some needed character growth. It was nice to see the pay off of Trent learning about Colin, and have Colin know he has a kindred spirit & isn’t alone in his experiences. I too love Rebecca’s storyline & the wonderful chemistry she had with that guy. It was just what she needed, in a season when she’s maybe felt very alone at points (ie. not having an available friend to speak to about her infertility when she needed it at the time). She also found a kindred spirit when I think she needed it most. I love his line “I realized this thing didn’t happen to me, it happened for me” because I don’t think Rebecca had realized the same for herself. Interesting in hindsight to know that Ted wasn’t actually high but still had some sort of hallucination/daydream? 😂 And fun fact - I just realized as I was rewatching season 1 that Ted had a weird reaction to the BBQ sauce the waitress chose b/c it’s the same brand his family sent to him in his care package from 1x02. Another sign of home. Great reaction as always!
One of my favorite episodes of tv of all time. Edit: I love the Chet Baker reference in this episode as he’s one of my favorite musicians, and it just makes the episode that much better. I love Amsterdam as well.
I'm always awestruck whenever I revisit this episode that they managed to juggle six separate plotlines without any of them feeling underdeveloped or redundant. Though of course the highlight for me will always be Colin's speech that has never failed to make me cry, and I always just want to reach through the screen and give him a hug.
The Roy/Jamie relationship quickly developed into my favorite thing about the series.
