In japanese Marth's name is Marasu. Translated into english it would be "Mars" so the anime got it right. However when he was put in Melee his name was translated to Marth instead for unknown reasons. Ever since then they kept it. I personally feel Mars fits his character better since it's suppose to represent the god of war. :P
I just made a comment about this. Dubbing was still in its infancy back in the 90's. The "th" sound does not exist in Japanese and is often replaced with ス (su) to keep it relatively close. So, in reality, マルス (marusu) can either mean Mars or Marth. Based on my understanding, especially being semi-fluent in Japanese and English my native tongue, it was localized to Marth for said reason above. Languages are not set in stone; they are malleable, taking shape over long periods of time. As our understanding of language grows, so does pronunciations and vocabulary.
For those of you wondering: English dubbing of Japanese anime was still in its infancy during the 90's, but greatly increased as technology became better. It's why many of the pronunciations are off. マルス , or "Marusu" is how it is said in Japanese. Anyone who speaks English as a native tongue would obviously dub it to "Mars." Instead, the "th" sound is meant to be there. Since the "th" sounds doesn't exist in Japanese pronunciation, the character ス (su) is added. The understanding of Japanese to English and vice-versa was still relatively new and hadn't been widely practiced. This is why so many names sound "off." Note: Caeda's name is pronounced exactly like the Japanese pronunciation in the anime. シーダ (shiida, pronounced "SHE-duh"), just like it is here. The English pronunciation has since been updated to "SEE-duh."
Wow this anime is great!!!!! its not exactly like the game but is awesomely gooooodd! and anyone who had played Shadow Dragon can tel who the characters are: Sheeda is Caeda, Oguma is Ogma and his gang is here to, the red armored cavalier is Cain, the cavalier with green hair is Abel, the acher kid is Gordin, and the big Armored guy is Drugh
This Fire Emblem anime is based on Mystery of the Emblem, a re-telling of Shadow Dragon. Ike is in the games Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, while Lyn is in Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (Rekka No Ken)
My review of this OVA: Throwing so much exposition at the viewers was not their best move, but then again, there's a large and complex story trying to fit into this short animation series, so I can't really mark them down for it. What I can mark them down for, however, is the voice acting. You could tell that the voice actors didn't take this seriously, so it was hard for myself to take it seriously. Along with poor line reads from minor characters, we got bad voices in general from characters like Mars and Shiida, the latter of which was annoying as hell. Shiida was more of a token damsel than a character, which makes me glad I accidentally got her killed in my first Shadow Dragon runthrough. But this anime had its saving graces. The action was quick-paced very fun to watch. Even some of the side characters had their charming moments, like Cain and Abel cleaning after each other, Gordin's goofiness, and Ogma (Ogooma?) and Barst just being plain awesome. That I enjoyed the most. But most importantly, it kept the same integrity as the Fire Emblem video games, so it was an overall success in terms of its purpose. 6.5/10
7:33 Barts is so cool he went from Final Fantasy to Fire Emblem... *to the makers of the credits* Its Barst you dumbasses, read the game...or something like that...
@soukupb how something looks doesn't change whether or not it is something (with the exclusion of visual art), it's difficult to say with direct classification what is an anime and what a cartoon is, but you can usually tell by the eyes, the reason this looks different from full metal alchemist is because it's older, however this specificcally is an anime, the hair overlapping the eyes and the curve of the eyes are a dead giveaway
For those wondering, no, this isn't a fan translation, this is actually a thing that was released. That voice acting is terrible, as is the translations of the names...Mars? Seriously?
Those guys were cheering because now they weren't spending an entire voyage with just sausages. Coincidentally, I'm sure sausages are all Sheeda ate for breakfast for the rest of the trip >_
...Goodness. Apparently the name change is what grants our lovely princess here her super blue-haired goddess of death powers that she possesses in Shadow Dragon. Because the girl I've leveled in that game would just have speared the guy through the belly, none of that damsel-in-distress nonsense.
I like the traditional cliche plot of this anime. So romantic and adorable!
1:30 axe wielders are cursed to a life of low accuracy
+Patrick except ross
Except Barst!
But Marth had no sword lol
marth has that god-like luck growth and decent speed growth. also weapon advantage was not a mechanic prior to FE 4.
I HATE THESE HORSES ON THESE BOATS
lmao

Nope Mars sound bad, Marth FTW
@@MegaFirefox34 only sounds weird because everyone is used to hearing Marth, but Mars was the intended name

3:07 get weapon triangled
That broad sword throw is more scary than a fighter swinging their axe around.
Bro who poster this vid, you are a friggin hero for posting.
"Don't move."
I'm Batman.
1:41 - Laws of Fire Emblem physics: Swords beat axes.

Falcon Punch!
........
It's foreshadowing the future for Marth!

I love how they use music from the game in this.
5:52
Sheeda: Marth! Marth!
Marth: Ohmaigawd, wtf do you want!?
Yoshi Guikido Play: Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. it's a remake of marths game for the ds in america.
yeah,i've reached the part where sheeda comes
"And so it began."
-Narrator Guy
Sheeda (blue hair girl) already said it, its Swordmaster Oguma (Ogma in US remake). ;-)
What’s worst for Marth getting surprised punched by a bandit or thrown off into a volcanic cliff by Kazuya Mishima.
Awesome to see someone comment on here recently. I keep coming back to watch! Lol
I like him too!!! I know he is the best axe wielder out there so reclassed him into a pirate in my FE12 Playthrough!!!
5:35 Me playing Celica's route of Echoes
I just love how these men try to reach their hands for her at the end XD
Heh. Simps.
@@emadon6510 I just can imagine all the sausages she will eat EVERYDAY
@@MapleHero120 I said simps. Not perverts.
honestly the guy who voiced abel should also have voiced stahl in awakening.if it worked for lon qu it will work for him
not bad. it's very accurate to the original game, this makes me wanna play the NES game again.
Those soldiers on the boat are very happy to see Shiida. Shiida better turn around or else the enemies is not only thing she need to worry.
"I hate boats!" "I hate these horses!"
Oh random background talking XD
mksonmor: Since when was his name Mars?
Since before the game was made.
0:35
Originally he said "Aren't you worried what's gonna happen to her?"
The dub was a lot darker, woah.
Imagine if Marth got speared on that sword Sheeda threw

hey, I just noticed that. He was a pretty badass in his last movie as an actor XD
WHO CARES IF IT'S CLICHE? ITS FIRE EMBLEM, THE GREATEST FRANCHISE EVER! :D
Fire emblem shadow dragon is a beast game and show
the ost is so good
Does anyone else besides me hear the Fire emblem mystery of the emblem strike theme in the beginning when Marth fights that Brigand?
Yes, and the others are: Abel, Cain, Jagen, Gordin, Draug/Doga, Oguma, Barst, Bord, Cord, Sheeda, Cornelius, Elice, King Talys, Gazak, and Gharnef.
5:58, the Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon title screen music.
@1:42 wahahahaha weapon triangle my ass! it's game over now boy!
I wonder who did the narration in the English dub.... He has an awesome voice.
ahhh, well thank you for the clarification :)
1:59
Marth did not expect this to happen...
@Dreamer51154 Ike is the star of a different Fire Emblem game. This OVA is based on the first Fire Emblem Game, who's star is Mars/Marth.
1 girl many doods on a ship, I see where this is going :O
Alas Juro Don't worry, she flirts with just about every dude in the entire game.
anyone else just love Bord and Cord's laugh track?
that had to be the funniest death scene ive ever seen XD
5:00 looks like he needs a hug ^_^
I'm really glad that they made an anime for this!!! It's WAAAAAAAYYY!!! better than what they got for Zelda!!! Stupid 80's series!!!!!
Those Armpits might be a runner up for best armpits. Of course Reimu's is the best.
@Yoshi1x8 There is a DS remake called Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon that was released in the US
Too bad they didn't made a whole series out of this. It didn't seem that bad. I'd have watched it
Hold on is it Prince Marth or Prince Mars cuz it sounds like Prince Mars and weres Ike,and Lyn
Mars: Unhand her, you brigand!
Sheda: My hero!
(Really, now? This is SO cliched...)
Well mounted units can only use lances on their mounts, they have to dismount to use swords.
Sheena used Bite! The pirate flinched! Marth (Mars) used tackle! Critical Hit!
XD
Haha the men in the end were happy for one thing :P
Chedea now eats hay
1:07, just hangin' around.
7:33 Barts is so cool he went from Final Fantasy to Fire Emblem...
*to the makers of the credits* Its Barst you dumbasses, read the game...or something like that...
wow so many deathes in episode 1 :O
@bowieluver1 Deborah Magnaghi voices that character, who is listed in the credits.
fuck man, i have this on VHS when it first released in the US. i really need to get a copy to dvd. lol
Marth has a command grab
I'm mad that they didn't play Together we Ride at 2:30. It's too perfect an opportunity to let slip by like that.
what are marth saying on that Movie to that bandit

"ughh I hate these boats."
"I hate boats" "I hate these horses on these boats" LOL XD
That poor pirate forgot about weapon triangle....
I want to point out that the same Voice actor as Marth(or Mars as addressed in the anime,) also voices Shinji
Background guy " man I hate boats I hate boats . I hate horses , I hate horses on these boats "
Me: O.o
Wonder if he meets Bantu tha Manakete. Or Ban Ban as the queen of the dragon-kin likes to call him. And Marth mar mar.
I smell great potential for RUclips Poops...
i want all fire emblem saga like a anime
For those wondering, no, this isn't a fan translation, this is actually a thing that was released. That voice acting is terrible, as is the translations of the names...Mars? Seriously?
They used Japanese names for this. Aritia, Shiida, and some others are from Japan. Voice acting was really terrible though.
Yeah...
It's definitely not as bad as it could have been. Still quite hilarious.
The voice acting is actually really good for its time.
which is sad. also sad this didn't get continued past the second episode.
Its most likely that the next Fire Emblem movie is gonna be similar to the cutscenes from FE Awakening.
I never really complain about English Dubs but man, @ 2:36 "Ogooma"??? -_- But so far I am liking this OVA
i would have prefered the cheeziness was lessened and dark elements more emphasized. Geez better dub.
i bet the original japanese included the gore but sigh america
+Gonedridge Have you even watched the original japanese version?
no and i shouldnt of had said shit in the first place before that. but thats still a thing in anime culture
what happned to malladeus or however it's spelled, he was Marth's or Mars' tactition
This anime is mainly based on Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem
I started to laugh when sheeda came cuz like what if a Archer just shot her.
Mars is a literal translation of his name, Marth is basically an English version. It's not an error or pronunciation mistake.
Just wondering is this classified as anime? It looks different than what I usually watch like Full Metal Alchemist.
2:30 DON'T MOVE, I feel as if that should be the voice for Jaffar if they make an Elibe Anime...
Those guys were cheering because now they weren't spending an entire voyage with just sausages.
Coincidentally, I'm sure sausages are all Sheeda ate for breakfast for the rest of the trip >_
Shouldn't "Together We Ride" be playing @5:58?
what channel is this?! i wonder if they got all ssbb shows there....
Ogma-I'm batman
OGOMA! Last I heard it was pronounced Ogma...>_>
You'd think that instead of tossing the sword to Marth, she could have just ran it through the Garudian's (spelling?) back.
is it me or is sheeda's hair color changes from black to light blue?
@turbine219
Glad you like it.... ^_^
wait this is just a dub!? or the real thing!? and how old is this
...Goodness. Apparently the name change is what grants our lovely princess here her super blue-haired goddess of death powers that she possesses in Shadow Dragon. Because the girl I've leveled in that game would just have speared the guy through the belly, none of that damsel-in-distress nonsense.

0:23 Wait. Swords beat Axes. Time to pray for a critical hit
2:50 BARST!!!!!!!!
And Shiida doesn't even help and she has a freaking Lance.
Definately a good idea to throw a sword at the MAIN CHARACTER!!
Fire Emblem RULEZ !!!!!
Since when did Shinji become the prince of Aritia?
