Nice. Im from Woodford. Born in 77. I remember when all those trees on the bank were saplings.

All of the brick terraced houses and shops on the west of the village were built for the railway. By stark contrast, the east side of the village is mainly traditional stone cottages. There is a small gap in the terraced houses on the left of that street filled in with modern houses due to a severe fire which destroyed one or two houses.

That station entrance under the bridge is exactly the same idea as the one in Finmere. They have HS2 going over it hence it's being knocked down to allow a wider road under it. I drove under it today to have a look! Hence finding your videos today. Thanks for posting.

Fascinating and lovely walk, I'm off to Buckingham on holiday in August so will be calling in at the GCR Station at Quainton Road and may well call in here on the way home, the Station House was gorgeous.

What an impressive sight those bridges are and just a small part of what was originally there. Thanks for sharing.

Shed code for Woodford Halse was 2F....most of the engines kept there were Midland region ones...lot of WD austerity...they were 280's...drivers called them Doodlebugs....Bob...on Bev's tablet....Paignton....😀..

It was a magnificent route throughout, but beeching identified it as a duplicated route, to the midland mainline, so it had to go by the thinking of that time.
Folly really, because it was a high speed north to south purpose built route, which could have been put to greater potential by todays standards.

I watch your videos with a copy of "The Great Central Then and Now" by Mac Hawkins. It shows track plans from the 1900s and these are a great combination.

I can’t believe the scale of destruction that took place on that site. I sometimes try and compare it to other stations I visit today which are junctions, have large depots, and a huge amount of sidings and I think “Imagine if this was now mostly baron land and there was practically no evidence of a railway ever being here left.. that’s what happened to Woodford Halse”

If it's total destruction you're after, try finding Chesterfield GCR

When you look at Apple maps, you can still see the route and junctions to the south of the station. It seems amazing and ridiculous that such an asset was just dismantled.

Imagine the money it could pull in, if the rebuilt it as a living musem and you could ride in style in an old steam engine.
    It's such a missed opertunity.
After thousands of years our country, in the span of a few decades, our people and identity are disapearing fast, it would be nice to preserve something of who we are.
