Get your coins slabbed! NGC, PCGS or ANACS. Daniel, you should add the 32-D and 32-S Washington Quarters to your list. Lots of these floating around with the added mint mark.
I been watching your RUclips videos and I have learned so much from you sir thank you so much for your honesty information on coins I'm a newbie in the coin world you have opened my eyes of a new hobby of interest your a good man Thank you for your honesty and hard work on positive video you have posted my GOD BLESS YOU 🙌
I have an 1885 S trade dollar. I pretty much knew it was counterfeit as it only cost me $5. I bought it in Asia. Besides the date/mintmark, it had that "look."
It should be pointed out that there have been fake graded certified coins in PCGS, NCG and other grading company holders. You can never be "too careful".
Yesterday I went to an auction and inspected a large tray of coins. Almost all were counterfeit. Trade dollars, Indochina French coins, Peace dollars, Chinese trade dollars, early 19th century US half dollars, and Mexican 8 Reales. All looked like plated brass and failed tests on my Sigma. The amazing part was all these bad coins were in various holders, some old looking, with descriptions and price tags of between $39 and $69. It looks like someone was badly ripped off in the past and was now dumping these coins at auction. What responsibility does the auction house have to remove counterfeits? None. They don't sell them as genuine silver and take the attitude of 'buyer beware' with no guarantees. Coins like these will continue to circulate in ever greater numbers and keep causing damage to the hobby, year after year.
A reputable auction company such as Heritage, Stack's-Bowers, etc. will back up what they sell. The only problem with these companies is that they only don't want to bother with low priced items--even $1,000 items are almost considered 'small potatoes' to them. But, they WILL make good on their merchandise and refund your money if in the future it's found that the item is not genuine.
I'm glad ya Showed my 1916Ds. I Lovem. The Ds Points at the Leaf. There are all kinds of Whackiy Ds. I saw a fellow at a show 10 years ago who had the most Beautiful toned Early American coins. I asked him what kinda airbrush he used to Tone his Coin with. He was in Shock!!! I'm a Professional Spary Painter!!!
One of the most counterfeited coins I'm aware of was British gold sovereign and half sovereign that were good gold and usually over weight slightly. Very easily spotted by the reeding being too sharp. But only worth melt anyway. There are also Mexican coins that are only worth bullion value that you're more likely to find as counterfeit then as genuine.
Thank you for making this video! I almost bought a 1788 Massachusetts coin for 600 until I did more research on it and found out it was a replica because of the extremely small R on the coin which stood for replica. Same with roman coins those get faked a lot so I'm having an issue with wanting to add some roman coins that are legit
I have seen alot of U.S. gold coins that are counterfeit. Almost all of them were in jewelry. Jewelry pieces make up the majority of counterfeit gold coins.
If they're members of the ANA ( or PNG ) or care about their BBB rating or their reputation they should. My father was a coin dealer that occasionally got fooled, but he never knowingly sold a coin on after he realized it was altered. I still have a 1932 "S" quarter from when he died that the S looks soldered.
Please say something about Buffalo nickels also. I've seen some pretty scary ones of almost every date. (Fortunately, they still haven't got the 1937 D three-legged rarity quite right -- yet!)
Got some fake spanish coins while on vacation guy sold me one heck of a story on how he got them. Purchased 12 sent off to n g c all came back fake. Lost lots of money learned a big lesson. I should have known better. I now collect
Interesting … my wife’s great grandpa collection just gave it an once over. His 1916-D mercury dime looked fantastic until I checked the mint mark it was cockeyed … Yeap he got scammed, but to be fair his Liberty gold 20 Liberty 10 and Indian 10 pieces were fine. It was bought from a local shop he bought from before the days of the internet.
I had a 1916 dime that was made in San Quentin Prison, the D was slightly over tilted. A coin shop gave me $50 for it knowing it was a fake. I actually shouldn't have sold it and instead should've sent it in to PCGS

Being new to coins this is why I have to go thru SD or apmex Hate the feeling of mybe having a stash of fake coins and already know I’m a target 🎯 😂
that should be criminal but it is do a key date like a 2.5 dollar 1911d and it's well worth the gold content because worth ten the gold content
Is it safe to purchase coins from the big coin company? Do they check for counterfeit coins before they sell them?

i see no problem criticizing ETSY. if they let garbage like this on their site, they should have their feet held to the fire.
