  • This film was transferred from 8mm source material shot in 1977 by my father Jim Stevenson. He shot the film during his lunch break. The following day he walked the same route with an audio cassette recorder. the resulting disparate sources could not be directly synchronized as the audio was substantially shorter in length. I pieced up the recording and synchronized the track to the film by adding redundant sounds to the correct lengths. The video was transferred via a GOKO 8mm prism telecine. The software platforms were Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere and Adobe Encore. The audio was edited within Sony Vegas and cleaned up/equalized using Sound Forge.

Fantastic film of an engine in its natural habitat, working as intended and running at speed. Especially love how it's obviously wiped down and polished, and looks well cared for. I wish there were more old films of engines like this operating, especially when there's recorded audio to go with it. Thanks for sharing!
