Someone streaked at the '74 or '75 Oscars. David Nivens was presenting as the man ran behind him. Niven's response was something to the effect of "that man is showing off his shortcomings" 🤣🤣🤣
You needed a laugh. Glad you liked this one. This came out when I was in highschool. And yes we had streakers. BTW- home from Colorado and painting the house. Thanks for making it fun.
50s-70s had lots of novelty songs. They have a short shelf I was a Michigan State University when this was a hit. The university had 45k students. Thousands streaked in the dorms and outside. The fad ended quickly. I wondered in this PC climate would there harassment laws now. There was peer pressure to streak but I don’t remember anyone being forced. Of course there was safety in numbers.
This song is now 50 years old........had the pleasure of catching his show LIVE for a week, at the theatre at Knott's Berry Farm in California,....it was released at the 'end' of the streaking 'craze'. In 4months after the release he sold, like 3 milllion copies of the single. He has his own studio, production company, he writes, plays most instruments......he is a producer......Great memory.
This was the first ever record I bought in '74 when I was 11. I still have it and chuckle every time I hear it. I have a fascination with comic songs and have a good collection. "Don't look, Ethel!"
I was a young teen when this was popular ... and heard my mother's stories of her streaking years later - Such a great song 😂 Things were not always easy, but we had fun anyway
The song came out in the early 70's, but the video wasn't made until the 80's. When it first came out, it was everywhere, on radio and juke boxes, along with people playing it at home for friends. We saw Ray Stevens in Branson, Missouri in 1991 and bought the VHS of his greatest hits which this video was on. During the show we half-way expected someone to start running down the aisle as part of the show.
Omg I'm a kid again. And he's funny af. 😅 He used to crack me up. But, except for The Streak, I'd totally forgotten his content. Cool to see you with a fun one. ☺️ Ps. Ray was a one-man act, in this video. So he played all the roles. 2:38 That's a very old term.
This song was written in the 70's when streaking was a major fad. Other fun Ray Stevens songs are It's Me Again Margaret, Sitting Up With The Dead, Shriners Convention, Help Me Make It Through The Night, Too Drunk To Fish, and The Camping Trip
Ray Stevens just released a new song this week called The Boom-Boom Gentlemen's Club. Btw, if you can get to Nashville before the end of the year, try to catch his live show at his own theater. It's great!
Great reaction. Ray Stevens has said himself this was one of his most successful songs. Ray Stevens has stated that he first got the idea for the song while reading a news magazine on an airplane. The magazine included a brief item about streaking, and Ray thought that it was a "great idea for a song" and started writing notes; later, he wrote some lines after returning home from his trip, but did not complete the song at that time. Some time later, Stevens says he "woke up and it was all over the news. Everywhere you turned, people were talking about streakers". Ray then rushed to complete and record the song and have it released. According to Stevens, there were already 15 other songs released about streaking by the time his was released, and there ended up being 35 to 40 such records in all. Ray had released the song less than a week before the televised 46th Academy Awards, during which Robert Opel created an uproar after he streaked across the stage behind host David Niven. Thought you'd like a little bit about the song. Another good Ray Stevens song is "Sitting up with the dead".
I was a little girl with big brothers in the 70’s so I knew this song well. 30 years later I had a little girl that didn’t love clothes. I’d yell “Ethel, you get your clothes on.” Took a while for her to learn that Ethel isn’t another word for nekked. Still cracks me up. Great song
I love I'm My Own Grandpa and a few lesser-known songs by Ray Stevens: Juanita and the Kids When The Kids Are Gone (which is kinda hard to find online :() The Camping Song and We're Having A Baby
Saeed, if you enjoyed 'The Streak', I highly recommend 'JIM STAFFORD - Cow Patti (1981)' as well and/or .Dead Skunk , Loudon Wainwright III , 1972.. Great channel, Saeed!!
OMG laugh out loud...graduation 1976..had Senior ripped his graduation gown off..we were sitting in the stands of our football field..guy got nickname Pud after...small junk LOL 😂
This was a 1970's fad. This song and David Niven's quip on the live Oscar's broadcast when a streaker ran onstage in front of the world were the only good parts of this narcissistic fad.
I would like to suggest you watch a video of his called "I'm My Own Grandpa". Watch the one with the diagrams, otherwise you will be so confused, you won't know what to think.
@@SaeedReacts. Thank you. It's in 2 parts. Ballad of the blue cyclone part 1 and ballad of the blue cyclone 2. There's a video out that combines the 2 but they leave out a lot
Dude its not so much that you pause too often its that you talk for so effen long make notes. music has a flow. ive seen you pause and talk for 4+ min. in the middle of the song. I admit i really do enjoy your videos. about Rush, i talked to Geddy Lee at a book signing and his preference is studio first live second.

Want a crazy Ray Stevens song, "Ned Nostril & his South Seas Paradise, put your Blues on ice, cheap at twice the price band (icky, icky, ucky, ucky.)"
Another humorous singer is Roger Miller. Try his "King of the Road", "Dang Me", "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd"...

Hilarious song and video 😅🤣
Thank you for the heart, it's appreciated!
Now it's time for "It's Me Again Margaret". Thank you for the reply!
Back in the 70's we had a lot of silly songs on the radio. They were always family friendly and so much fun.
This song is now 50 years old........had the pleasure of catching his show LIVE for a week, at the theatre at Knott's Berry Farm in California,....it was released at the 'end' of the streaking 'craze'. Ray Stevens is a country comedian and has been since the early 1960's.
We listened to this as kids and thought it was the most hilarious thing we ever heard! Along Came Jones was my favorite song from him as a kid.
So funny! Definitely will check out more of his music. Enjoyed all the songs i have heard so far.

1974 was the year of the streak, so it was a short-lived fad.

They didn't have hip-hop in 73. That term was unknown them. I call it crip crap. Crap is what it is
I don't agree with that statement, but to each their own i would say.
To be a pioneer of hip-hop is so degrading
The same could be said of being disrespectful
