- In this episode we will build an incredible cat wheel, a hamster wheel for cats, with a shelter and catwalk shelter for cats, which is usually named as cat jungle gym. it will be all covered with Roland prints on wood, carpet and an automatic dog and cat fountain with an arduino. This is a great DIY project so that your cat can exercise and keep healthy.
This is our new web series Roland Master Maker. I’ll document a series of DIY projects and make tutorials in the hope that can be a good source of inspiration for you own projects. In the process I’ll show you some of the amazing machines that Roland DG Mid Europe has to offer.
If you’d like to make a "DIY cat wheel for a cat jungle gym" (also known as a hamster wheel for cats) of your own, you can download the dog house plans and designs by following the link to our facebook page where you’ll find not only the blue prints, but also the graphics files, the electronics designs and the arduino code to make the automated water fountain work:
/ 1314221578920483
To make this cat jungle gym we will cut 18 mm thick OSB boards, but also 5mm plywood to make the floorboard.
All of this is done with carpet. All to enjoy the perfect cat jungle gym.
Once all the parts for the hamster wheel for cats are made I’m bringing them to the Roland headquarters to bling them up with their VersaUV series printer.
Roland Master Maker is and entertainment web series written and hosted by Custom Cez, the Italian custom guru. The partnership with Roland DG Mid Europe is allowing us to bring the series to the next level and explore unconventional ways of using the Roland technologies.

Awesome job Cez. Power all of Rome with that cat wheel 👍🏻
Hehehe, I'll sure gonna try :D thank you so much man!
Holy crap man, this work is PRO! Thats awesome, great work!
Thank you very much 😊
This is a very comprehensive and fun tutorial. What a quality product! I will definitely be making this soon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
thank you very much :)
Did you make it?
Amazing.. I want to see some cats running on, I'm sure we could power the world, hehe
hehe, yes Alessio! I wish my cat wasn't such a little $hlT, he didn't want to have anything to do with it when we were filming :)
Incrível! Se eu tivesse as ferramentas certas, poderia fazer tranquilamente. Muito bem explicado. Vcs estão de parabéns.
I am sold. Your channel rocks. Pro.
Love the catwheel, i downloaded the plans but what i miss in the plans is the thicknes of the wood.
Hi Gwendoline and thank you 😊
I used 18mm thick OBS wood boards. They are pretty inexpensive and come in 250 by 150 cm boards
Extremely well made and very cool. Only I wouldn't use wheels that light up just in case a cat was attracted to the lights and got hurt while another cat or kid was spinning it.
Good observation stian! Thenk you
I WAS LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT CAT WHEEL TO MAKE, FOUND YOU, AND THOUGHT ANY ONE NAMED ROLAND HAD TO BE GOOD, SO THANKS! ROLAND ANDREW JACKSON
I want one. Looks so cool 😎
hehe, you can download the plans on our FB page and spend a nice week end making it ;)
Thanks for sharing Cez :) it will be my project soon, hope it will turn out good on my side :)
hehe, nice! thank you and send pics once you are done ;)
Ao ler alguns comentarios quanto o seu auxiliar e verdadeiro amigo td as boas sortes e sucesso
Very cool
thank you
This looks amazing and, more importantly, completely doable for someone with basic DIY skills. I'm currently looking at the blueprints and am I correct in thinking that I only need the following pages/items for the cat wheel?
* page 2 (minus water front and water back)
* page 5 (minus roof right)
* page 6 (minus house roof, all the house horizontals and verticals, pvc tubes, water bowl and faucet)
* the two A1 pages
And if I print those two A1 pages on A1 paper, then I only need one of each because you used 3 A4 pages for them, right?
Yes you are correct 😊
This is so cool! What is the inside diameter for the completed wheel?
It's a cat exercise wheel if the cat enters the correct part but a cat mangler if it enters the bottom.
Daniel Molineux I just finished building it and modified the base completely to make it safe and turn without rubbing on the sides. siajosephine.com/CatWheel/
Hello, nice catwheel and good informations for diy. We are starting now our catwheel project. But one question: i have problems with building the base especially the radius. Is there a possibility to print the plan with all the parts for the base in 1:1 size also you have done this for the parts for the wheel? Thanks for support
Swen Filipp I don’t think he replies to posts anymore but I just built this wheel. I scaled it slightly larger. What’s your issue with the base?
What is the finished diameter of this wheel? Having trouble getting the full sized template for the boards with holes.
Awesome Cat Wheel. I want to build it myself. Where can I find the prints with this Numbers to make the molds?
Hi Eric and thank you :) here is the link to the page with the plans, if you have any problems with the downloads let me know :)

Eric, I've added 2 pages to the pdf file linked above with the full size portion of the cat wheel for printing and the detailed info about all the placement of the holes and measures. If you already downloaded the old version download it again and replace the old file :D
@@CustomCez you will have the plans
That is a QUALITY build!! Well done. Also, wonderful machines, Roland! Out of the price (and geographic) reach of many, I wonder if you have places in Canada/US where people could bring an item and graphics file for a pay-per-print fee (a Staples Office Supplies type of system)?
Thank you very much Eliza 😊
We did suggest Roland to start a program that would just that or point out places that bought the equipment. They were very receptive and I believe that they are making a page on their site with a list of places to go to.
Fantastic project and video. You had great visuals and audio, often lacking in many videos. I will be building the wheel for the fat kitty in our house. I hope she plays on it, I don't know why she suddenly got so fat.
Thank you very much 😊
Hello, Awesome video man! so clear! even with shortcuts and reasonings to why you do things. One question though, does the wheel tend to hit or scrub up on the sides at the bottom? is there a mechanism in place to prevent that friction? thanks
Thank you very much 😊
Yes it does and that is why I added the two side pieces in the inside of the base. If you want to go the extra step you could consider a few options:
1) add a layer of teflon over the inserts i mentioned above, they sell it in sheets like plexiglass but remember to account for it’s thickness when you build the bottom support.
2) you could also add some plastic padding on the side of the wheel where the teflon touches to get an even lower friction index between the wheel and the support. “Plastic to teflon” friction is way lower than “wood to teflon”
3) you might want to go all out and add another 4 skate wheels on the sides instead of the teflon but it might be overkill 😉
You could add a block somewhere underneath between the two base sides, drill two vertical holes, and drop in 2 small metal closet door rollers (with the plastic wheels attached). The wheels would be placed inside the track and positioned so they are up contacting the wheel rims, one against each rim. They would prevent the wheel from moving from side to side. The link below is for large rollers, but you can get small wheel ones that are maybe 3/4" wide.

Eliza May I want to thank you for this suggestion. The wheel did not turn nicely at all and I saw your suggestion and tried it out and my wheel is working wonderfully now. siajosephine.com/CatWheel/
I am thinking why not drills adjacent holes halfway through the thickness of the 2 rims, screw or just stick the rods in the holes. It will probably use about the same amount of wood if you use thinner rods. Then you can either lay the carpet directly, or use some filler to pad out the uneven surface first before applying the carpet.
Every option that works is a good option. I chose this way because this way i can section the outer rims and have less waste of wood.
Mitico C.C👏👏👏👏👏👏
grazie :)
Hahahahahaha! The fucking cat wouldn't even use it. Hahahahahaha!
is the wheel not too heavy? we didn't actually see a cat on it, it seems quite hard to spin, imagine 2kg cat tries it
It's hard to get the cat to do things when u want him to ;) but it worked when he went on it in his own time
I have three cats, Gabe (tiger/short hair kitty, 2 yrs), Leo (white/long hair, 7 yrs), Addy (black/short hair: 3 yrs) - each of whom i'd love to make one of these wheels (to share) for their play and exercise :)
They’ll have a blast 😊
This is awesome. I would love to build it for my cat. How do i get the blue prints to make this wheel????
nycstevenh28 you can get it on his Facebook page. I also put the pdf link at the very bottom of my cat wheel page. www.siajosephine.com/CatWheel/
Sia Josephine can I please ask how your dad secured the garage wheels as they’re not threaded? Awesome job!!
westne5 thanks! He used set screws to hold them in place.
DUDE! AWESOME! I so have to make a hamster wheel for my cats (to not use) :)
Haha, yea cats are stubborn 🤣🤣🤣
this is a great tutorial, but I can't access the plans on facebook for some reason. Are they still there and it's just facebook being facebook, or were they moved/removed?
I can't see it either
Bonjour et bravo pour cette réalisation. Ou peut-on télécharger le plan? Merci d'avance
Je viens de trouver? Merci beaucoup.
The other cats will see how buff the cat with the gym is and back off.
hahaha, he is already the neighborhood thug... now it's gonna be real trouble ;)
The blueprint is it in cm??
I would love to make this but the Facebook link to plans didn't work and I can't find you on FB anywhere :-(

Where do you download the plans?
I am having difficulty finding an efficient way to print out the template to scale effciently. - if i do 100% scale it requires 12 pages - Anyone else? Also, has anyone else made any adjustments for the metric to US?

I’m clicking on the link for the blueprints but it looks like the page is no longer available, anyway I can get the pdf for it? Please and thank you!
I built the wheel and have a link to his pdf that still works at the bottom of the page: siajosephine.com/CatWheel/
do you have any printing tips? I can only seem to print it on 12 peices of A4
@@BethBishopMusic took me a lot of paper too, I spent an hour taping the walkway together.
i cant find the prints documents :(
Won't the cats' nails get stuck in the carpet fibers? Wouldn't something like a thin yoga mat be better?
The one i used is like an office carpet, very thin to give a good grip. A yoga mat would be destroyed in a very short time.
Yes i can say that too. I got a yoga mat for doing fitness with dumbels and situps etc, but my cats just walk over it and pinch in the matt and destroy it. So after my workout i have to store it away or they destroy it in minutes (not on purpose)
same here :)
You can buy adhesive foam sheets from a craft store which cats cannot snag their nails on.
FoxySonia I finished building it yesterday and used foam sheets which turned out great. siajosephine.com/CatWheel/
How much did it cost you to make this?
The wheel you can make for about 100$ in wood (i used inexpensive osb wood) and the skate wheels. The house is probably an other 100$ in wood and 100$ in others (carpet, arduino, water bowl, etc. )
The link for Facebook to see the plans does not work. Is there anyway you could repost them?

Really enjoy it. Let's check WoodPrix plans also.
Best plans to me. Thank you Vadym!
this is ok for walking but not large enuf for running...the diamitors too small.
With the sectional design there would be little problem in making a larger wheel, you are not limited to the width of the board.
It is very big, my cat now runs on it no problem and as Peter said scaling is not a problem
kozy53215 scaling it up by 10% makes it identical to one of the brands that sells wheels. That’s what I did.
Hahahahaha! The fucking cat wouldn't even use it. Hahahahahaha!
the plans do not come
Ya lost me at blue prints
