Excellent- easy instructions and the reasoning behind slack cable and how to fix it. A good video is the camera and pretend that everyone is new to it. Never mind people rushing a step, thinking everyone knows. This was a good tutorial.
Thanks! Installing a new housing was the big issue for me, without specific tools. I hasld to improvise : I turned the bike upside down, fed the housing and the cable from the front hole to the bottom opening of the frame, there I attached the little metal cylinder that attaches to the seat post and I tied a shoelace to it. From there it was very easy to guide the unattached end of the sholace through the small hole and down the seat tube. Then just pull it and the housing follows the corect path. Then I followed this video. Hope this helps
Great video! I just bought a new dropper and having never installed one and unable to find much on the model I bought, I'm happy to have found this video. Thanks! Update: I installed my KS LEV SI dropper using your instructions. The only problem I had was with the measuring for the barrel. KS included a piece to measure the distance between the barrel and the housing, but there were no instructions, and I had it upside down which caused looseness in the cable. Once I figured out my error I was good to go. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video instructions. Very clear and complete. I wish I had found this video in my earlier search as it could have saved me all the trouble I'm currently experiencing installing a seat post dropper.
can't thank you enough good sir! was lost as to how to get the cable attached to the actuator on the post. this video saved me! much respect. fantastic video in the knick of time. thanks very much
This was an excellent video and probably the first to be thorough and explain everything as if you didn't know what you are doing. I already installed mine but had some complications but with this video I was able to fine tune it to how I wanted it. Thank you so much for the help!
Best video. Follow exactly. Still had to improvise a bit by removing my handlebar switch to be able to feed the housing a bit more more into the body when attaching the saddle post.
Thank you for the video. I like how it's real world - you encounter a problem, like all of us, and trouble shoot it - like with the electrical tape. BTW, a cheap pair of hemostats or a needle driver would probably make your life a lot easier on the nut installation part.
watching this to prepare for when my dropper gets delivered next week. You know the install would be a ton easier if these companies just had a farrel (don't know if that's spelled right) on the lever end. Then you could just install the cable with housing, install the dropper post and push it down, then pull the cable/housing to whatever length you want it, cut the housing and install the cable into the lever.
Nice video. I want to replace a Xfusion Manic 150 mm dropper tube with a 125 mm unit in my Turbo Levo MTB. Can I use the same cable or do I need to have a longer one to reach the shorter 125 mm unit? Thanks, Tom
My carbon Ibis frame has cable stops in the bolt on plastic inserts, Does this post only work with a continuous cable? Do I need to drill out my plastic stops?
So a bit of confusion. After I cut the excess cable housing after measuring the extra from my seat post the cable housing was now much further down into the frame. I did not have the extra cable housing that reaches outside the frame so I can put the ferrel cap on correctly. What did I miss? Did you allow much extra cable housing in the front of the bike at the beginning when you cut one inch above the seat post?
Glad you got it. I for got my bike came with housing pre-installed. I have been experimenting with with cables to help find the routing. I clipped the end of the derailleur cable head and run it through using a magenta or pick to help it through. Then slide the housing over it.
Where can I get that barrel that goes on the end that attaches to the post or do u know if theres a cable I can buy that has barrel on both ends of the cable?
Places like Jensen, have small dropper post hardware parts. Here is a link.www.jensonusa.com/KS-Cable-Clamp-Cable-Clamp-Lev-Lev-Dx-Lev-272?loc=usa&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlPWgBhDHARIsAH2xdNebofi4lYg04LwCivJkPQdyTBUdZRnq5DqLB-09-FKeAfv-Pv_7WvkaApj5EALw_wcB
Not sure if you're still checking comments. But any suggestions on where I can find a silver barrel like this? I've checked a few local bike shops and no one has one. Thanks in advance
I don’t understand how after cutting the housing an inch above the seat post how you easily get another 8” of housing past the seat collar again. I have to slide my lever over to get close to having that much slack. Also before cutting your housing that 7” you had that nut thing on the end of the cable, why?
Now that I know your request, I can better help you. Thanks for your input OOC. That video was done a while ago I don’t remember if the plastic was in place already. I have some videos with an internal Ibis hookah frame. Or I can make a new one.
So I have one of these and need to travel by air. The case I have requires removal of the seat and post. Is this pretty easy to remove and reinstall ? I have a Diverge expert Evo gravel with a X-Fusion Manic Dropper, 50mm travel
I do not know that one specifically but they all should disconnect at the seat post with a quick release style or maybe you can slide the housing in to the frame to remove the post just enough off the bike. Removing the lever from the bar nay help.
What do you do if you have a 2x10 thus having a shifting lever already on the left taking up the levers space. Is there room for a remote? Or would I have to convert to a 1x. I ride a Trek Fuel ex 5. Thanks.
Yes there is room for a remote. A particular grip allows you attach it to the end of the grip nearest your shifter. Like it’s integrated. It would take the place of the grip clamp.
Thank you for this very clear video. I have a question though. The lever that you pull with the screwdriver, the one where you need to fit the barrel in, is completely stuck in my dropper post. That's why I snapped my cable.
It's jammed? It may need a complete disassembly to see what went wrong. Something bent or jammed. It also may not be repairable. May need new internals.
Thanks for the video. The finicky 17mm cable trim reveals what a bad design this dropper is. The reverse design where the cable exits through the lever is so much easier since you can get it working well before cutting the cable. It’s way easier to install.
Question on mine Specialized Command Post Internal routing : When I ride it sinks down after a few seconds , and I have to bring it up with the lever , and again after a few seconds, something gets loose or I don’t know what it is , the pressure is right , please help , thanks
Possibly too much tension on the cable. Use the barrel adjuster to loosen the cable, screw the barrel clockwise to collapse the barrel adjuster. If you have no more room to turn it clockwise you will need to loosen the cable at the pinch bolt and reset the barrel adjuster to half way at least.
You can do a test and release the cable (barrel) at the seat post. It should be a quick release, Test ride it and see if the seat drops by it’s self. If it still falls by it’s self you have an issue inside. I would talk to Specialized to see if it can be fixed by you are it may need to be sent in.
How did you get on? I have the same issue with a new bike. The seat drops while I'm riding. I've checked the cable and it seems to be setup properly. Tension is good. I'm thinking this could be a fault with the seat. Have to wait till Monday to phone the supplier!
I fixed it! the mechanic that set the bike up cut the cable to less than 12mm at the seat post :( I managed to eak out an extra 2 mm to the bitter end. It's not perfect and I will have to replace the cable, but for now it works. Millimetre's make all the difference with this seat post setup for the cable tension. It clearly states 17 mm in the manual so I do not know why they cut it to 10 mm?! Thanks for the video Bike Teacher, it was very helpful indeed.

Hi I just wanted to ask that when I installed my dropper, I only tightened one side of the barrel - meaning that I didn’t hold the 3mm side whilst doing it. Will the barrel come loose and is that something to worry about?
Nice video. Thanks for posting. Unfortunately the Command Post is not very good. I’m taking mine off my 2017 Specialized Enduro. It rattles (from day 1), loses pressure, and does not operate smoothly despite being rebuilt by the Specialized dealer. I am replacing it with the same X-Fusion unit that came standard on my Specialized Epic, which works way better. It is nicely dampened so it rises at the perfect rate and is very well priced. I can say the same thing now. Mine was loosing air too. I am happy with my LEV, very smooth and reliable. All the ones I run into are still running smooth.
In hindsight he didn't need to give the cable that extra 2mm for the silver barrel if you have to eat up that much play adjusting the seating slack at the end anyway.

How did you route the cable itself? I'm installing on a trek. Did you have to uninstall the bottom bracket or is this not a fully internal cable routing?
Thanks for this. The cabling broke on my levo and I tried to do it myself and ended up with massive extra cable. This allowed me to get the correct size without guessing

Hello can you help me, I have a 2015 Scott Genius 740, I want to put a dropper post, I have the mesurments is 36.1 but I'm not sure if the frame has space for the internal cable or I need to get a external cable dropper? I was looking at the Brand-X Ascend Dropper Seatpost. Thank You.
Camilo Lopez Your bike seems to have all the shifter and brake cables externally routed. But give a check near the seat tube (near the bottom bracket) for any holes for a internal routing to the external cables. If you don’t find them I think you got to get the Brand-X ascend 2 externally routed dropper.
Hi, sorry for the late response. I always look at the frame for holes for housing routing like you mentioned in your other comment. Some frames run tight inside especially those that force the housing around or under the bottom bracket. This does not allow for free space for the excess housing to go.
Which post do you have? The manufacture told me it is normal (KLEV) to manually pull it up if the bike has sat several hours, then its usually good to go.
Easiest is to make a sheath (liner from a housing and install it onto the existing cable before removal. if its too late for that, fish the cable in and use a thin telescoping magnet to grab the cable end. You could put a bend or curl at the end of the cable to help guide it on turns.
i would have tightened the cable from the handle bar because if incase the set screws come a little loose, you have take the whole post out just to tighten it plus it makes it a lot easier assembling and cutting your 7 inches from handle bar height and tweaking from there.....my 2 cents!!
Great video, just got my first dropper post and getting ready to install! One suggestion, ditch the background music, it is unnecessary and even irritating...
I’ve installed about 10 droppers and the ones with the cinch/barrel at the base are straight from hell. Anyone looking to buy a dropper should opt for one where the head of the cable resides in the bottom of the dropper. Much easier to install dropper and adjust cable length at the handlebars
Best dropper install video on RUclips!

Great video! Stumpjumper 2019 Evo, and my drop post broke at the cable connection 😔😔
Oh no!
How would you do the cable if my internal downtube hole is on the same side as my lever has to go on.
That’s okay. You can still run it on the same side. They do it for derailleurs as well. There should not be added friction.
Thank you for this very clear video. I have a question though. The lever that you pull with the screwdriver, the one where you need to fit the barrel in, is completely stuck in my dropper post. That's why I snapped my cable.

Yes, some will include it for initial set up. I like the levers that allow you to pinch the cable at the lever and not the dropper.

Are the cables universal for all bikes or do you need a specific one per bike model?
All droppers use the standard derailleur cable. There is a longer cable reserved for tandem bikes.
An old spoke ground to a point also works well for a pick
Yes, and inexpensive.
Great explanation!
You think I will be able to do internal routing with my 2020 Rockhopper 27.5?
As long as there is a opening connecting the down and seat tube you should be okay. I assume there is a routing hole near the headtube?
Bike Teacher yeah I see it now. I still haven’t received my bike, I just ordered it.
How did you route the cable itself? I'm installing on a trek. Did you have to uninstall the bottom bracket or is this not a fully internal cable routing?
It is fully internal. This carbon stump jumper has its own routing tunnels. I believe I had to guide it the rest of the way into the seat tube.

Most likely. I use a cable inside a housing and install into frame as a unit. Slide one or the other as a needed to make turn at the gram bend.
My Command post does not come up when lever is pressed. I have to pull it up by hand. How do I correct this issue?.
Which post do you have? The manufacture told me it is normal (KLEV) to manually pull it up if the bike has sat several hours, then its usually good to go.
What a wonderful DIY video. Thank you!
Thanks Malith , I appreciate the comment.
Why not eliminate the possibility of an error and do all the trimming at the level?
Very helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
width is a word. heidth isn't. Great video.
Thank you
Thanks
Great video, really helped me fit my command post.
👍
Awesome, glad to help.
Great video, dude!
Hey, thanks!
Hey I have a dropper post but I've lost the silver barrel you mentioned, do you know where I can get a new one?
I found some online, I typed “ks lev dropper post parts”. Also called cable clamp.
Or call Specialized directly.
Install the dropper is very easy, install the cable into the frame is the most difficult
Ya, this style is a pain. I like when the cable head mounts to the dropper, then trim the cable at the lever.
Great video. Thank you very much.
You are welcome!
Is it supposed to jump out like that? You would need a toque to ride that bike safely.
I never liked the Specialized dropper posts. You always had to over pressurize them to function properly.
Fantastic video. Thank you so much!
Thanks, your welcome.
Enjoyed video what's easiest way get cable though frame
Easiest is to make a sheath (liner from a housing and install it onto the existing cable before removal. if its too late for that, fish the cable in and use a thin telescoping magnet to grab the cable end. You could put a bend or curl at the end of the cable to help guide it on turns.
What kind of dropper is this?
I believe that was a command Post, 2nd gen from Specialized.
Transmision or brake cable?
Dropper cables are typically derailleur cables.
awesome explanation! thank you
Your welcome Libertwins.
Perfect pace, xlnt video, well done!
Thank you!
Great video. Where did you get the 17mm measurement to cut the cable? Is that a manufacturer measurement or personal?
I believe k lev dropper had it in the instructions, but its been working for other brands as well.
i would have tightened the cable from the handle bar because if incase the set screws come a little loose, you have take the whole post out just to tighten it plus it makes it a lot easier assembling and cutting your 7 inches from handle bar height and tweaking from there.....my 2 cents!!
I agree. 😁
Great video, just got my first dropper post and getting ready to install! One suggestion, ditch the background music, it is unnecessary and even irritating...
I have since then gotten rid of or turned it down a lot. That was a growing pain. 👍🏽
I’ve installed about 10 droppers and the ones with the cinch/barrel at the base are straight from hell. Anyone looking to buy a dropper should opt for one where the head of the cable resides in the bottom of the dropper. Much easier to install dropper and adjust cable length at the handlebars
I would not want that dropper post hurtling towards my gooch. That is some serious speed.
I call it the widow maker.
Great video! Helped a lot!!
Thanks!!
great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
