Idk, maybe they can leapfrog the Sens, maybe Mtl is still in the basement (who knows with Hutson joining), Tampa is on the downswing but still has some high end life in them. With Toronto, Florida, Boston, even Detroit looks poised to be fighting for the wild card again, it's a tough division to make any progress in until you're a really good team right now

The one wild card that cannot be predicted is the injury bug. Buffalo had to go through injuries to Quinn, Skinner, Thompson, and Samuelsson, and couldn't get a rhythm going throughout much of the season. One or more of the eight Eastern Conference playoff teams could suffer a rash of injuries, which could help Buffalo get into a playoff spot. Having Ruff back as the coach means one thing most of all...if any player doesn't play at their best, that player will be sitting on the bench, or up in the Press Box!

Buffalo has an uphill climb being in the Atlantic division. They will need to exceed expectations while other teams will need to come down off the hill. I am convinced the success of this team will come down to Peterka, Quinn, and Cozens elevating their game and the team in general benefiting from a good power play. They fix that and they will succeed. I feel they will be a tougher, faster, grittier team and that will help galvanize this team that nobody will want to face. The tools are there but there must be improvement from those whose time to shine has come.

Right. You have Florida, Boston, and Toronto with the three division spots all but locked in. Detroit and Tampa will be in the wild card picture or the hunt for that third spot, and the Habs are lurking too after having made some improvements. That's six teams for five spots, and we completely ignored the Metro division.
A lot has to go right for Buffalo, and a lot has to go wrong for some of these other teams in order for Buffalo to get there. Would love to see it, though.

I’m a Habs fan and I have to admit that the comparison of the Buffalo Sabres to the Detroit Lions is pretty fair. Both teams have had their own struggles and too many losing seasons for so many years. They’ve had franchise players like Jack Eichel and Matthew Stafford who were traded away to go win a championship with their new team (even though with Eichel, it was a combination of because the medical team didn’t want to let him get the surgery he wanted and all the GMs that were there failed to build a legit team around him). But I totally agree about the new mindset they need to use for this new upcoming season.

The core very obvious can compete for a playoff spot and they just need to do some tweaking around them (they revamped the bottom 6) have a coach who can coach them up X's and O's wise (Ruff) and not catch the injury bug.

I think Ruff might be the push the Sabres need to get over the hump. Last year there were games where you could really see how much talent the team has and how that enabled them to beat some really good teams. If they can do that in like 10 more games, they can snatch that wild card spot.

The talent in the AHL is actually very recent. Like 2021/2022 recent. When Kevyn took over he had to fix up the AHL alongside the NHL team as good players who weren’t ready for the NHL just yet were sent out to play under previous head coaches and GMs cause Rochester wasn’t a good place for them yet. It’s also largely why the drought has lasted so long too. It’s not cause they get “Fleeced” in trades. It’s cause they’ve not had the depth to fill in slots that were necessary within their AHL team when a player was out. Now we can rely on players like Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen or possibly even Helenius whenever a player is out. Or use players who are a few years out of the NHL like Savoie in a trade to get a player we need now.
They’ve also desperately needed to switch up their leadership and bottom 6 so badly, because Okposo and Girgensons were apart of the tank era and their bottom 6 was the main problem with goals.
Team will be back in the playoffs this year or next. Adams has done a decent job with the shitshow he received.

@@motsnrub Yeah I’ll be honest here too, I’m somewhat disappointed with losing Matt Savoie too as I was really hoping he’d make that jump onto the team next year. But having looked at Ryan McCleod’s advanced stats, he’s a great player to have traded him for, he fills a slot as you said and he was a 3rd line center on a team with 2 of the greatest players in the league playing in the other 2 slots. Buffalo he will have the ability to potentially move up.
And for Savoie, I don’t mean to say he’s not a good player/prospect. He’s just going to need a year within an AHL team playing against adults before he’s ready to make that jump. As compared to Helenius who has played against adults and done well for his age(11 goals in 55 games with something around 30 points), Noah Ostlund who would’ve won MVP if his country won in a tourney him and Savoie were at, and Jiri Kulich who won an award 2 years in a row within the AHL now.

Because Buffalo has sucked for so long that it makes people want to cheer them on and they've been around since 1970 and haven't won shit yet I'm a Sabres fan btw and the losing culture is getting old just one before I die please/thanks

@@MrOffroadjunkie I'm not exactly saying sabres don't deserve to be talked about or have their achievements celebrated. I just don't understand why my team exists in a vacuum. It's nice hearing people talking about your team isn't it?
