Excellent! Only a person like Raj can pull such a complex topic off in under seven minutes. The video made me feel like I had brushed through the entire togaf study guide in one shot
Thanks for explaining so nicely. I am doing my Executive mgmt course from IIM, even they are giving this as a reference link to understand EA. Have my exam tomorrow on MIS and this really helps. Appreciate your support.
Haha - that's interesting. I've sat through boring classes always wondering how I would have made it more interesting. Now this is my attempt to right some of that :-). Really appreciate your comment.
@@RajRamesh Thank you. I watched your series before starting with TOGAF. This made it very easy for me to understand the EA as a discipline. Thank you.
It's interesting to see many universities use this video to teach the concept of Enterprise Architecture. This, by far, has been the best collaboration in my career that has advanced the knowledge in our community.
I was preparing for CISSP and was struggling to understand what is meant by EA and atlast you taught me that the combination of those four domain is EA. Quite helpful
Thanks for the great review. I am working with several clients on EAM projects and this is often a good entry for additional stakeholders to understand the topic.
there are 1000's of videos and its when we watch this kind of video we get knowledge and satisfaction... thank you Raj for such a short crisp and clear video..
Nailed it! After going through a range of TOGAF materials and other references I was not yet able to clearly define "why EA?" and "what it does?" but yours is the best! Pls keep doing what you doing, I am that top fan who is (im)patiently waiting for your next video to come up every week.
Thank you so much for sharing. It's easy and simple to break it down 4 domains as you did that holistically summarize EA need and its significance for an organization.
You nailed it Raj! Its simply amazing that how nicely you explained a highly complex topic with ease and that too in such a simple term, truly kudos to you.
Very short and simple explanation of Enterprise Architecture and its components. Important part which I liked about the purpose behind EA to connect different parts of business and make them work together towards a desired outcome. Thank you very much the video on this topic.
Again simply superb explanation in such a short and crisp form. While seeing this video I was imagining where all I fall and where all EA handling this complex architecture.
Very well explained and I would say this is the best source of information about TOGAF, packed in just 6 minutes box. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, much appreciated!
Nicely articulated, one of the major issue which we observe is the actual implementation of any plan at ground level where aligning the human resource and mindset becomes a challenge and a key success factor in any architectural success
Yes, for successful implementation we need to consider many factors. Some of these are deterministic - like how system behave, and some are non-deterministic like how people react to change. Managing all that is the skill of a great implementation manager/team.
One of the most informative and well explained video on Enterprise Architecture! It can't be more simpler! Thank you Raj Ramesh for the video and effort.
Thank you for the video and for your thoughts. A question I ask myself is: in a cloud-driven company: do you still have enterprise architects or will you only have Cloud architects? How do these roles co-exist and collaborate in the bigger picture?
The cloud does not keep engineers from making a hairball architecture that is not futureproof or fails when there is some sort of regulatory or other change for the business. Cloud is a tool, not a destination. EA is a living roadmap to a destination that can use multiple tools to accomplish.
The tool question is a difficult one because it depends. Without mentioning specific vendors, we can look at what the company is looking to do. A small business for example doesn't need any fancy tools - maybe a spreadsheet/presentation/document/doodling tool will suffice. On the other hand, a huge business might need to formalize their tool set so artifacts can be shared across. More than the tools though, I think the mindset is critical. I've worked with either ends of the spectrum and companies in between - and many times we can get away (even at large companies) with doodling on a white board to understand the business model, major capabilities, processes, and the systems that support operations to begin establishing the mindset :-)
Awesome & straight to the point! If you don't mind me asking, what do you use for your voiceovers ? I mean is this your natural voice? or do you run your voiceovers through some software that makes them more crisp and professional. btw, I subscribed to your channel!
Hi, I recently struggled to explain to the business side why business and IT alignment is actually something to strive for. It would be great to hear your thoughts about why it is actually beneficial to align the IT with the business or if you believe otherwise why it actually is not necessary at all.
Yes Cj M - the alignment is critical because the IT applications have to support the business processes. Simple example: If I want to do taxes (in the US), then its better for me to use TurboTax, even though I could technically use MS Excel. If I use Excel, I'll be wasting a lot of time and energy. For larger businesses, this simple problem gets magnified much more. If there is no alignment, you can imagine the implications.
Nice one Raj 🙌🏼 Good to see the use of Technology Architecture to support the Business Architecture. In my experience, it’s Technology Architecture that drives Business and Business Architecture requirements, due to misguided focus on Technology. If the Business doesn’t have a need or use for the technology, no matter how ‘cutting edge’ it appears or is sold, it will as you say ‘easily becomes obsolete’. Unfortunately companies are realising that the hard one, hence the high failure rate in digital transformations 😏
There are lots of commercial and free tools for EA. The concepts are important to understand to use the tools properly. A google search for tool to capture the enterprise architecture will give you a bunch of results.
Complex!!! And complexity is driving to further levels of specialization, but IT automation is accelerating the automation of activities driving employees into 'new work' paradigms faster than adaptation can take place within a mind.
This video succinctly explains Enterprise Architecture! Kudos to Dr. Raj Ramesh and Christine Stephenson!
Dr Raj, your 7 minute video has explained EA better than hours of classes. Thank you!
Glad to hear it was helpful!

I need to understand EA to assist my entire country in its governments digital transformation. Thanks for creating this.
Thank you. I'm in HR desperately trying to understand my business more and this is just increasing my admiration of the colleagues I work with.
great
Working in partership with the other departments to understand your business strategic plan is a great way to use your enterprise architecture.

Thank you for the video and for your thoughts. A question I ask myself is: in a cloud-driven company: do you still have enterprise architects or will you only have Cloud architects? How do these roles co-exist and collaborate in the bigger picture?
Others can chime in as well. I think these roles will coexist in the near future, but has high potential of merging.
The cloud does not keep engineers from making a hairball architecture that is not futureproof or fails when there is some sort of regulatory or other change for the business. Cloud is a tool, not a destination. EA is a living roadmap to a destination that can use multiple tools to accomplish.
Perfectly explained, now what are the best tools to model this?
The tool question is a difficult one because it depends. Without mentioning specific vendors, we can look at what the company is looking to do. On the other hand, a huge business might need to formalize their tool set so artifacts can be shared across.
