    I'm all for diversity in gender roles, but what is painting a boy's nails supposed to do? That's imprinting distinct femininity onto men, which is something that everyone should experiment with on their own, not have it force-fed to them in kindergarten.

      It's all how you look at it (as with most things in life). My wife has done the same with my son (we're American). I will not lie, it made me a little uneasy at first. You say distinct femininity, but why is it so? Is hammering nails distinct masculinity? Ultimately these are all societal norms that are ingrained in us. We're not born with these norms after all. I think the point of role reversal exercises is simply acceptance, nothing else. It says it's perfectly OK to do or want to do things that society at large might say is reserved for one gender or the other. It also helps with understanding, being able to relate to one another. And lets be clear, in no way is it saying that boys have to paint their nails, or girls have to hammer in nails. As they grow up they will fall into their "roles", but hopefully in a way that's far more accepting.

      Lox Lover Well, that's fine. The only reason I worry is because painting one's nails is, thus far, seen as a female beautification process. We are in an age where being different, in clothing or appearance, from what is expected of your gender leads to a lot of bullying and trauma. I myself was bullied excessively because I looked weird and because I played with my hair a lot, something that is seen as distinctly feminine in my country. I can't imagine how much more bullied and teased I would be if I came to school with painted nails. I'm just worried that these kids will go to school with for example, painted nails, thinking it is fine, but then be bullied for it. I know very well how damaging it is for your mental health.

    • @loxlover1714
      @loxlover1714 6 лет назад

      I think that's precisely the point of the exercise, especially at that young of an age. As I said the entire point is simply acceptance. You'd hope that by the time these kids are older these differences will not be perceived as weird, since everyone would have experienced them to some degree.

      Femininity is a man made fantasy. It's an expected performance. If women were actually valued, the same way men are valued in a society, men would never feel emasculated by what women are actually capable of accomplishing.
      Rigid gender roles, keep people trapped in box, where they are not allowed to reach their full potentials.
      Imposing them, creates an imbalanced power dynamic.
      Throughout much of history, women have been left out of decsions made for them, which directly effect them, that they've had no say in creating. Men have traditionally gone to great lengths to keep women from being able to speak for, and represent tthemselves, politically.
      Thankfully, this is beginning to change.
      The world will be much better for it.

    Really enjoyed how critical and thoughtful this documentary was! Obviously the video expresses excitement for equality, but they still did a great job asking difficult questions. Like if doing stereotypical girls things with boys is helpful or just perpetuating stereotypes. Great stuff!!

    • @xBloodXGusherx
      @xBloodXGusherx 6 лет назад +1

      of course you like it because in your brainwashed mind you think this is great for women!
      let me break the news to you, men and women are made different for a reason!
      I as a man know about my feelings, sensitivity and humility. To suggest men don't know these things is insane.
      My physical make up, hormones and all puts those senses aside because at work moving heavy shit or dealing with hostile people does NOTHING to help me deal with that person.
      Please explain to me how men painting their nails does anything for them besides confuse them?
      That is a fashion choice emitted out to the world. It is a social construct for approval. Frankly women and men can stop doing it right now and the world will go on so we don't need it but women chose to feel comfortable in their own bodies.
      This shit is out of control.

      Viq I actually don’t think painting boys nails is a positive endeavor. Separating the kids in school to do “opposite gender roles” is pretty insane in my opinion - hence my comment saying that them asking those questions was good! They are good questions to ask, critical questions instead of just saying “of course it’s only positive” they actually questioned them on their practices.
      Were you hungry when you responded to my benign comment? Because damn, you are sure fired up over a comment saying that them asking difficult questions was good...I think you made some assumptions. Perhaps read my comment again and don’t assume I agree with the stereotype reversal, because I indicated nothing of the sort.

    I’m an American woman. Can I move to Iceland to find a good husband? I’ll never find it here. Our men can’t treat women with decency. I was strangled by my ex boyfriend and our system threw me in jail for surviving it all. All I did was manage to push him off me and run away. But I was deemed a criminal.

    Beautiful country!!! And as for all those commenters talking about islam, why bring islam into this??? Why not just look at all the things right Iceland id doing to achieve this equality!! And just to debunk your agrument, let me just point out that countries like USA, Australia, Japan, Canada, etc, do not have Sharia Law as the Law of the Land, and still have not been able to achieve equality in pay and better paternity/maternity benifits!!!!!!

      All the western countries have equality and men and woman get paid the same if they do the same job and work same hours. So don’t try to say that equality haven’t been achieved already because if you are saying that men and women aren’t equal in the West then you’re lying or dillusional. Not every damn profession needs a 50/50 women and men.

      @@pulse4503 Forcibly training little ignorant boys to behave like girls is the nasty motto of feminist political ideology.
      Undoubtedly, this is sexual violence done on their psyche . Massive protest should be done by right thinking parents against this sexual exploitation of their children . Our beloved children should not become the pathetic victims of hard core feminists with truly sick minds who want to promote their ideosyncratic feminist ideology .
      It is the absolute right of every child to be allowed to behave freely and naturally without being deliberately coerced into patterns of behaviour which their nature would never choose on it's own. This is child abuse at it's worst form !!.
      No doubt, the Iceland's positive image in the eyes of the world has been shamelessly shattered through the portrayal of this video.
