      From what I understand, he actually would use strings from more than one set of strings, so he'd get a thicker set for the top two strings and a thinner set for the bottom two to make it easier to bend them. • @jimilemons3437
      @jimilemons3437 5 лет назад +21

      Magic Steve actually, although at that stage in their career he played an Explorer it was not a signature model. His more famous guitar is in fact his ESP ‘Snakebite’ which is similar to an explorer but made in South Korea.

    • @jimilemons3437
      @jimilemons3437 5 лет назад +17

      Muhammad Irsyazman sorry bud, that is an explorer - he used two, one he called ‘So What’ and one he called ‘More Beer’, the head stock is a dead giveaway. He switched to ESP because they offered him an endorsement deal and he felt Gibson was taking him for granted. If you don’t believe that I’ll offer up that I own both a snakebite and an explorer and know them both well but That said, here’s an excerpt from ‘Gear Guide’:
      “1984 Gibson Explorer “So What”
      “Hetfield So What Gibson Explorer After the neck snapped on his Electra Flying V in 1984, James started using couple of different guitars. What soon came to be his main one was a white 1984 Gibson Explorer decorated with a sticker on it reading “So What”.
      This guitar was originally equipped with Gibson Dirty Fingers pickups (496R/500T ), but sometime in the late 80s - presumably around 1987 when Kirk Hammett switched to EMGs as well - James took the pickups out and replaced them with the EMG 81/60 set.
      Knowing that, and the fact that this was James’ favorite guitar at the time, the album Ride the Lightning (1984) was largely recorded using this particular guitar equipped with the stock Gibson pickups. EMGs didn’t come into play until the EP: Garage Days Re-revisited (1987) and …And Justice for All (1988).
      Just like his Electra Flying V, James restored his white Explorer and played it on “Death Magnetic” in 2008.”

      Maybe instrumentally, but Hetfield became a better singer years later. He definitely sung it better, when I saw them at the Rose bowl in Pasadena, in 1990 or 1991.the reason they weren’t better instrumentally, was mainly no Cliff on bass, but also Hetfield was recovering from burns, so he had a backup guitarist for him.

    People calling this "dad metal" must be 12 year olds. Nah actually, even 12 year olds gotta love Metallica, everyone gotta love Metallica! You can say a lot about Metallica in their later days, but 80s Metallica is metal at its best and purest. Also RIP Cliff, such an amazing bassist, we can only imagine what greatness he would have brought to Metallica and the world had he lived on.
    That being said, you simply must listen to Holy Wars by Megadeth! Shredding out of another world, exceptional drumming, meaningful lyrics and the solos are incredible.

    Yo Alex. As a long time metalhead ( over 30 yrs) it's great to see the bands you are reacting to and appreciating from a genre and time that I believe are the best- Metallica, Megadeth,iron maiden, Slayer, Pantera etc . For me it's from late 80s to mid noughties and maybe it is ' dad metsl' now to kids from after that time ( same as black Sabbath, Judas priest, Motorhead etc was for me, but it's the best and kudos to you man for making great comments and intelligent reactions different from the other reaction type videos on here. Hey Alex!!! Orion is going to blow your mind. Warning...it is an instrumental. If you are good at visualizing things...go for this. Close your eyes. Picture a nice muscle car driving in the night on a lonely road when the first notes start. I usually picture something like a classic Barracuda, Road Runner or Charger on the road at night, some rain coming down and it's dark...little moon light. You might want to wear goggles...your eyeballs are going to pop out.

    Metallica has a classical music influence if you couldn't tell. Cliff and Lars are classically trained in music.

    • @tomanthony3943
      @tomanthony3943 6 лет назад +1

      People who don't listen to rock can miss how much it is influenced by classical composers. Many of the great artists were classically trianed and bring that training into their works. One of the reasons albums like S and M and the Use Your Illussion albums from GnR, to name a couple, could use orchestrated music successfully. Also why many rock fans can also enjoy classical. There is also the who sub genre of symphonic metal with bands like Nightwish and Therion blending them.
