I live in the beginning of the 14th district. I really love that area for living (End of 15th and beginning of the 14th district behind the so called „Gürtel“ and above the West train rails, till Matzner-Park). Especially in the late afternoon this area becomes very relaxed and you get a feeling of southern vacation because the streets (Meiselstraße, Märzstraße, Goldschlagstraße) are full of trees and very straight pointing to the West which makes the sun shine unhindered into the streets in the eveming and gives that special southern feeling. The air is very good and there is usually always a light breeze blowing (Can be annoying in the winter). The connection to the center is super quick via the U3 (Best subway in Vienna in my opinion). The area has a good mixture of middle class and vivid immigrant social living. It‘s still a bit underdeveloped compared to the 7th, 8th, 9th district (Some people call it „The Wild West“ :D) but therefore rents are a bit cheaper and it‘s much more green. It would be nice to have more hipster cafes in that area but there are at least a few very popular ones like the Augustin. I love it here and my girlfriend was at first a bit sceptical when we were moving here but know she prefers it over most other districts (Even the very expensive 13th district).

Sounds really wonderful. ☺️ This is one of the neighborhoods I know very little about as it is located quite far from my usual destinations, but i love your description. I think it is very poetic. I feel similar about my neighborhood and Vienna in general. 😊

Nice walkthrough, Tomasz! Vienna is certainly a beautiful city. I may have a slightly unpopular question (perhaps) but would be interested in your view on how the security in the city is perceived by Viennese or how you personally feel it at present. Given especially the immigration to Austria, and many reported assaults especially on women stemming from certain immigration groups (not speaking about people legally coming to Austria, working, etc.). I've been considering moving to Vienna (also in tech field) but as a solo woman, this holds me back quite a lot, despite the beauty and livability of this city. Thanks for any comments.

I think this is a valid question. From what I see Vienna does not have as many problems as some German cities, but ofc I might be wrong. I think there are rich neighborhoods where perople feel very safe and you can for example run at night alone alonge the river with no fear, but there are also poorer parts of the city that do not feel so safe. Overall I think it's safe here. 🤔

You are welcome! It definitely varies by neighborhood but overall I think it’s very green and the access to the nature is really easy.

Until about 10 years ago the Blumengärten Hirschtetten were a real insider tip - not many people in general, and mostly just people who lived close by. But I guess that ship has sailed now - the many playgrounds in there can get crowded on a sunny weekend day.
As a live-long Viennese I can say that that video was quite a well summary. I would add that an additional advantage of taking the normal train from the airport is: You don't need to drive to Wien Mitte station - you can already depart the train at Praterstern if this is closer to where you will live, or you can stay on the train for longer.
And a budget tip for Heurigen: In the 21st district there are also several Heurigen-Villages (former villages, now parts of the 21th distinct like Stammersdorf) with much more reasonably prices Heurigen, and more authentic, less touristic ones.

I personally am a fan of the 9th district.
next to the donau canal, good connections, a lot of green.
currently I don't have that much home office but if that changes 19th or 22nd is my next destination.

Sorry for an offtop question. I would like to know if Java developers are in demand in Vienna (specifically, I am talking about 6+ years of experience, IT degree, advanced English and German skills). Are the chances good for finding a job with such skills? Your videos make Vienna look very very tempting :)

If you are visiting as a tourist it is best to park at the park and ride parking. There are a few of them.I like this one the most - maps.app.goo.gl/vR1yDyV1RFHjKHdY6 - but it is sometimes full so it might be smart to have a backup plan or just park a bit further away, for example here - maps.app.goo.gl/CaUvnvTHi8jbHQXQ9 - it is not as nice, but it is still close to the U-Bahn and not expensive.

Family in Vienna... I'd absolutely refuse that they couldn't pay me enough for that.
There are social problems in schools I've seen that during my time in Vienna and that was decades ago - and I'm sure they didn't become less (teachers even told me they had incidents where students kicked someone's head while he was unconscious), are they still dealing drugs in the tram? I saw that every day myself back then....
I was like one week in "Berufschule" back then during Summer, and changed to HTL afterwards.. first one was ridiculous (the teaching plan was nonsense), second one was better from the educational point of view but the environment had issues.
Not the first gen. foreigners who work caused problems in Vienna, it's mostly their children.

Hi. I’m sorry that you had a bad experience.
Personally we have very happy with our public school here. They even organize extra German classes and speech therapy for my daughter and a few other kids. All in the school, no additional fees or paperwork.
We live in a “good neighborhood” so it might look different in other areas. It is hard for me to know for sure.

@@TomaszJakubKusienicki I work in the electronic / software / mechanical engineering area, Austria is not a good area for that.
Primarily why I would not return to Austria is (as you have mentioned) the high tax rate, second of all market restrictions.
Girls very likely will have other issues in school than boys, but I would be very concerned due to my experience.
I also have a daughter and I'm satisfied the way it is for us right now.
I still have some friends in Vienna, but my stay in Austria is just tourist like nowadays - I just enjoy and don't drive or depend on the Austrian system or economy. I'm self employed in Asia.
