Hi David, Thanks for this 👍 The "Irish Tour 74" album was my introduction to Rory, back in the day. For a lot of us oldies, he was, still is and always will be - the G.O.A.T. Rory 'the glory' Gallagher, may you forever rest in peace in the eternal heaven of blues.☮️❤️🎸
Oh man, thanks for sharing. I've heard of Rory Gallagher, but for some reason I always thought he was an instrumentalist, not my favorite type of guitar music. But he was an awesome songwriter & singer. I'll be digging deeper and study him further for sure.
Awesome episode David! Rory was and still is one of most favourite players. And by coincidence, I'm just learning some of his stuff to play live, so thanks again, it's a real insight👍🙂
I don’t remember where I heard about Rory for the first time but as soon as I discovered him I listened to to him a lot. I showed his music to many people and they all liked it. That says a lot
Glad you did this about Rory.....i saw him twice (1st 72 and again mid 80s)......and the most outstanding thing with Rory was (still is) that was always true to himself and his music.....no posing or PR stuff....you saw and heard HIM...never changed...always stayed humble and yes he did use a capo quite often....and his white telcaster with slide was earsplitting sharp...haa....and he was very versatile with his more traditional irish musical training....so talented...cheers mate
I grew up with Rory Gallagher's music being all around me. I mostly grew up with my grandparents since my mother used to work full time and I still remember vividly the calling card and Irish tour 74 CD's ringing out all afternoon in the back of the house. Rory always found and did clever things with chords we all know and learn and with concepts like double stops and triads but he always found ways to manipulated them to be something really musical, brilliant, unique and memorable. His most well known song Moonchild is an amazing example of this, the main riff and chorus of that song is really quite simple to understand but its brilliantly written and really really memorable. Also his guitar tone on the 74 tour album and live in europe as well as on many of his albums is absolutely facemelting. I still get chills hearing his tone on his irish tour version of walking on hot coals.
I'd heard the name before, but never really looked at his work. But listening to some of these songs, you've got me interested. Going to listen to more of his stuff. Thanks, David!
My first time hearing Rory by many’s first exposure was in the middle or early middle of his career I was still in highschool and by chance on a late night radio show I heard Follow me off of Top Priority about 78-79 ish plus or minus a year or two. Then the live album Stage Struck it’s in my top five of live albums without a doubt… Ted McKenna on drums… the guy is absolutely on fire pushing the beat slightly ahead it makes a level of energy that few could achieve live the whole album smokes .
Rory seems to be the forgotten genius- not enough is said about this man my- go to album when it came out was Against the Grain...Let Me In was my first song learned by him and of course all the past albums I had to get and I was Bought and Sold lol!!!
Very interesting, most of the time we hear his blues work and those songs sound so different. I Fall Apart sounds like something that may have inspired Johnny Marr.
It’s great to see more Rory. I’ve been a fan since I first heard Laundromat in school. I later saw him in ‘79 or ‘80 on the Photo Finish tour at the Marquee in London. It was a very high energy night! I’d love to hear your take on the intro to Overnight Bag - I reckon there are two guitars :) Thanks for another fantastic video! Regards from Tipperary☘️ PS Yes, Rory used tapped beds. He also used to pull the string up from the fret board between the fretting hand and the nut to get some crazy high bends :)
" Late Great Irish Blues Rock Guitar legend " For a moment I thought we were talking about Bernie Torme 😉 Gallagher is a great substitute though and a quality Chordplay Thanks👍
Hey man, I've been watching you for a while but this is my first comment. I'm probably younger than most of your viewers (22) but I love most of the music you talk about here. I was wondering if you'd ever make chordplays for Type O Negative and Monster Magnet?
Rory was way ahead of his peers imo music wise, then when you factor in live performances he was a true great, a little side note he was born about 25 miles from where i grew up, they have this amazing rory gallgher festival there every year.
Moonchild reminds me immediately of Iron Maiden's Two Minutes Two Midnight' . And Iron Maiden has a song called 'Moonchild'. The opening riff was very cool, must look into it.
The story about his guitar is an interesting read. Rory had a very acidic sweat and it ripped up the paint very fast. That's why his guitar finish was always "Worn".
The reason why the late 60's & 70's are mentioned all the time, thru-out this compilation and dedication to RG , is 'cos nothing done, since then, has ever come near or close to what guys like RG, JH , the Kings , MK , RB etc did back in the haze of that era, ( & probably never will) . Rory was the human SOG
Hi David, thank you for doing some Rory stuff! Can i ask, for the first riff (Bought & Sold) which fingers are you using to play the 6ths on the d and b strings? It appears you're using middle and ring rather than dipping back down each time with the pick. It's a lot smoother than how i manage it
That Donegal man had it all...and when Hendrix was asked in an interview about the greatest guitarist player in the worlds...his reply was, "You should go ask Rory Gallagher"
Rory was my god in the 70‘s. I saw him 12 times live in Germany.
Very good, David. 🎸
Wow

Rory is an all-time fave, one of my first guitar heroes, thank you.
Rory was a prodigy an absolute acclaimed musical talent. An inspiration for a guitarist worth ones's salt!!
Thank you so much David! I`m looking foward to the next parts bout Rory. Always loved his songwriting.
Great job on my favourite musician, and humblest guy. Thank you.
“I fall apart” - what a song !!’ Thank you Dave !!! 🙏🙏🙏

Rory was a triple threat - Great singer, songwriter and player.
Glad you did this about Rory.....i saw him twice (1st 72 and again mid 80s)......and the most outstanding thing with Rory was (still is) that was always true to himself and his music.....no posing or PR stuff....you saw and heard HIM...never changed...always stayed humble

You're The Boss man, thanks❤️🔥
Rory rules🪢
Many Rory goodies for us to meditate upon. Thanks David.
Im also a millennial (1994) and I adore Rory,my grandma was from Donegal and it's such a source of pride for me that Rory was too.
I think what set Rory's chording apart from other blues rockers was his folksy Irish background.

Saw Rory in the early 80's and had no idea who he was. My mind was blown away! Been a huge fan ever since. Great lesson David!! 🙏
Many thanks for this hommage to one of the best guitarists ever.
Cool video David! Thanks for sharing!
Saw Rory at the Stone in S.F. and immediately went and bought Calling Card definitely fire so glad I was able to see him before his passing 🎸🤘
I'd heard the name before, but never really looked at his work. But listening to some of these songs, you've got me interested. Going to listen to more of his stuff. Thanks, David!
He was better on stage than in the studio.
Thank you for another choice video. Rory was indeed bad ass. Gone too soon, but what a genius legacy.
Class!!!☘- Bought and Sold......
🔊Awesome episode, RIP Rory 👊🏻
Thanks for this awesome video.

Great great insight and food for play!

LOVE IT!!!
Rory was the greatest of all time
Irish Tour 74 is my favorite album.
If his Strat could talk, it would have some Stories to tell. Thanks David
Let me repeat...Rory was badass !
I've got Calling Card, he definitely jams
Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much David.

That's fantastic, are there any young guns at this annual event, whom we should be aware of ?
Cheers David. Lovely jubly!
This is awesome!
Wayward Child's got some nice picking in the intro.
Rory is the Man,,, my. fav,,,,
Respect 🫡
Moonchild reminds me immediately of Iron Maiden's Two Minutes Two Midnight' . And Iron Maiden has a song called 'Moonchild'.
The opening riff was very cool, must look into it.
Thanks for profiling my favorite European player. I have one and only one poster of a guitar player in my garage. Yup, Rory Gallagher.
It definitely was a tapped bend, he did it live all the time.
Nice!!

Great stuff. You can see him do the tap (with his thumb or edge of the pick?) on a clip here on youtube Loreley 1982 (live).
Rory gave us Brian May and the treble boosted AC30
Rory #1
"How does it feel to be best the guitarist in the world?" Hendrix shrugged and replied, "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher."
Yawn

Dave, did you hear that Joe Bonamassa is doing a Rory tribute concert in Cork, Ireland?
Hi David, thank you for doing some Rory stuff! Can i ask, for the first riff (Bought & Sold) which fingers are you using to play the 6ths on the d and b strings? It appears you're using middle and ring rather than dipping back down each time with the pick. It's a lot smoother than how i manage it
That Donegal man had it all...and when Hendrix was asked in an interview about the greatest guitarist player in the worlds...his reply was, "You should go ask Rory Gallagher"
Hendrix never said that and Rory Gallagher didn't need anybody to tell how good he was, he stands by himself
I was named after this dude.. big shoes to fill 😭😂
Chordplay lesson with The Chords of Triumph.DEC 5 2019 where are the pdf files for this vid Dave?
