    I love when singers do this. It kinda reveals their musicality, showing that they can alter the melody to where it's comfortable for them on days they can't hit the big note. Great compilation!

    Christina Aguilera: That 'Lady Marmelade' note is fucking insane. I totally understand that you won't always get on the first try.
    Kelly Clarkson: Those high notes of 'Since U Been Gone' are insane too. She can hit them live but it's cool if she can't from time to time.
    Beyonce: She is fucking amazing live, so it doesn't matter if she changes things up sometimes.

    At least Ariana and Demi can hit those notes and they actually sing live ... (Besides if they hit every high note constantly they can risk straining their vocal chords)

      Justin Ruel Ines they're not really 'newbies' Demi has been in the business since like 2007/2008 and Ariana has been since around 2010. Besides they both grew up singing, I mean Demi had Barney and Ariana was in plays and on Broadway.

      +TrapBird (Camaro Girl) if we're talking now about mainstream relevance though, Demi wasn't that big until last year, and Ariana became widely known in the music industry starting in 2013 with her song The Way. Ariana and Demi have been known for a long time mostly because of television popularity but musically the weren't acknowledged in the mainstream until recently.

      She hit the note pretty good at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show but she got lucky cause her voice was dry af that day. Usually she dodges it completely but in that performance the note was raspy so it came out as raw power instead of a resonant belt but still sounded great.

      PetroleumJellay Yeah but I meant to say that while D5 isn't that much of a problem (Which she hit in both Victoria's and Xfactor performances, as well as in many other songs), Eb5-E5 would be a problem because she is an alto after all. She is good singer.

    They do so because the it damage their voice. Lets take Mariah Carey, she is obviously the queen of whistle notes as she can get them out easily, but she can barely do them anymore because she put so much strain on her voice. As for all the other artists, they hit very rough hard hard notes that is almost like a shrill scream, and it hurts them if they do it live too many times.

    Only good singers know when to Dodge, and these ladies are good singers. There are singers who try reaching the high note and they end up failing, and the next day they are already part of "Famous Singers Live Fail Compilation"...

    • @andresguillermoalvarezlope418
      @andresguillermoalvarezlope418 7 лет назад

      Her-nan Ma-chu El-ya-zar the thing is that most of them cannot reach those notes but pretends to it's not because you can reach a note one day in your life that you're able to do it every time most of the time it was just a lucky day but when you record you can easily lie about it so yeah basically half of them are good singers and good performers and other half of them are trying to be so

    • @her-nanma-chuel-ya-zar8576
      @her-nanma-chuel-ya-zar8576 7 лет назад +1

      Andres Guillermo Alvarez Lopez
      Those good singers I mentioned in my main comment are those who understands their body condition...
      some of singers has natural talent and some were skill trained talent... Natural talent of course can do their singing more easy than those skill trained, but both of them are still human who may like sweets and cold stuffs, or not used to an environmental conditions like too cold, too hot, or constant travelling, those can affect their performances in their series of concerts. (You can add up deep throating in the reason, funny, but i guess that affects their singing too...they are american ladies, come on... Dirty little secret...) let say beyonce with natural and exceptional talent can hit her notes little higher or lower than the notes she supposed to hit, while the other who just use technique could go flat, both depends on their body condition.
      And i really think that singers in the video are good singer.

      Then, in that sense, dodging's a wise decision. I like Adele's style- (if she's hitting a note on one of her records, but she knows she'll probably fail epically, if she tries to hit that same note live, then she'll back off completely, and let the audience take over, and just call it "audience participation." I remember her owning up to that in an interview one time!) o.o

    3:46 & 4:27 are beautiful. When Dodgriah shows up, the new melodies are fab! 4:56 was a slight change that she more than made up for with the whistles notes. Basically Mariah's section shows she remains a musical virtuoso.

      Rihanna dodged the note from Diamonds because it was transcribed up a whole step, possibly a half step. Meaning the song is higher than usual. Because of that, the note she would have to hit would hurt her because it isn't I her range, so she dodged it quite effortlessly. On X-factor and the fashion show were in the the original key, where she was able to hit the note

    to be honest nobody should give them crap for dodging a big note once in a while because they sing like 24/7 every day and have tours, recordings,practicing sessions. They can damage their vocal chords if they stress them too much. So they actually are smart for dogding the big notes once in a while. Plus we know their vocal capabilities they have their moments of slayage and they rock! Plus something different can be good sometimes

    • @bartdude82
      @bartdude82 7 лет назад

      SuɱtɧɩɳMstBAʋaɩℓaƄℓε Well now you do. If they cant sing up to studio quality, then I guess they aren't that good of a singer. Or I should say, they are only good in the studio. True singers like Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin prove that they can manage to sing live.

    • @Hakakuno
      @Hakakuno 7 лет назад +7

      bartdude82 Whitney 'dodged' as well as Aretha. What you're not taking into account is that touring is more intensive for vocalists than it used to be. Usually only big pop artists and rock bands were able to do extensive touring, and balladeers and divas like Whitney and Aretha were able to lay back on the money their songs and albums made. These days, 'big' singers like Ariana Grande and Beyoncé are not only expected to, but required to do extensive touring to be successful, and these are sometimes 100+ date tours with no understudy or stand-in like you'd get for say musical theatre. These artists are still human and no human can sing these notes all the time whenever they want to.
      Some artists like Beyoncé or Whitney have more resilient vocal cords and really good technique so you don't see this type of 'dodging' behavior as often as you'd see for other artists, but not everyone is built the same. Some people can sing back to back all the time, some can only sing well 2/7 days of the week. Sometimes your voice gives out right before a show and at that point, the gig is already booked and you can't back out. Would it be a better idea for them to 'try' the note and risk a hemorrhagic fit like Adele did? I don't understand what you expect them to do?

    Demi didn't exactly dodge her notes. She always sings them different to her audio tracks. She changes notes to add in riffs and runs and honestly i love the passion she puts into the live stuff more than her recordings. And with certain songs she does that because they have such a deep meaning to her that she doesn't want to "mess up" so she changes it just in case.

    What "big notes" do you mean Mariah Carey is dodging when she goes into whistle register? Is there any more "big notes" than that? Not that I see much point in whistle register, except from showing off or doing party tricks, but still - it is not something all singers do master (even if I'm sure most could with a little practice, it is a technique, quite in right now, for some odd reason).

      LottaTroublemaker It's dodging because it's easier for her to sing whistle notes than it is for her to actually belt. She has a lot of range but she's never been as proficient at belting as her peers. She didn't wanna sing all those G5s and A5s so she whistled instead. I'm not complaining, the dodged version sounds a lot better than the studio version.

    As a performer, I can say that it is impossible for your voice to always be at your maximum capacity during concerts. Even when you're not sick, there are days when your voice just does not feel right and it would be highly dangerous to go for the high notes and it is why we work around them during some of our live performances. But when we feel great, then we're going to land every single high note that we have to make the best show that we possibly can for the audience and ourselves.

    As a performer who does 3 shows 6 nights per week...I completely understand the necessity of altering (dodging) those studio recorded notes or altering keys. When you perform as often as these ladies do with hectic schedules (including interviews, photo shoots, tours etc), strenuous travel (typically on fumes), long nights and early morning... it's wise to do what you have to do to maintain your vocals. Also, let's not forget there may be times these ladies are sick or hoarse that we don't know of because when a good professional is actually sick, the show must go on and most audiences are non the wiser.

      It's pretty clear to me Ariana dodged those notes because on those particular days she either didn't want to put in the effort or thought that it her voice wasn't up to it that day. Pretty normal for singers to do that and judge how they're going through the performance to make those decisions. She didn't go lower because she "likes changing notes" lol (and yes, I know she goes higher/sings what is in the original but that's not what I'm saying).

    • @TehNinjaFlute
      @TehNinjaFlute 8 лет назад +2

      I find a lot of pop artists do this. They find a niche for their vocals to sound the "best" and then stick with it through out 90% of their songs. It really strips their music of any real variation.

    • @NoWuvDeep
      @NoWuvDeep 8 лет назад +1

      TehNinjaFlute I think it's the opposite. A lot of pop artists at least try to have some variety in their songs even with limited vocal ranges. For example, even Britney Spears' songs have some variety when you compare her slower songs with the upbeat ones. Those two just sound literally the same every song. It's incredible how they not get bored of their own vocals. I know a lot of people go crazy over higher notes like "OMG!!!" but I personally think people who can only do or just do higher notes are the most boring musicians ever. They are either limited or limiting themselves. I prefer it when musicians hit lower tones and use mixed vocals without going all high notes. They might not be able to hit all the high notes but at least you would hear some variety in their vocals. Use it once in a while but when you keep using it over and over again in every song, it just gets old really fast.

    Imagine if singers didn't "avoid" the big notes live or didn't lower the notes their voices would be so damaged. Performing the same hight notes every time they perform a song will really damage their voice. So it's a smart choice to avoid or change the note to one that is lower.

    As a singer, if there's a note that I can't hit night after night on a tour or during the run of a show/opera/musical/etc. then I'm not singing it in a studio. Period. It's only fair to the people who pay good money to see me perform with an expectation of what i'm going to sound like. That being said, I'm glad that these performers at least know their limits and don't ruin their voices with attempted vocal pyrotechnics.

    As a singer for the last 40 year's, I can tell you that many, many things can affect a live performance. Anything from a lack of good monitors, to not being able to hear yourself over the band, and of course a LOT of dancing.
    You hit those high notes after jumping around like an idiot for an hour, or more on stage.
    Not to mention the first and the last legs of any tour is all about equipment failures, lighting snafus, the interviews, no sleep, and serious overwhelming of the vocal cords.
    I always tell other musicians, if you break a head, or break a string, you.can replace it, vocal chords can't be replaced.
    Also, for those morning shows, many times the performer had a gig the night before, and who the hell is at their best at 7am, when they've done a gig, and traveled all night to get there, often with no, or limited sleep.
    I know as a fan myself, that we expect our favorites to sound like they do on the album, but that is just not always possible.
    Have a heart y'all! !!!

What you are calling a dodge actual sounds better and more soulful, but you probably wouldn't know anything about soul.

    I know she wasn't listed, but one of the things I admired about Whitney was the fact that she rarely to never cheated. She rarely if ever lip synced. Even when her once majestic voice had deteriorated she rarely 'dodged' the 'big' notes. She tried to hit them anyway, even if she wasn't successful. I admire her stubbornness and courage.

    I actually like the concept; definitely unique and interesting. I think the connotation of "dodge" makes it appear negative, when in actuality, it's just a key or note change.
    Singers can't sing the same exact notes EVERY TIME. There's vocal rest concerns, especially if you have a strenuous set list and several concerts left to get through. Can't blow madly in the first several dates and be weaker the latter half. And of course health issues or random variables.
    I personally like it when artists mix it up!

    I wonder why artists make this.. are they feel uncomfortable in this moments? ariana grande look kinda miserabel in these weird asian shows (no offense). maybe they want to bring in some variation or sometimes it just doesn't fit in the timing or whatever.

      K 420 they are fully rested in the confort of a studio..singing live is a different senario. factors could be different for various artists but the important thing is that they don'g mess up their singing career and still giving the audience fun

    Jaessie J is the best at high notes...she has the best vocal control of any singer in my opinion.

    As for Beyonce, people who are not musicians don't realize that she doesn't only dodge the high notes a few times, but she sings entire songs in lower keys. Listen, love on Top and Halo, for example, 100% of times are sung by her half a tone down (in other words: she sang it lower in the studio and the voice was made higher by a computer so that she wasn't outshined by Jennifer Hudson, who always sings her songs live in the same high tune of the recording) . When you are not a singer you don't realize that half a tone is almost not perceptible to untrained ears, and it's WAY EASIER to hit the notes. Another technique used by singers to make it easier to hit certain notes: melismas (singing several notes very fast). This is used not only because it sounds pretty, but because it's more difficult to hit a high long note with one single voice emission, that to hit it and then go lower and higher, lower and higher. Many others, like Beyonce (again), are masters in playback, using pre-recorded tracks made in studio to sound live. In other words, they go in the studio to record live versions of their songs, with mistakes, breathing, and other effects so that it sounds live....and then in the concerts, they alternate REAL LIVE SINGING with these pre-recorded tracks and back up singers....and that way, people don't realize it but they are not actually singing live in many moments of the show. This pre-recorded tracks are used by most singers at big awards (like the MTV awards or the Grammys) or at big events where there are millions of dollars at risk, and there can be no mistakes, like the Super Bowl.

      Absolutely. I'm a huge fan of Beyonce but she is the master of this. But this is what makes her performances so iconic.

      You're kind of hating on someone who probably sings and performs a lot better than you. It's easy to judge someone else's singing, but I want to see you get up on stage every night and sing your heart out the way Beyoncé does.
      The fact you said Beyoncé uses playback, to hit high notes, is CRAP. Have you ever watched An Intimate Performance at Wynn Las Vegas or seen Beyoncé sing Acapella... She obviously has scheduled dates she needs to perform and the reality of a cold or losing her voice would call for lip-syncing or backing vocals, but to try and make it seem as if she uses these tools for a lack of talent and discipline is asinine.
      She does NOT need help when it comes to her God given talent.
      I'm sick of people criticizing her voice or saying she isn't that special. I've seen her live, and it's a fact she was put on this earth to be on a stage.
      There are thousands if not millions of talented individuals, BUT putting them on a stage to entertain and make it in this industry is a whole other ball game--that Beyoncé has conquered.

      ***** Ok fan boy.....you do realize they earn MILLIONS for what they so they deserve to be judged, just as you and I get judged for our jobs? I have BOUGHT her music and contributed, and I have a right to my opinion whether I'm famous or not, a singer or not. The argument that I can only speak if I am a Grammy winner is stupid. That's not diminishing her talent. The fact she uses playback doesn't diminish that talent either. It's only you and the little bees that expect us to say she's perfect in everything and that she's a superhuman that never gets tired, which is really weird and sick.

      I think most of us in the Beyhive are aware of this. What we usually do is compare vocals from one performance to the other to see what's pre recorded and what isn't. Some songs are 100% live others are completely lip synched. However to expect a singer like Beyoncé to sing live 100% for over 100 shows on tour is ridiculous. Beyoncé preserves her voice, if she sang live for every single performance she would damage her chords just like any other muscle that gets overused. Beyoncé is an incredible vocalist though, lip synch doesn't change that.

    Hitting high notes can be pretty hard and it's also pretty cool to hear the singers recreate their music a bit by changing some notes.
