Me and my friends often go as a group to Cornwall / Wales / Dorset (where i live). Generally stay at campsites using Pitch up app which is easy. Normally just a big field with some toilets and a shower block. The sites that are too legit are a nightmare! For me having space around my pitch, having a fire and not being told how to park is key to my camping experience. 🔥

    Hi,
We are caravanners and use CAMC sites.
Check in is easy take your details then you find your own pitch using the coloured peg system then let them know.
We are doing a 3 week Scottish tour this yr spending on average 2/3 nights per site then move on.
We think its as easy or hard as you make it.
PS we use our own kitchen and toilet 😮.
These are just our thoughts and how we do it.
    P and J 😉
PS we have friends with motorhomes and we all get on fine.
As for the cost of a van alot of car/caravan outfits cost more than a camper/MH 🤔

I was talking to a campsite owner in Somerset recently who told me about the spiralling costs in running his site over the last three years. His electric alone was at one point multiplied by SEVEN times, he's now more recently got it down to "only" Four times more than it was in 2022. Everything else has grown enormously, staff costs, insurance costs, H&S regulation costs, maintenance costs,.....yet people still whinge about rising pitch rates.

I totally understand that but I think it’s a much broader issue as people only moan about those costs rising because they can’t afford them.
If you think about it the business is struggling as everything is rising, so charge more, people are struggling as every is rising so can’t afford to pay more.
The country has a big problem on its hands because the living cost is so high but wages etc have barely moved.

I have said it before, and I will say it again,@@ChrisSloanes
If you go with the Camping & Caravanning Club, you camp for £10-15 per night. I am, as I type this, at a Teesside DA Meet at a commercial site/five van site, where we use their rally field. Some spots have EHU (a minority) but there is water, there is somewhere to empty the toilet cassette and leave rubbish. £10 a night! A 10 minute walk to the centre of Ripon from Lockside Caravan Site, not the moat level field but grass is short and there is a CANAL at the bottom of the field. Who can complain at £10 per unit per night?
Arrive when you like within reason, sign in & pay for how many nights you intend to stay (1 night up to 5, for this meet). Only rules are quiet from 11pm to 7am, you must be a club member and you should park with the front of your vehicle on a flag to ensure 6m (20 feet) from other vehicles. What can you do, that's legal for £10 a night?

@@ChrisSloanes but ...campsites are mostly fully booked and can afford to turn people away who won't do a 2 or 3 night minimum stay....so are they just maxing out the demand / supply equation? If they have enough people willing to pay the extra cost then they won't notice or be bothered about those who can't afford it now.

Additionally we cook in the CARAvan but also (like today) on a BBQ, and sometimes eat out.

The group of friends I often/usually go out with are about 50% motorhome/camper vans and 50% caravans. One of my mates has a caravan, a large motorhome and a campervan conversion (sometimes he uses the 4WD campervan as his tow vehicle for the caravan so if he is visited by family, they can use the van whilst he uses the canpervan). The ulitmate in flexibility.

We need the campsites for charging up our powerbanks and for a decent shower, the shower in Dougalthecampervan is shite.

My pet gripe is the CAMC, they changed their name to add Motorhomes but they don’t recognise that many MHs want to be able to rack up on the day but CAMCs dynamic pricing makes it very expensive, they expect you to book well in advance so just like tuggers, but many MHs want to be flexible arriving late afternoon, stay a night or two then move on, so why should they be penalised. Come on CAMC be honest and fair, if you want MHs on site stop charging them more 👿 You can pay over £50 a night which is profiteering

I tend to use park up's during the week then spend 48 hours on a campsite at the weekends to hook up, doing my laundry, charging up my power bank, having a decent shower as I have v.quick showers in the motorhome. Can also get my groceries delivered from Sainsburys if I fancy it. I also never fry food on the hob in my van, I use a small air fryer because I don't want my bed linen to smell like a chip shop after a few days.

Campsites come in all shapes and sizes and what you need depends on your circumstances. Some time ago I needed children friendly sites. Now my perfect site is small, attached to a country pub with sea views, no children, no dogs and no loud adults. (I am a 63 year old with camper van, love travelling and avoid miserable humans) 🤣

I think the first 10 minutes of your video you are guilty of assuming people use their vans in the same way you do, in life we are all guilty of making such assumptions, this then leads to the conclusion that campsites are not fit for purpose and therefore dead.
I think there is a total need for campsites as they are now, they work for many people, however I do believe there is a big gap in the market which isn't being catered for and that's the continental aire style system in Europe i.e an area that's lit, secure, has water & elsan points, maybe electric hook up for a small charge, no need to book, just rock up at any time and for it to be cheap as chips.
The system would be incredibly easy to set up in council controlled car parks, say allocate 10-20 spots for overnight parking and add the minimal facilities required, They are already wacking in electric car charging points, have CCTV and often toilets and bins etc, however, councils and central government don't want to do this, they are actively discouraging people using their vans and van life be it weekend warrior or full time. This won't change until government policy changes and organisations that have the power to lobby government have a vested interest in the current campsite system.
Unfortunately I therefore don't see it changing unless you can lobby government, that needs someone to step up, maybe first step is to start a petition on the government petition website and promote it on all the van channels, get people to write to their MP etc etc.

Your bright idea is called Europe. Move away from the wet windy northern parts and see far better places, eat far better food for far less money than the miserable north 😂😂😂
