- Today, we're continuing our travels exploring food around the world with some home-cooked Liberian food! This is the second African food video, the first was an African Fusion, and next will be Ethiopian!

I have only ever had Nigerian food because my family makes it all the time. Is Liberian food better than Nigerian or are they similar?
@@whocares-sq7zh Many of the countries across West Africa share similar dishes. When made correctly, they are all great. The difference is in how it is prepared and cooked. I'm Liberian so I'm sure I'm biased, but I believe we have one of the more complex flavor profiles in the region because we add so many ingredients to each dish. Jollof rice is one dish that we distinctly cook differently from any other country. While other countries keep it simple with seasonings and tomatoes/pastes and may add a choice of meat to go with it on the side, a Liberian will add/cook beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, vegetables, etc., all in one pot which adds more flavor to our Jollof Rice. I hope that answers your question.

The dishes looked very similar to Indian dishes but I can see different spices were used. The bread looked like mochi! Glad you’re so open to trying different cuisines. I’d recommend Cambodian food which is lesser known but really packed with flavor!
@JanW that's not bread, that's Fufu(usually pounded cassava or plantain) but yes, you are correct, the texture is exactly like mochi

The chicken and gravy is my FAVORITE!! I'm trying to make it at home with the check rice! I think that's the dish most american or Europeans can eat easily and with the check rice it makes it look fun 😂

I grew up eating Liberian food but it takes time for some dishes to grow on you for example I hated gravy, pepper soup, and cassava leaf stew but now they are my favorite dishes thanks for appreciating our culture🇱🇷❤️

Eat the greens with some white or brown rice 😅 much better. She shoulda gave you some pepper soup for the fufu. The greens are much better with rice. Not too much can top the jollof 🤷🏾♂️

Those are Liberian world class meals.
Here in liberia we cook our plam butter with the big white bitter balls and put some country spice in it and add some plam butter leaf ...if you're sllowing the fufu don't allow the plam butter to dry ..

There's a variety of dishes in a Liberian cuisine, most of which take precious time to prepare because you have to marinade and slowly cook the different types of meats in various stages. There's a unique method to all that delicious, flavorful, mouthwatering experience you portrayed in this video.
Since the chicken gravy is one of your favorite, you may wanna also try it with check-rice, boiled cassava, yam, sweet potatoes, edoes or plantains (ripe or green).

I can never swallow fufu whole. I’m just not built like that lol. My grandma would make fun of me for that
Fufu is eaten differently depending on where you are. Some chew and some swallow there is no correct way to eat fufu☺️
Let people chew or swallow. Whatever they want. I'm Liberian and I do both. Chewing allows you to savor the food more sometimes.
@@Jadeamillion True, but I think they said that because Liberians swallow their Fufu though. I’m assuming that the person is Liberian like me and I didn’t know that you could chew Fufu. I grew up thinking that you weren’t supposed to chew it and just got used to swallowing it.

We Ghanaians have palava sauce too. I had some with yam.
Remember that a lot Ghanaians used to live in liberia before their war and also a lot of Liberians settled in Ghana and so picked up on some of the Ghanaian foods and have added their own twist to them. Especially the fufuo and Palava sauce
