      he is mate and it may have come across as I want to be the big boss and want him to clean my shoes but I want him to be able to do the work I can do asap, but all the time he can’t he knows his role is helping me run my business the best we can.

    We have all our apprentices do the jobs I don’t want to do, 👍🎉

      hopefully it won’t be long before he needs his own little helper,he knows his role and is happy to have the opportunity to hopefully grow but all apprentices know they have to do the jobs that don’t earn the business as much as the technical jobs

    Barney is spot on, I worked for a breakdown company for 32 years. They built a database they called THD and it was filled with known faults found by previous patrols. Very helpfull and can save time and money.
    Another excellent video 👍

    Barny seems like a good lad. Stick with him. I started at a Rover dealer in the late 90s emptying the bins. Own my own garage now. Hard work and the trade can be shit but decent money if you're prepared to work and learn. Buy your tools. Learn and remember. Pick your jobs. Don't be afraid to say no.

    I'd add 'Environmental impact affecting fault' to that list mate, ie car hot, cold or weather wet or dry. Especially when there is a potential for driver error in parasitic draw ect I find it helps me ask additional questions in finding the fault ( ie was Mrs Jones rushing to get the kids out the car seat in the rain.) It sounds silly but I like to collect information for doing this road side.

    • @rmsdiagnostics

    All deposits are refundable even if you tell your customers they are not. Credit cards will always refund as we have found out many times, However if you call it a booking fee that is not refundable as you have supplied that service by simply booking them in.

    • @rmsdiagnostics
      @rmsdiagnostics  26 дней назад

      yeah I thought that was the case but it’s confusing to the customer, I’ve not had to return many but deffo gets rid if the bad customers instantly 🥕🥕

      I have watch a lot of his videos didn’t know he had a data base, it’s the clever people like him that I don’t show much of my test processes etc.. mine s more about running a smooth workshop and making changes, the garage visits help us all learn and share.

    Why is your invoice system not capturing all the information you require (that Barney is suggesting)?

    • @rmsdiagnostics
      @rmsdiagnostics  Месяц назад +1

      the garage systems that implements that is more for service based garages and would be wasted on us and it’s not very cheep,google calender is amazing but of kit you can use like a old school T card system but it’s just inputting the details we need to manage,

      we been doing it for around 3months and it’s a non negotiable,we are lucky that we have very little competition and all our work is on recommendation,all the good customers say I fully understand and the people that would probably muck you about say they will call back and normally never do or they call around 10garages and get told they need to bring to us and have to call back and pay.

      If you have far to much work on don’t be trying it just do it,non negotiable even if it’s trade make it clear that you are now taking deposits and you will trust them once,if they let you down bin em off😂😂find me on Facebook and we can talk over how we approached it and how we implemented it

      @@rmsdiagnosticsHey Bob, all in favour of deposit taking. It filters out the time wasters! I assume a deposit paying customer can reschedule if something in their life i.e emergency crops up?

      If we have enough notice a couple of days yes,we have had people phone on the day saying they forgot about another appointment they have had and unfortunately that don’t wash, the main thing it stops is people calling on the day and saying they took it to another garage and they have fixed it after we have held a appointment for 3 weeks for them😡😡

      maybe incorrect wording I grant you but some job need doing by a untrained member of staff and other jobs need a highly trained member of staff. I pay my accountant to do work I don’t want to do but he is happy with it😂😂

      Thats how a decent apprenticeship begins, doing the crap bits, he’ll become good at his trade if he sticks with it.
      Moly coddling from the start destroys young people, thats why in every trade there are less and less decent people.

    • @CosmicPrawny
      @CosmicPrawny Месяц назад +1

      That's how I started. Start from the bottom. It's an apprenticeship not a paid for Uni degree.
