    You two are the best representation of the "normal" population when it comes to fitness and clean eating. But unfortunately, most people tend to follow fitness accounts with super fit girls/ guys under unrealistic programs and body goals for most of us.
    Keep it up!

      Absolutely! It's why I love them so much. They are fit and a great source for information and advice and awesome workouts but they are not dogmatic, #fitlife automatons. They are realistic about fitness and health while also being very fit and healthy. They show you fitness doesn't have to be hard or consume every aspect of your life. While a fair amount of discipline is involved it should be fun and make you feel good. There is one YTer I follow, a fitness girl. She's very sweet and she's great but she is intense and seems consumed with her diet and body and is in it for mostly appearances. She's fun to watch but it seems like such an exhausting way to live. If that's what you love then go for it. But most people just cannot sustain that.

    this is exactly what most of us need to hear... it's so maddening when someone tells bananas or potatoes are poison for you when you feel fine and energised after eating them in moderation... so tired of this militant attitude 😓

    • @leatherxrose7743
      @leatherxrose7743 7 лет назад +55

      B E exactly... but most people think potatoes and bananas and rice make you fat and you should only eat boiled vegetables three times a day to lose weight... I even went to a so called dietician who told me to eat only 1000 calories a day failing which I would probably never lose weight 😒

    You mentioned that you aren't the so called "Face of fitness." In my opinion, you are definitely the face of fitness- taking into consideration that fitness is not only physical, but most definitely mental as well. I believe that moderation is one of the hardest things to achieve and satisfy yourself with (especially when it comes to the thin line between appearance-related motivation versus health-related motivation) , as well as being one of the most difficult things to showcase, as you guys are doing. Kelli and Daniel- you are what this industry needs. Thank you! Keep it up :) !!

    I wanted to share because I think that it's less effective & possibly even counterproductive & dangerous to set up a totalitarian mindset where you only promote the concept of perfection; it's just not realistic & I think it can be alienating & actually set people up for unhealthy relationships with food & exercise. I think the "all or nothing" approaches are part of what keep so many people away from trying out healthy habits at all.
    If we approach the topic with a sense of moderation, always with an eye on doing better today than we did yesterday, it's a much healthier, functional, sustainable and likely successful pathway to actually implementing and keeping those healthy changes. FitnessBlender Thank you for this video. I'm in my 40s and I'm in really decent shape. I got stuck in some of the extreme sides of fitness. It's no good. Much of the fitness field is crammed with neurotics. I'm sorry. Many who make money off "fitness" would not wanna hear what you're saying right now. So thank you. It's funny that your videos really helped me get in better shape.

      FitnessBlender I am very glad you shared this. I have been on both sides of the diet game; both laissez-faire (i.e. do what I want, eat what I want, whenever I want and however I want), and overly restrictive/totalitarian. Moderation is definitely key because both lifestyles are unhealthy. I always tell myself, when it's not fun anymore, I don't do it. I HIIT 3-5 times a week, but I change up which HIIT routines I do to keep it interesting and "fun". I also go to Zumba, dance, interval/circuit class, step, spin, and a boatload of other classes to keep myself "engaged".
      I used to fear bananas and most fruit (carbs), but now I love them. For some time now I've felt guilty for "relaxing" my diet into more of a moderated healthy lifestyle; however, this video reassured me that I'm making the right choice. Truth be told, I feel better with letting myself have that rest day if I need it, and taking care of my TOTAL health. After all, stressing an injury is counterproductive, and carbs are not bad in moderation.
      There are truly no "bad foods", just foods that may not fuel your goals. For myself, feeling better is a goal that I cherish, and foods that make me "feel bad" (wheat) should be limited if not avoided. This doesn't mean that I cannot have other things once in a while. Thank you for driving this point home, and solidifying the fact that life should consist of more than hitting all the right macros.
      Thank you both again for the workout videos and helping me on my fitness journey.
      Love,
      Jen
      PS
      I love cheese too ;)

    Kelli, this vlog made me cry - it resonated so strongly with me. All my life, I've had a mixed up relationship with food and exercise and it's something I'm still working on. People tell me they wish they were as fit as me (which sounds like I'm bragging, but I'm not), but I envy their ability to have a slice of pizza or an occasional bar of chocolate and not worry about it. I'm definitely better than I was when I was a teenager, but I still worry about what calories I eat for breakfast or lunch. I've saved this vlog to watch again. You are an inspiration in my journey to eat for health and enjoyment instead of trying to have the perfect body. Thanks so much for your sensible and balanced approach and for being open about your own story.

    I actually struggle with bulimia, for many years now. My problem didn't start because I wanted to lose weight but because of my life situation back then. But it did come to that in the end. And I don't want to talk about that but I have to say one thing. Changing an entire lifestyle takes time. I started eating healthy and exercising with your videos a little over a month. And I feel good, I eat and I don't have any thoughts of purging 99% of the time. That 1% I just push out of my mind. Me getting better in the eating disorder apartment is far from over but you did help me a lot. Everyday that I live healthier and everyday that passes with me feeling happier is a success. And that's all I had to say ☺

    This is one of the reasons why this is my favourite fitness channel. The workouts are fantastic, but I love this mindset too. It's so useful to hear this - it's easy to assume that to be as fit and slim as Kelly you must work out at least 1h a day with hardcore hiit and weights and running, and just eat steamed broccoli and lean chicken. If you miss a day or eat a cookie you've failed completely and you're going to be fat and unfit. It's not like that, but it's hard to see it sometimes. Kelly's attitude is amazing and so inspiring.

    Kelli, you are my role model in so many ways. You inspire me beyond words. I struggle so much with finding the right balance between being as healthy as I can be and obsessing over food and exercise, and your words are just so healing for everyone out there that feels the same. Since I discovered fitnessblender, I have begun to shift my focus to self love! I no longer try to be my biggest critic but to enjoy all types of food again,not beating myself up about the workouts I didn't do, feeling energized and happy after the ones i DID. Kelli, I now am no longer seeking a perfect body, but I discovered something so much more worthwile. And I thank YOU from the bottom of my soul for that.

      FitnessBlender I've found that for my wife and I the biggest shift when we focused not on the diet and exercise as a way to lose weight and look amazing, but to be happier with our lives. i hadn't really focused on strength training much until my wife pointed out how much lighter it makes the world feel, especially when you have to pick up kids. and it helped us to eat well when we stopped looking at calories and started to figure out how to make healthy food feel healthy and fun, instead of a chore. in that kind of context, skipping a few days and eating a dessert felt less like guilty treats and more like the whole point of getting fit in the first place: so we could enjoy all the other things in life more clearly.

      Eating healthy on a budget. In the country I live, fruits and veggies and other lean health type meats are not cheap. I buy what I can that's reasonable and substitute where possible. It's not impossible to eat well but it is challenging nonetheless.

      FitnessBlender I usually eat 4 times a day, not good, I changed it to 2.5-3 instead, so breakfast, something light for lunch, and dinner(usually around 5-6, not 7) and I don't eat at night anymore(which was my 4th) instead if I'm hungry I eat fruits, and i feel better actually overall, so I guess overall message is u don't always have to be full, it's fine if Ur a little hungry

    I love this video! I agree with Kelli 100%. There are a lot of people who inspire others with their fitness pages in Instagram and other social medias, but they also can give a depressing image to them who actually just want to exercise without strict diets and plans. Nowadays it seems like exercising and healthy eating has to be either "all in or nothing." Most of the fitness gurus etc. are professionals and normal people shouldn't even try to keep up with them. At least that's what I think.

    I used to do fitnessblender a bit before I joined a gym. I also did blogilates, and I never felt more unhealthy. I don't think anything is wrong with her program, but I personally got way too obsessive with it. Sure, I was smaller but I was mentally very unhealthy. I think your workouts are way more realistic and, though I go to a gym, I still love having options like this. I personally can't do any HIIT that involves jumping because I injured my knee. I injured my ankle from blogilates too. :/ I know that is MY fault and that I didn't have the right training and mindset, but I do now. I work out and eat to be healthy, both physically and mentally. If I want to have ice cream, I let myself have it. I just stop eating anything once I'm full. I threw away my scale, and my clothes still fit! Exercise is such a great add-on to a lifestyle when done in moderation for health reasons, as opposed to looking a certain way. I always said I'd be happy once I was at a certain weight, and I never was.

    People also need to be reminded that if you focus on looks it's very easy to be frustrated. Making radical changes to the way the body looks it's incredibly difficult for most people (if you are already on your natural weight). I'm stronger, have more muscle than ever and eat the most moderate I ever have but I still don't look super fit or toned, still have cellulite etc, simply because that's my body type. There are people with fantastic looking bodies who eat like crap and never work out. It's always better to focus on health and what our bodies can do.

I'm still working on my relationship with food and exercise, and it's kind of a daily reminder that I'm not doing this for a specific body type, but for my health. Thank you for this video about being moderate with diet and exercise, because sometimes I think the really restrictive diets and/or the really intense frequent exercises are the things that come up predominantly when it comes to exercise and diet.

    I feel like this is fine when you're already where you want to be and are trying to just "maintain" but when you are trying to lose weight you kind of have to be militant

    • @fitnessblender
      @fitnessblender  7 лет назад +22

      That's the thing though - - NO you don't! Militant habits can actually end up making it harder. With harsh habits, you're possibly harming your body & making it more difficult to lose or maintain. On top of that, with harsh habits, you gain no knowledge of how to live long term, so even IF you do see results, you'll be completely lost on how to maintain them. Here's my experience - it's just one, but maybe others will share their experiences as well @ ruclips.net/video/VM99CXSPcVM/видео.html

      Ay T true. thats why she explained the importance of discipline for beginners. Things tend to go dangerously far once you overgrow your begginner phase but still act like one out of fear or false belief that the progress will stop once you adapt your lifestyle to your new body, different needs and different intensity. It is crucial to recognize these shifts in progress. Otherwise it comes to analogy: like a 3rd grade student stuck with the old 1st grade lectures. If you refuse to proceed to the 2nd grade instead of progressing you will end up crashing.

    • @momlifeonpurpose
      @momlifeonpurpose 7 лет назад +2

      Ay T I'm probably a good 40-50# away from where I want to be, but I can't tell you exactly because I got rid of my frickin scale. I do know I'm down two jeans sizes in the past few months. I'm eating better and exercising at home three times a week.

      In my own personal experience, 'militant' always backfires. Especially when you're starting out, you can feel waaay too deprived and the temptation can lead to a severe overindulgence when that dam finally breaks. Better to allow small indulgences on occasion to keep any overdoing it at bay, and that's better for you in the long run.

    This is great. I'm pregnant for the fourth time in four years (!) And this would be the first that I'm not counting calories. I'm just eating moderately and clean. And really listening to my body about exercise - not doing as much weights as I used to try to push myself to do - I would get so tired! Now I'm doing lots more Pilates and low impact exercises... AND I FEEL MUCH BETTER! Yay for this video about moderation!

    I'm only 14 and have valued fitness and health for only a while. I have found that eating is a struggle for me , not eating necessarily, but eating the right thing for my body. Kelli, your message is exactly what I have figured out too. For me personally I try to eat things that benefit my body and make me feel good. Eating chips doesn't do that for me, but eating toast with peanut butter and some strawberries on the side makes me feel incredible, especially after a HIIT and lower body strength training workout. I work hard for my body, because I think my body deserves it, and at the end of the day whatever the scale says or whatever I look like is just to be left alone , because as long as I know I'm benefiting then I'm okay. I just wanted to say that ur message is very unique and I think it will bring insight to others. And I'd love to see more vlogs from you an Daniel talking opening like this. Thank u.

    I am a nutritionist and everything you said fits well into my training and education. It reminds me of Michael Polin's tag line "Eat Food, Mostly Plants, Not To Much". Yes, it can be difficult to start that practice if your using to having food super "tasty" i.e. filled with sugar, chemicals, and salt. Baby steps are best for setting people up for a future of eating healthy as a practice and not restricting yourself from any foods, forever.

    I have always been an active person but have never enjoyed or stuck to any sort of fitness plan. This vlog and all of the videos I watch on FitnessBender have changed that for me. Working out with these two feels like I'm working out with people I know. People who are living a healthy life, but are real. Not ripped, tanned robots who make you feel like you have to buy their equipment or drink their shakes to be the best you. I love when Kelly's pony tail falls out. I love when even Daniel has to take a break from his intense videos. I love that they remind me to breathe and to not push myself to pain. I am prone to perfection and have always been a slave to the scale. For the first time in my life my goal is to feel stronger and healthier overall and the fact that after two months of working out with these two I feel comfortable in tank tops for the first time is just a bonus.

    Thank you so much for this video! I've been slowly discovering how to be a moderate, balanced intuitive eater and it's really helpful to hear this kind of message after years of being told restriction was the only way (leading to some really disordered eating thoughts that I'm now working to overcome). I love that you talked about how exercise isn't all or nothing and that listening to your body is the most important thing. It wasn't until I switched my mindset to doing what feels good when it feels good and not worrying about calories burned or perfection that I started to enjoy and love moving my body.

    Kelli,
    I completely admire your sincerity in your advice to not obsess over eating or working out, and I agree with you on this issue. However, whenever you talk about your weight loss journey, you never talk about how specifically you lost the weight. Yes, you talk about how (currently) you probably consume over 3,000 calories of whole, healthy foods. But what about those of us who are trying to lose weight? Not for an unrealistic Instagram body, but for our health. I know that at my weight, I cannot realistically lose the weight I need to lose by eating 3,000 calories, even in whole foods. There needs to be a calorie, or energy, or any kind of deficit created. Maybe your current diet works for someone at a higher fitness level whose only goal is to maintain their weight, but what advice to you have for those of us who need to really reduce our eating? Yes, we should listen to how we feel, and yes, we should be feeding our bodies the best ingredients we can find, but for people like me, the reason I am in this position in the first place is because I have not learned to listen to my body telling me it is full, or that certain foods are not good for my health. "Diets" or "meal plans" offer a sort of guideline, a starting point, that many of us need.
    I can only speak for myself in my experiences. I am on week 4 of the 8 week challenge for busy people, and I feel so much stronger and better, but without a guideline, I am sincerely struggling. I would love for you to do an actual video, an actual timeline of what you eat in a day, of what somebody could eat for a month or two months or a year to lose weight. A sustainable lifestyle change that can serve as a guideline for myself and others.
    Thank you so much for all the work you do

    I have to be firm with myself. I have to ask myself "will this bring me closer to or further from my goal?" because I spent far too long with poor habits and over eating. I will not go back to that place because it was horrible and I felt awful. I love my healthy lifestyle for how it makes me feel and that is worth more than the momentary happiness that indulging would bring me.

    I am very similar to you, Kelli! Mostly the same whole foods each week, and roughly 4-5 workouts per week varying from 25-75min, predominantly strength training, with an occasional cardio day. I am not a big eater compared to some, and even with three healthy meals and a few snacks/day I know I'm in a caloric deficit based on the training I do and my anixety-driven metabolism, so over the last year I've limited my cardio to avoid caloric deficits and have put on 5lbs of lean muscle.
    I'm content with my body and how I feel, but I do definitely have weak/sluggish days where I can't push myself, then other days where I feel physically fine and just need to push through any "mental exhaustion", which takes practice, but I've been at it for years and I think the key is to know the difference between not wanting to workout because of irrelevant life factors (depression, in my case), and physically not feeling capable of working out or knowing I have not fueled my body adequately in the last 12 hours to subject it to a workout. That's a big thing too, making a mental note: "Did I eat enough of the good stuff in the last X hours to have the ability to get through ______ routine?".
    As for when I cancel or skip a day, it's generally related to muscle fatigue/soreness. If, for example, I am too sore to complete a full set of deadlifts, I know I need to give my body time to rest. Soreness is the body's way of communicating it needs to heal, so I VERY rarely push through that unless it's ONE specific muscle group (like calves) where I can just cut jumps and modify to not stress those muscles, or work another group entirely. There are some days where my arms are so sore that I can't manage to hold weights for a proper leg routine, which either means I can try bodyweight leg, cardio, or a core routine.

    As a public health professional and person who is careful about my weight (which is considered normal/average/healthy), I 100% agree! While I won't be super fit or stick thin, I believe that the healthy choices I make MOST of the week allow me to LIVE and experience good foods that I also enjoy, but in moderation. I also value keeping up a routine that I know I can do for life. If I WANTED to go full force, I'd lose a few more pounds, but once I quit that full force lifestyle, I know I'd gain it back. Everything I do, I want it to be sustainable. Eating kale? Gross. Not sustainable. Making veggie soup? Total yum and I love it = sustainable. Running? Not for me. Long walks? Awesome and sustainable! :) THANK YOU for speaking the truth!

    Moderation is so so important, when i was in high school i used to workout 6 to 7 times a week for at least 30 minutes, i'd do the 1000 calorie workout challenge and tough workouts like that on the weekends. But since i got to college, i did my best to keep up with my old working out pace but it just wasn't possible, i ended up working out for barely 3-5 times 35 minutes max, campus is huge (a lot of walking around) plus getting there and coming back and the actual study was so so overwhelming! I got seriously frustrated and sometimes depressed by that. Only this year, (two years later) i realized that i was pushing waaay too hard, that i was putting way too much pressure on my body and mind, because this is college and not high school, and so now i'm aiming for 3-5 times a week, and i found myself being a lot more persistent and strong with this pace, so yeah, i just wanted to say that, in case someone else could use it.
    Love u Kelli!

I still f*cking hate eating clean. The happiest I've been around food in the past 6 years of my life is during the holiday season where I ate whatever the f*ck I wanted and barely worked out ever. YariGlows215 :( maybe it's the food you're eating ? If you aren't already, try to eat more vegetables (generally less calories) there are many recipes where you can cook them in a healthy way that tastes good. Trying to add some healthy vegan and vegetarian meals into your diet as well is also something you can do. I think you need to work on your relationship with food so that it isn't always a bad experience to eat. I used to have similar issues and it was horrible, I'm sorry that you're going through this 🌼

    This is sooo true! I really look forward to exercising with you guys and I try to do 5-6 a week and I still beat myself if I miss one but this video really helped me to understand that it's ok to miss a workout if I don't feel 100% I don't know what I would do without you! I send you kisses on every "workout complete" I love you guys!

    You have no idea how much I needed to hear this. I was flat out after a really tough day of work and struggling with being unable to get enough sleep the last week for various reasons. I passed out and nearly slept right through the time I normally work out. And I was feeling so guilty for thinking skipping a day that I forced myself to go through a workout and in more pain and with a horrible headache.
    I felt so discouraged after I finished, but hearing what you said in this video motivated me again.
