Bonnie Bartlett is such a wonderful actress and I have been a fan for years. This is a very moving episode. Just such a good job by all of the actors. Thanks Judy for everything 🌸
Hi Judy, the Walton's has always been one of our favorite television shows. Only the Andy Griffith show is an equal. Hearing your commentary and remarks about this episode is such a joy. Our children were very young when the Walton's first aired. My wife and I were in our mid 20s back then. You must be mighty proud of playing such a key role in the Walton's.
I'm 51 and watched The Waltons as kid with my mom and dad. I haven't watched the show in many years. My dad has dementia and my sisters and brother and I take turns going over my dads to sit and visit for a while. My dad and his girlfriend watch the Waltons everytime I'm over there. I'm literally addicted to the show again and even record it so I don't miss a show. Its the best show still to this day. I hope one day I can go see the Waltons house. Thank you all for a GREAT family show. God bless u all.

My Great-uncle had a " John-boy" car and it was that tan color.. one day when we were visiting he called my name and invited me to take a ride in that car. One problem--+ he took his dog with him ! ! Sooooo I got to ride in the rumble seat ! ! ! !☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ What fun🎼🎶🎶☺️☺️
Thank you again for the behind the scenes. Bonnie Bartlett also did a great job on Little House On The Prairie as Grace where she ends up marrying Mr Edwards (Victor French)
What a great episode for showing two sides of a situation. John Boy was upset about not getting the car after all the hard work he did, and the man didn’t want to give up the car due to the loss of his son. Glad it all worked out in the end
Thank you for all the inside stories of the filming of the series. I watched it with my grandparents when it first aired and now am watching it with my granddaughter! 5 generations and hopefully more to follow!
I remember the emotion that Mr. Rudge attached to his son's car, almost as if he was betraying his son by selling it. John Boy always had the sensitivity to feel another person's heartache. Perhaps he painted the car so that Mr. Rudge wouldn't feel badly when he saw John Boy driving it. It's anyone's guess. Thanks for this episode.
I just saw this episode today. John Boy spoke of painting the car long before he knew the story of the Rudge's son. I seem to remember hearing at some point that it was because they had to use different cars.
Just watched Vertigo (Hitchcock movie) and recognized Ellen Corby as the Manager of McKittrick Hotel. I also saw her as Ms. Davis in It's a Wonderful Life. That gal must have stayed busy back in the day.
And just like that, I've come to the end of Season 2, Judy! And still learning new things with every one of your videos! I like hearing about the sets and where things are filmed - when I'm watching, I NEVER give it a thought that a lot of things are sets or fake and NOT real places! Another fine episode! I always wondered if they changed the color to make it more recognizable in wide shots in other episodes. So many of the cars were black, dark blue or dark green. In any wide shots with other vehicles you could always pinpoint John-Boy’s car! Loved that Grandma wanted to ride in rumble seat - sweetest smile when she got in car and Grandpa helping and telling her to enjoy and remember her girlhood!! ❤️
She is great I love her so much. I remember gathering as a family every week to watch The waltons in the seventies. Every story seemed to have a life lesson and not one ounce of Filth.

Good morning Judy. Thanks for the up close look at the car episode. Bonnie Bartlett went on to be a regular on little house on the prairie. She played the role of Grace Snider. Have a great fourth of July and thank you!🎆🎇
Bonnie Bartlett was incredibly popular during the 50's as a major CBS-TV star on "Love of Life" portraying Vanessa Dale. She would have easily won a Daytime Emmy if those had existed at the time.

Great video, Judy! Thanks! I remember my first car; it was a 1988 dark red four door Honda Civic. It had black accents and some puddy colored trim on the inside of the car. Everyone complimented me on that car when I got it and it was still new! It lasted over fifteen years, too. I had a silver Toyota Corolla and now I’m on my second Honda Civic-dark blue and again a lot of people like the car. I’m a single man but I like four door sedans anyway. Another great episode. I just love the inside scoop! I have watched actors hold their hand on a light switch and get a chuckle out of it when the light goes on too soon or too late. Of course that never happened on the Waltons! Grandma was so cute in the rumble seat. I just saw her on a movie with Joan Crawford where she plays a young housekeeper or cook and gets fired. She was so sweet. I loved that they continued to use "John-Boy's" car throughout the series. It was almost like a cast member, as was the old green truck which I missed after they got the new station wagon.
Loved this one. Moving peas and fake rocks! So fascinating hearing all of the behind the scenes info. Even hearing about not switching the light switch too quickly. You are great and know your stuff!
Another thing I loved about the Walton's were the old cars and trucks. Especially John Boy's car and Johns truck that he hauled lumber with. Another great episode of the Walton's. Thanks Judy!
The backstory in this episode was very powerful - The Rudges had lost their only son in a naval accident - this car had belonged to their son and Mr. Rudge couldn't bear to let it go. It was touching the way John Boy helped him "heal" from that, I thought. ❤ I've seen this episode sooo many times and never made the connection between the debris in the Walton's yard being the result of the same storm that caused the damage to The Rudge's yard. Duh! Makes perfect sense- thanks for pointing that out, Judy! ☺️

Judy i love when they're talking about the car and how hyder is acting funny about letting john boy see it and little jim bob says maybe there's a machine gun in the rumble seat left over from a bank robbery. The early episodes had so many cute moments with jim bob and elizabeth. I also love on the episode the townie jim bob takes care of a baby duck and names it jim bob junior.
Thank you Judy for going into such detail on what takes place in filming. It's great knowledge for us fans. The opening music to The Walton's is loved so much. Perhaps you could talk about this music and intro music in The Homecoming when you are all carrying wood to the house. That's a great tune too. My real life sister's name is Mary Ellen.
Yay! It is Thursday & you are sharing with us such interesting details! This is either good news or regretful news.....I do notice differences of positions of people & things from shot to shot on TV & movies.... not always, but mostly. Most interesting! The scenes of the family gather around the radio in the living room triggers memories for me. We had a floor model radio, and we gathered around to listen to such things as Amos and Andy, George Burns, and Gracie Allen, the Lone Ranger, the shadow.
Judy, you are still as beautiful today as you were when the Walton's premiered. Thank you for this channel. Your voice is so soothing and your presentations are really wonderful.
That was a very grown up episode for Richard - I had tears...Judy, I don't know as you'll see this comment but I wanted to let you know that when I open my new hospice here in Cali, I will have purchased all the seasons of the Waltons for my children's media room.
I loved how they were able to turn their feeling around through the kindness John Boy had for them that allows them to open up reminding them of times with their son. Judy you are right I didn't notice that Grandpa had the peas and next it was on the table I am going to be sure to look for that next time. I love how you take the time to explain all the directing aspects of the show I just always thought the lights were all connected and you all didn't have to think about it and just turn the light off. I was only a part of one Movie my daughter was in when she was about 10 and I remember it took hours just to get the lighting just right for a scene that was only 15 minutes. I just saw this episode today. John Boy spoke of painting the car long before he knew the story of the Rudge's son. I seem to remember hearing at some point that it was because they had to use different cars.
Mr. Rudge was devastated by the loss of his beloved son, that was his treasured car, so naturally it was very hard for him to give it up.
Then do not have John Boy do the work on your property!
I thought maybe that was why they painted it. So it wouldn't remind them of their son if they saw it on the road.

@@ME-mq2ub aww thanks! Yep. So THANKFUL to be able to enjoy a clean, wholesome, uplifting show like The Walton's... over and over again!! ☺️
Glad to be of help :)
@@kareendelconte I find just about nothing of interest on TV today. It seems like people have completely run out of ideas. As part of my daily routine I put on my cable station that runs the Waltons from 9 am until 1 o’clock. I have it on in the background even if I’m doing something else at the time. Always wished I had grown up in a family like that, I wouldn’t be such a messed up person today! LOL ☺️💕
@@valeriejoylauria8944 I know what you mean about nothing new (or very uplifting)on TV these days! I, too, record The Waltons from both the cable stations that are currently airing it. Like you, I put it on - even if it's just in the background. I'll bet you're not as "messed up" as you think you are. ❤❤❤
Yes, many sweet moments in the episode.
It is a great episode and I thank you so much for doing these videos Miss Judy. 👍🏻😘
My pleasure
This episode was the best one in my opinion.
So glad you enjoyed this episode.
Yes, the music really adds such beauty to the episodes. Say “hi” to Mary Ellen from me :)
Yay! It is Thursday & you are sharing with us such interesting details! This is either good news or regretful news.....I do notice differences of positions of people & things from shot to shot on TV & movies.... not always, but mostly. Most interesting! Again, I thank you, Judy, for sharing with us. I enjoy the reruns all the more😊
So glad to hear you are watching and enjoying
I always thought John-Boy made a mistake painting the car "a dignified shade of tan". It looked better in the original blue.
I always thought the same thing. Even my Cousin thought so too. .
Me too. I liked the dark blue color.
Anything but that tan 😄🚗
So did I.
The dark blue looked more sharp
Thanks for sharing Behind the Scenes of the Walton's.
Thanks again Judy!
Thank you for addressing the car/color issue! It’s never made sense how a family in the Depression would pay to paint a car… or why! 🤷🏻♂️
I think even to the viewer the memory of the cars roots would be distracting when watching the show. The car had to be painted
Hoping I can find an answer for that question.
I never gave it a thought.
I love the vehicles in the Waltons.... , Thankyou Judy 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for putting this up I love EVERYTHING you do I grew up watching The Waltons.
Oh wow, thank you.
The scenes of the family gather around the radio in the living room triggers memories for me. We had a floor model radio, and we gathered around to listen to such things as Amos and Andy, George Burns, and Gracie Allen, the Lone Ranger, the shadow.
How wonderful.
I'm nearly 66 now, I remember my first car, a 1957 English Ford consul. It's a special memory. I can relate to this episode.
That’s so cool.
Judy, you are still as beautiful today as you were when the Walton's premiered. Thank you for this channel. Your voice is so soothing and your presentations are really wonderful.
Wow, thank you!
That was a very grown up episode for Richard - I had tears...Judy, I don't know as you'll see this comment but I wanted to let you know that when I open my new hospice here in Cali, I will have purchased all the seasons of the Waltons for my children's media room.
Wow, thanks for being a loyal fan. I hope they enjoy them!
One of my favorite episodes of the Waltons the tan suited John Boy better as a college student 😃👍
I have a greater appreciation for all the effort that went into this endeavor. Simply wonderful.😀
Thank you. I’m glad it was helpful.
Loved the look of this episode. It looks like fall, it feels like fall, marvelous.
Glad you enjoyed it.
One of my favorite episodes.
Wonderful.
I liked the way Johnboy made a deal to get the car, a lot of hard work but it paid off, keep the videos coming
Glad you enjoyed
It is really neat how you learned to adapt to everything! I love how it is so realistic, like you were actually in a real house 😊.
The magic of television.
Thanks for sharing 👍. You're doing a phenomenal job sharing the regales and historical moments of the Waltons.
Simply awesome!
Thank you so much.
I don't know how you did it your Amazing! Thank you Judy have a great 4th of July!! Kathy
Thanks so much. Glad you are enjoying
St. Elsewhere was ground breaking, and set the bar high for future medical shows. Another wonderful video. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos.
Thanks for watching.
She is still beautiful, the prettiest older sister..😀
Love these videos, brings back wonderful memories of my youth watching the show.
So glad you enjoy them.
I’m really enjoying your uploads. Your insights are fascinating. 😎
I appreciate that!
John boys car is my favorite car on the series!! Just like grandma I would have liked to ride in the rumble seat too😊
Such fun.
