- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is pretty much my game of the year at the moment and ever since I beat it, I thought a weapon-less challenge run could be possible. So in this video I decide to find out, can you beat the game without pressing Y?
this totk challenge run has taken me over 2 weeks to film and put together and I did all of it while sick. I still am. this is my excuse for having a bad script read.

The fact nobody realizes all of the boxes at monster camps have an absurd number of arrows is insane to me. I have like 400 arrows and I’ve never bought any
I didn’t really interact with those camps very often and I had maxed out arrows by my third dungeon. Just break every crate you come across, and you’ll have more arrows than you’ll ever need.
An even better way is just doing the floating collouseum with the Lynel killer thing
fr bruh i killeed like 20 lynals and im ad 800 arrows
@@cheeesybread5594 theres probably more arrows in the game since there making up for the fact there are not elemental arrows and there is now fusing
if you're good at lynel fights the Floating colleseum gives you like 200+ arrows per gauntlet. Easily maxed out arrows while farming up parts to upgrade the barbarian armor.
Fun fact nobody mentions, Tulin's draft can be used much like Yunobo's where you can aim it on the ground and blow away sand piles or.... anything that can be blown away, really.
Including your rare items off a cliff
like a frozen boko boss, into water!

This ending feels just like the Breath of the Wild without stamina run that fails because Dark Beast Ganon's final hit has to be in bullet time
Unless you do what Limcube did and kill Dark Beast Ganon with a sword beam instead

This is actually really refreshing. So many challenge runs set up such fun limitations id love to see tested in the dungeons. But most of them just go straight from the great sky island to the final boss which is boring as hell
For the construct in the boss rush, you can stun it with a fire arrow and throw it against the wall by using Yunobo's ability ;)

You can also use the lightning arrows from riju then hit it with yunobo thats how i beated it because my first playtrough is skipper the 5th sage
Or you could just throw a bomb to stun it too.

You can apparently trap Ganondorf in the inverse circle blocks that you use while getting one of the pieces of Mineru's mech
It's the one block that doesn't get broken by any of his attacks. Coincidentally, it is also the only block in the game that you can generate with Autobuild and not have it dissolve

11:20 It's possible to use Sidon's ability without pressing "Y". Any weapon with a "projectile component" (ex: Cannon Clubs, Magic Rods, Master Sword, Sidon's Ability, etc.), throwing a weapon with "R" actually aims the projectile, without throwing the weapon.
Edit: After reading the comments, I guess this doesn't matter if you weren't planning on using Melee weapons anyways, but it is a loop hole to the challenge.

In my opinion, duping items in a single-player open world game isn't cheating, it's just playing how you wanna play.
I think you should only do glitches once you have beat the game unless the glitch doesn’t benefit you in battle or story
@@coltnigh308i think it is up to the player but glitches can help a lot. dupes especially as many people don’t like grinding for materials
For the construct fight, spike balls appear during the fight so you could have just fused a rocket to Minerus hand and beat the boss with the same attachments. The arena also has canons which can be used to take down the construct during second phase when he is in the air.

You can actually start the spirit temple quest early, if you have enough hearts to open the gate. I'm about halfway through the video at the time of writing this, so if you ended up doing this and I'm just stupid, I apologize. Regardless, you've done a wonderful job making this video entertaining, especially for it's length. Well done!
Edit: I unpaused the video after making this comment and you IMMEDIATELY explained how you can go to the spirit temple, whoops.
water temple could of been possible, considering the master sword is REQUIRED and WILL end up in your inventory, picking it up before the last fight and using the throw attack to use sidons ability you could beat the entire dungeon without pressing Y. sure it sucks cuz you need to upgrade your stats but a good way around this is after youre done with the spirit temple, go to the dark statue and switch off your hearts to stamina, this satisfies the minimal shrine run while also satisfying the no pickup swords rule since you know youre gonna end up with the master sword anyways. good run tho
This game has been put for less than a month and you already managed to complete an insane challenge run of it, well done. (Also I now see in my play through I did everything in the wrong order cause I never saw that meeting with Bularia cause I wasn’t wondering the desert and just stumbled upon Riju, as well as just randomly finding mineru after that cause I saw a giant lighting cloud and got curious)

You can actually complete the water temple, just use the throw button instead and it'll shoot out Sidon's attack without having to press y.

Reminds me of all the "can you beat all of botw with no weapons/only shields/only runes/etc" challenges people did where they'd find all these clever solutions to problems, overcome every curve ball the game threw their way, before concluding, no, because you're forced to use the light bow
Fun fact, you don't need to use the master sword to kill the final boss, laser arrays still damage his weak spots.
So the master sword is technically unneeded.

I’m not sure if this would’ve killed it, but in the beginning in the fuse shrine, you could’ve attacked the captain construct by throwing a fire fruit on the ground because of all the dry leaves on the floor
You could have killed it by throwing fire fruit at it anyway I believe but then I'd have to find a way past the stone walls without it

I didn't know you could get rid of the clouds until I finished the game . Also tulips ability can ger rid of sand plus you can use splash fruit for the mucktorok

yeah, its also really interesting to see how one original idea (no weapons run) evolved into two separate ones (smant with no shield and bows, me with no y button)

I straight up accidentally stumbled upon the Spirit Temple by deciding to explore the Sky Islands with the giant storm and just kinda fumbled my way to a big story sequence. Was lowkey bummed out I missed a portion of the story -- I had beat the game before finishing the spirit temple story 🤣

27:35 is the exact kind of shenanigans why I absolutely adore this game XD and as for duping... I think creating more of things you have access to is fine, because you could do that same thing without glitches, just much slower - would be different if you cheated in a second copy of a thing you're supposed to have only one of, but duping bombs and diamonds is just collecting bombs and diamonds...faster. That's how I see it.
Fun fact when you are under one of the pillar that gives light in the depths you can do whatever you want your durability on your weapons or sheild won't go down so it's really usefull when duplicating stuff

I, also, didn't know about it. By the time I got to the Wind Temple... I already settled on using duplicated bomb arrows to solve basically any problem I was faced with. Especially. Those. Damn. Gloom. Hands.

You can get to the spirit temple without the quest, it’s just harder because the storm really blocks your view. I did this, and didn’t even know the quest was a thing
I like how he completely changed the challenge to an impossible one when he could've simply made a "no new weapons run"

Though in that rule you could get the Earthwake ability from the Yiga
But you could still throw Chuchu Jellies or Waterplants at the Boss
Hey dude! Great video, you pretty much pulled off the whole thing besides the last part. But I actually found a way to beat it without pressing Y! If you use the gamecube controller, the B button takes the place of the Y button. See where I'm going with this? If you go back to your last save file, hook up your GameCube controller, and beat the game. Great job and your welcome!
One note. When you drop ur creations off a ledge (such as at 7:55) you can use recall to bring them back
i did try that but it was too far away for recall to even find the path
You know, there aren’t a lot of RUclipsrs who will straight up say “killed a hinox with a penis” most of them would refer to it as “a certain male body part” or “dick” but never the real name, for some damn reason, referring to a penis as “a penis” makes people more uncomfortable than saying vulgar things, but still, i love how you can beat monsters with your meat in this game.

Wait so whats the difference between doing the spirit Temple early or after all the dungeons? I found it early and made my way to the fog so I thought it was like any other dungeon that you could do immideatly
My favorite part 27:12 because you have to use those logs to build a really long bridge just to get cross to the other side to head to the boss fight like that since you can't press the y button for the rocket to get on the other side to head to the boss

Yo I have a question, how do you get the footage onto RUclips into more than 30 second, also in the boss rush, if you died did you get reset to muktorok
i dont know what you mean by the first question but i had to redo the whole fight once i died to mucktorok
Question: how do you juggle multiple save files in this game without overwriting your first file with both manual saves and auto saves?
A tip that probibly would have really helped is that during the gannon fight, or actually any fight
If you climb on your construct and the jump off right after you can get bullet time very very easily along as your carefull
i think the duping segment in the video demonstrates how careful i was with this challenge

The water temple, as far as I know, is completely possible within the rules of this challenge as you can hold R to throw a weapon, which can use Sidon's ability. If that's confusingly worded then it's what was done at the beginning of the game when the vines were broken using the decayed master sword.

In the fuse shrine you can fuse a boulder to your shield and parry at the rock wall to break it. Though, you didn’t have a shield soooo-
Those second I saw this title made me know it’s impossible because you have to do the “final attack” for demon dragon
I'm surprised not many people know about activating Zonai Devices by throwing something (like Apples) to your device/vehicle. Once I figure that out, no more accidentally breaking wooden contraptions and a lot of arrows and weapon durability saved.
I don’t think you even need to pick up the master sword at the end
There is a way to use Sidon's ability without using Y. Drop a weapon, pick it up, press R and release
Edit: on a closer look, just pressing R is enough to unsheathe your weapon so yeah, just press R

Sidon fact: you can use his ability by throwing away your weapon with the R button, sidon will use his ability without losing your weapon.
Had a self imposed challenge to not pick up any weapons
i tried to challenge myself by not using the bow, not wearing clothes except for headwear, not using the gumball machines, not upgrading the battery, not obtaining any blessings besides the very first one. I was still allowed to get the heart containers from bosses and the poe statue. I still wanted to do all the bosses and play most of the main parts of the game. It was really fun but when i got to the zora place i couldn't see how to get to the water temple without shooting the scale through the droplet, i tried attaching and throwing it but it dident work so i allowed that single arrow, but then I got to gerudo place and i had to use arrows to help the one girl with her training and then again to defend that area and i'm not sure but it was looking like i would not be able to enter the city or at least the shelter area without putting on clothes and It just turned me off of the experience and since then I lent my system to my sister to play. I'll get over it and continue eventually begrudgingly. I would like for them to add some custom game modes such as, you can't use any weapons but you have unlimited zonai devices, that would be amazingly fun, even if they just gave us a ton of options to mix and match and let us go wild even if they might not be possible, then we could provide feedback and they could issue a patch that changes minor elements for different combinations to make them possible. There's a million other things i'd like even more but in the spirit of this video's subject i'll keep it at that.
what i want most is for them to ad a robust layering of roguelite elements, as well as allot of work on fleshing out the depths, and just generally many infinitely renewing systems of progression like randomly generated traversal puzzles and redistributable randomly located collectibles, and i have many very lfeshed out ideas about what those could be they could for the most part implement using existing assets in more interesting ways.
I did the spirit temple before I got all the avatars. I just used a hover bike to fly up there. I didn’t even know there was a quest with the ring ruins to get you up there
I haven't watched the entire video so I don't know if you found this but there is a very simple way to do damage: fuse a weapon to your shield and parry (no y press necessary.)
Edit: literally did that 2 minutes after continuing to watch :)
yeah but i found that, in my opinion, using a shield to block potential damage was better than using it to deal damage
If you want to be able to do more you could possibly use the yiga ability you can get (not sure if this counts tho)
I didn't even know earthwake existed when doing the challenge but that uses the y button so I wouldn't be able to use it anyway

There’s a neat trick in the wind temple where the third turbine ( that you did ) can be hit through the gate without doing the puzzle, which I discovered because I’m too stupid to do the puzzle
one of my friends did that in their initial playthrough but didnt tell me which turbine it was, so i just did all of them normally

One of the things that always struck me about this game is how ultrahand is much less whippy than its magnesis predecessor. I think Nintendo wanted to encourage players to actually use weapons.

The rock gohma fight is intended to use yonobu even when hes on the ceiling. The room is spherical on purpose so you can just throw him out and he will continue to do damage and knock gohma down
he doesnt actually do damage when breaking gohma's legs, so i just didn't bother
7:57 here you could’ve used recall to bring the balloon back and then gotten back onto it and it would’ve floated up to where you wanted to go.

So you CAN use Sidons wave by using the R button. If it counts for those early vines then I think this would be a solution. Good job on the vid tho

I'm pretty sure, just like the master sword beam slash, you can do a throw action to create a water slash where you wanted it.

You can go through the bottom of the d segments for the colters fight

Dunno if someone mentioned it or if you figured out later, but you can just throw an apple (or whatever really) to turn on zonai devices
I’m pretty sure you can use aidons ability by holding the throw button and instead of throwing your weapon it will be an aimed burst of water. I personally haven’t tested it in the temples but maybe someone else has and can confirm
yeah you can, but i didnt have weapons so i couldnt do it
riju helped a ton with the construct, but it makes me wonder if you could just pull out some carts and push the construct away to the ropes while it's stunned / frozen
2:50 no, it does have enough, Ultrahand just doesn’t allow things (that require speed to do damage) while it’s mid use. Rewind allows these to do damage as they aren’t actually under Ultrahand. Also, you could’ve just put the boulder over and dropped it on the construct
For Sidon’s ability you can throw your weapon with r and it will shoot the water blade thing

Fun fact you can actually use Sidon's ability by instead of pressing Y, you instead try to throw your weapon as if it was the master sword for a beam, so you actually can do the water temple without pressing Y, you just need to have a weapon though
