    Just wanted to say great video. I see a few people defending their actions. This has been an extremely big issue in the transformers comunity too with hasbros factories. If lego catches a wiff of this they may close down the factory entirely and everyone will loose there jobs. This is based on how hasbro operates at least. I remember Protoman of tfslag podcasts doing a great video on it a few years ago too.

      Thank you! That's really sad to hear. I wasn't aware that was happening with Hasbro as well. Let us hope that does not occur because that would punish the employees who are not taking part in this.
      Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!

    About 5 years ago, I began seeing those so-called "prototype" monochromatic minifigs popping up on eBay. I thought they were a really cool, fun novelty and that the transparent ones would make awesome holo or ghost figs. None of them were over $25 at the time, so I started buying certain ones in colors that I'd like. Later, as I researched them, rumors began appearing that they were illegally produced in the Mexican factory and smuggled out to be sold on the sly. Having already bought maybe a dozen of them, I abruptly stopped buying them.

    I don't want to encourage theft either, because I understand the perspective of a business owner. I like to consider both sides. Employee theft is happening all over American fast food. Managers know employees aren't paid enough, so they look the other way. The food is so cheap and bad now, food "going missing" doesn't even ruin food cost numbers. Corporate wants low % labor. I have to imagine someone in management is perhaps getting a cut. Lego is not helping themselves with CMF games and Star Wars minifigs locked behind giant sets. This is what a world looks like when everyone is out for themselves and many people are desperate.

    There are also a number of QC rejects for sale. I think Bricksie bought boxes of brittle green plates. Also, just gonna say that Lego scalpers (err investors) do more harm to this hobby than the issue you're talking about

  • @jimm244

    Thank you for adding comments on the morality of this issue. Sadly it’s necessary when other LEGO misfluencers are on record effectively saying, “It doesn’t matter to me if the 12000 4x4 green plates I sourced from a single seller were looted or not…I got a great deal!”
    Given how stupid the collectors market is for Minifigs, it doesn’t surprise me this is happening. Personally I’m not happy with LEGO’s trend toward making collectibles instead of toys; I’m still happy with a plain white and red space minis-that’s a side issue.
    One thing you left out: regardless of the actions taken for remediation, it will cost TLG money. That will be passed on to all of us through increased prices.

    • @lcw.productions
      @lcw.productions  7 дней назад

      @@jimm244 thank you so much for taking the time to comment. And yes all of this is going to have a cost to the Lego group and us the consumers. I believe that the way to handle this is not to call out sellers or punish them, but to encourage those who are taking part in this to make the right choice without a spotlight on them to do the right thing.
      Thank you!

    Great Video! It’s definitely insane that a lot of the LEGO Factory Employees have gotten away with stealing so many Minifigures!

    • @Nphen
      @Nphen День назад +1

      I've been looking at comments and thinking about what I heard in the video. My guess is that Lego is getting tax write-offs for the missing & stolen goods, and the employees are working extra hard to keep the place running smoothly so they don't get caught. Lego has high profits right now, meaning tax write-offs are worth a lot more than if they were barely getting by or losing money. Before the pandemic and labor shortages, this kind of "look the other way" behavior was not tolerated at big companies. I see it in other places. I came to Lego because I was sick of the dead-end of politics, but, this is what late stage capitalism looks like.

    This is the longest video I have ever seen to say "I'm a narc and I think Lego's pricing strategies are fair". Firstly, let's look at a couple things here. Why are the workers stealing from the factory in the first place? Because Lego isn't paying them enough not to steal. This is the classic moral conundrum of "Is it okay to steal a loaf of bread to feed my family?" In that case, I think it is definitely fine to steal bread to feed your family. That is exactly what these Meixco factory workers are doing. Lego has the money, they're a $13 billion company. No worker for a company that big should have to feel like they need to steal scraps to survive. Second, yeah, Rex was available a couple weeks beforehand, and that's not fantastic. But what the problem with Rex was in the first place was he was locked behind a $650 set. No matter how you slice it, locking $5-$6 worth of a figure behind a $650 is borderline criminal. Your upcoming example of the UCS Jango Fett will also be a highly sought after figure locked behind a (maybe) $250 set and that's also not good. Fact of the matter is, not everyone can afford these things properly so yeah, I might buy just the minifig. If it comes from Mexico, oh well, I live in Arizona, that'll be pretty fast shipping, I guess. If Lego was more committed to putting these figures in more affordable sets, think $150 or less, then there would be very little need to even have this conversation. At the end of the day, this is all 100% on Lego and the fans and Bricklink sellers even have nothing to do with it. Lego has all the cards and could play the correct ones at any time, and they are refusing to because they have some kind of reason that doesn't make sense. Maybe they like the attention the Mexico factory brings them? Maybe it's so little within their margin of error that instead of a 3% difference as expected, they have a 4% difference, but they already factor in their numbers with an expectation of 10%, they wouldn't care at all then. These aren't set figures, you said as much yourself, these are essentially, factory rejects that are not going to get used anyway. There is literally no harm in any of this, except for the workers if they get punished.

      Lmao "not paid enough not to steal" You lost all credibility after such a foolish statement. This isn't starving people slaving around and stealing bread. These are thieves stealing from their employer and if they are working for Lego, even in a 3rd world country, believe me, you aren't starving.

    It's not an opinion. It is OBJECTIVELY wrong. With that said, I don't give a shit and I buy these minifigures off brinklink at a good price. It's LEGO's problem to figure out. And I don't think they care to figure it out because, while there is a lag, it increases the costs of production and LEGO will just pass the costs on to us with more expensive sets.

    Ofc, the biggest fault lies at the person stealing. But the other parts of the distribution chain are acting as fences, which is highly immoral as well and illegal. If a deal is too good to be true - there are usually a bunch of rotten apples in the basket. The consumers, according to economic laws have a hand in all this as well. If enough people walk over corpses to have the largest collections/do the most profit/ have the biggest army etc it will incentivize the entire chain of operations.
    Having a larger collection compared to your neighbor isn't a right, but there is a moral obligation to be an informed consumer and not support shady business practices.

      Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, I think you have a good point. But I think we can't start pointing fingers at consumers because we don't know who is selling them and who is not. But yes if we are informed we should make more educated purchasing decisions. Thanks again!

    • @lcw.productions
      @lcw.productions  6 дней назад

      Thank you for sharing your opinion. They are stealing it because it is not there to begin with. In the video I made sure to go over the definition of stealing. They are producing the product on behalf of the Lego company. But you are right in the sense that the Lego company can 'afford' to take the loss. I think it's important to note the monetary affects it has on the market rather than Legos profit margins.
      Thank you!
