The airlines purchased the 747's when ETOPS 180 wasn't around. Once it came in and the 777 was released, the airlines purchased the twins to replace the 747's. It would take a bit of time clearly. The 747's you see are probably 10+ years old.
Totally. I read a statistic somewhere that something like 75% of ALL the 747's ever made have visited Heathrow at least one time during the aircrafts life. Amazing!
Wow, nostalgia. Back then LHR was a 747 fest. Now, limited to no 747s at LHR and COVID has killed the airline industry. Bring back the memories to keep us going! ✈💯
The era of the controversial World Tails. I quite liked those, they gave each plane a kind of distinctive identity. Pity that it gave rise to the bland current livery. I mean look at the 747-400 @ 1:30: 'Water Dreaming'. How awesome that looks
Amazing to see how different the landscape was in 2000 from this vid; Lufthansa flew A310s here, United had 747-400s before downgrading to the 767 and only three airlines here have the same livery today.

The a380, a350, a330, a321, a320, b787, b777, b767, b737 and sometimes the rare ERJ 145 and very rare turboprop land st heathrow. What type landed then?
Man, those British Airways World Tails were just such a wonderful sight to look at. Shame that BA had to cave in to the whining of traditionalists like Thatcher and removed those colors so fast.
I think this was 2001 or 2002. G-TTIB is featured and she first flew 31/01/2001 being delivered to GB Airways (In BA Livery) on 27/07/2001 We also see 5Y-KQZ which first flew on 05/05/2001, delivered to Kenya Airways on 25/05/2001

The battleship grey livery on the United 747 and the world tails on the BA 747s were lovely. What an era! Back when the 747s ruled the skies :’)
The world tails was ugly as hell.
Agree,those tails were awful!!
The world of aviation is so much more colourful in the 1990s and 2000s. So many different jets and a wide diversity of sexy aircraft
Heathrow was like the natural habit of the 747 in the late nineties and early 2000's
Tokyo and hong kong was too :)

Absolutely
If it weren’t for covid, the 747 could’ve flown for another couple of years
@@united1super544 BA, QF and KL planned to keep them to 2021 (2023 for BA) just passed the 50 years the type in service, but COVID killed that
What a butter landing from that TAP Air Portugal
Even 21 years ago, Emirates were still using 777's.
Some things don't change 😂
Just realized the 777 then was younger then the 787 is now 😮
So many different aircraft and wonderful, colorful liveries... Missin those times

This came 20 years too early, fast forward today London is very multi cultural and the World Tails reflect just that
Love the battleship grey livery on United, especially on the 747
It’s nice seeing the old liveries once in a while…
The BA 777 in Landor actually looks really nice.
1:32 thats the same 747 that has been repainted in the Negus Retro Livery!
g-civb had chelsea rose
So good to see so many great older classics at LHR. Great vid!

6:15 I got to fly on that plane in 2019. Cool to see it with the old livery
Back when the boeing 747 jumbo jets were popular!!!
What’s popular now? Smaller planes?
Impressive crosswind approach by the BA 757 13:46!

The BA Landor 777 followed by the AA 777 were the best out of this bunch

British Airways 757 😍

All planes evolved somehow, but B747 still persists with its same old grace.

Never caught on to them honestly, just thought they ruined the plane. The 3 stripes on the tail really distinguishes the airline.
