    - December 1950: Sikkim signed the "India - Sikkim Peace Treaty" and became India's protectorate.
    - 1953: A state council was established to allow for the constitutional government of the Chogyal, which was sustained until 1973.
    - 1962: The Sino-Indian War took place, and India closed the Chumbi Valley, which reopened in 2006.
    - 1963: The ruler Tashi Namgyal passed away due to cancer.
    - 1965: The last hereditary ruler, Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal, ascended to the throne.
    - 1973: India took control of Sikkim and overthrew the monarchy.
    - April 1975: The Sikkim Parliament declared that the king had been officially deposed and announced that Sikkim had become a part of India through a referendum.

Why china want sikkim? Answer-China claims Sikkim as part of its territory, naming the region "South Tibet" or "Zangnan," due to the following reasons ¹ ² ³:
    - Historical ties: China claims historical connections between the Tawang monastery in Arunachal Pradesh and Lhasa monastery in Tibet.
    - Strategic location: Sikkim offers access to the high-altitude Doklam plateau, also known as Donglang, which is claimed by Bhutan. China's possession of this region would reduce the distance to the Siliguri Corridor, a vital passage connecting seven northeastern states, including Assam, to the rest of India.
    - Border security: Control of Sikkim would provide China a strategic advantage along the border, enabling it to counter Indian military formations in the northeast during a potential conflict.
    - Territorial expansion: China's claims on Sikkim align with its efforts to establish dominance along its borders and expand its territory whenever possible.
