    This is such a great cake. I make it at least twice yearly, usually at Easter and during summer. I add a teaspoon of orange flower water to the cake and another teaspoon to the powdered sugar glaze. It gives it a floral flavor that adds a nice quality to the cake. Che Bella la torta!

    My maternal grandparents were both Sicilian and we never had this cake BUT when I first started working in a professional kitchen (washing dishes/pots&pans in the kitchen of the Buffalo Playboy club after graduating high school and wasn't sure what to do with my life). I moved up to working pantry and one of the first desserts I wanted to make was some kind of orange cake. The head chef helped me a bit and guided me to finishing, wasn't bad but not exactly what I was expecting. Oddly enough, I never tried another orange cake recipe, though I made 100's of different kinds of desserts in my cooking career. I'm definitely going to try this recipe, maybe I will finally have the orange cake I wanted so many years ago.

    OMG I just found this video on your channel. This cake reminds me of my childhood. My Nonna is from Agrigento, Sicily, and she would make this cake every time for us when we were there. She uses the exact same recipe. Nonna would always make some holes all over the cake with a toothpick and then add the glaze, so that the glaze goes a little bit inside the cake too and make it super moist. Watching you guys make this cake makes me wanna go back to Sicily RIGHT NOW!!!!

    I made this cake today, followed the written directions exactly, and it turned out perfectly. My wife is one of those individuals who doesn't like anything that is overly sweet, so this pleased her to no end. Of course, I've learned from Eva's responses to many American dishes that she doesn't like foods to be overly sweet, so her advice was destined to be perfect for my wife and me and it was. The only thing wrong with the recipe as printed on the screen here, is that 1 tablespoon is NOT equal to 16 grams of baking powder. Further, the issue also needs to be addressed on the website as well, where it says to use 1 1/8 tablespoons. Using the traditional American measurement spoons, one cannot measure 1 1/8 tablespoons. That has to be converted. While my math is far from perfect, I see that as a tablespoon, a 1/4 teaspoon, and an 1/8 teaspoon in order to be accurate. Whether the amount of baking powder actually makes a difference or not, I have no idea. However, if you are a stickler for accuracy, you might want to go with my computation.

    • @PastaGrammar
      @PastaGrammar  2 года назад +2

      So glad you enjoyed the recipe! While spoons are really very imprecise, 1 tbsp of baking powder is around 13-14g. As you’ll notice in the video, we just rounded it to 1 tbsp which will work just fine. We only added the 1/8 after someone quibbled about the exact tbsp amount. Will update it because you’re right, it’s confusing. Long story short, 1 tbsp will work just fine.

    Made this right after I saw your video and it was fantastic! Only change was that I made it with two cara cara oranges in the batter, with whole wheat flour, and at 350(this part was a mistake because I misremembered) Thank you for the great recipe!

    That looks so good! When I make cut out cookies (not Christmas themed) I put concentrated OJ in the mix....its just better than orange flavoring. And I make the cookie icing with concentrated OJ as well.... so yummy ❤

    I make a similar one with exactly same procedure but grated carrots instead of the orange. I'll try this!!

    I am salivating. This looks good. I am sure the aroma made your lounge smell nice with the orange. Bless

    My mom always made orange cake but she just used the juice. I love this idea of blending the whole orange. Will try!😘
