My mum was the only one in our family that lived n breathed this show. Whenever this show came on it was like "disturb mum and may god have mercy on you"😅😅😅 honestly! It would be a suicide mission to disturb my mum when this show would come on lol... Now as I'm grown up, it's the only treasured memory I hold whenever I hear this! Thanks Shortland street!
Ireland showed it 5.20pm and I would watch it after school so would many in my school and we talked about it. Then they switched it to midday then between 11am and 11.50am. Could not watch it as on too early. Last year they brought it back to evening time. 5.30pm is shortland street, 6pm neighbours, 6.30pm home and away. They also show shortland street at midday. I watch it on RTÉ2+1 if I am home in time. We are so far behind, still on 2016 episodes. It is not popular here as shown at an awkward time and for years was on mid morning when most at school or work.
It’s very popular in Ireland actually. Debuted on RTÉ One in October 1997, airing weekdays at 5.30pm. Later moved to 4.50pm, then moved to mornings between 10:30am-12:00pm, with a repeat broadcast at 5:30pm on RTE Two. In August 2022, when Neighbours ceased, RTE moved Shortland Street to 2pm on RTE One, with a repeat screening at 6pm on RTE Two.
@@boldbeautifulau Actually Shortland Street for years had no evening showing but was on the middle of the night in repeat. I wonder what will happen it as Neighbours is back later this year and RTÉ will be showing. Will it go back to 5.30pm? Right now it is in the slots that were Neighbours. I know no one who watches Shortland Street except myself and I only watch it the odd time as not home most of the time in time to see the repeat. I don't think Shortland Street is popular here at all. Don't know why you think it is? When ant show in tv or radio talk about soaps they never mention Shortland Street. When you look up listings on Saorview and go into Shortland Street they don't want give you a few lines summary on what is happening in that episode of the show like they do for 98% of all other programmes on RTÉ1&RTÉ2.
@@thebigloc1trust me, if it wasn’t popular, RTE wouldn’t continue to buy the show. It’s been on RTE screens since 1997. When Neighbours returns in September 2023, RTE will likely move Shortland Street back to 5:30pm.
Funny to see this. I remember Shortland St being shown in the UK, but when I moved out to New Zealand I realised what a cultural institution it is here. Plus, it's funny to see that some cast members are still acting away after all these years!
I didn't realize Jango Fett was in Shortland Street, I knew I had seen that actor somewhere before but couldn't think where from, and it was Shortland Street I used to watch as a kid after CITV haha
Michael Gavin(Chris Warner) was so young back then? Angela Bloomfield(Rachel Mckenna) are the longest serving characters on the show Amazing.....addictive to some.. 23 years on...
Grampian tv took it but stv didnt. Grampian had it 3 days a week. Then a spell one summer when they showed it overnight 7 nights a week then it disappeared around the time stv bought grampian. Lucky if we got 500 episodes in the area
My view is GRANADA took over 70 percent of ITV by 2001 it had already axed it in Granada in 2000 to 2 episodes a week and treated it v badly by shunting iot to the later slot and putting a cheap programme in its place "Lunchtime live" simply awful it was i will never forgive Granada for taking it away from us with NO warning. then it ate up Meridian axing it completely only to retuen to once a week thyen Anglia lost it so ss live in peace i Granadaland

I live in the UK and used to watch Shortland street but it hasn't been shown here for about 10 yrs or so.
From the second version I believe this where the golden years of Shortland Street began.
You're right. We're not too far away from this in the classic episodes Shorty are uploading now, I believe.
Bring Shortland Street back to The United Kingdom!
The good old days of the show
The first few were the “lots of people walking past the camera and making busy-looking head movements”version.

I live in the Granada region.I know some regions have shown it at different times.
Shortland Street finished in the UK in August 2003.

Looking back on the early episodes via RUclips, it's basically the Young Doctors for the 1975 audience. (The band, not the year).

“7 nights a week” - I’ll bet money it wasn’t screened on weekends!!!
@@boldbeautifulau it was screened at around 4:20 am 7 nights a week finishing at ep 606 - have got the vcr’s to prove it
