City cleaning crews are faced with a daily mountain of trash on the sidewalks in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. Wilson Walker reports. (10-5-23)
Why do we fine the good citizens on everything and compromise the homeless or drug addicts for trashing the neighborhood snd not hold them accountable at all? This is so sick.
Just think for a second. What does a fine mean to someone that is homeless or an addict? They either have no money or just thinking about their next hit. Punitive measures are definitely a tool to curb crime, but it's only one tool, and often not the best one. You have to look at the problem in a more holistic manner.
Can you imagine the code violation fines a home owner would be charged with for throwing out all that stuff?...Yet they cater to these filthy people by cleaning up for them every day?...LOL
You can't get in trouble for open drug use, littering, shoplifting, or violent crimes. But possession of more than the minimum number of bicycles is a serious issue.
I've walked down Hyde street towards Market seeing crews cleaning out all the garbage only to walk back up an hour later and see the same block completely trashed like the cleanup never happened. It's absolutely disgusting. The block of Hyde street from Ellis to Eddy is particularly bad. There's a fencing operation on that black that takes in stolen goods, hordes of drug dealers, Harm reduction teams that hand out drug usage tools, as well as non profits giving out takeout meals. Those meals end up in a pile under a tree because most of these folks have more food than they know what to do with already. As long as addicts are free to openly use drugs on the street without oversight or consequence, there will be trash.
JamesDeWalt909, Alcohol didn't create this, drug enabling drug addiction most certainly did! WTF, not for profits delivering meals are you out of your minds! We are done!!!
JamesDeWalt909, Now you're putting words in my mouth (so to speak) that I didn't say. This story wasn't so much about alcoholics which is a serious disease as well, and is certainly known to cause homelessness and even kill, so let's agree with that Ok. Hope you are healthy and not struggling with an addiction.
@@JamesDeWalt909 This isn't an alcohol problem. It's a fentanyl and crystal meth problem. Making alcohol illegal would just fuel crime out of control. The prohibition didn't work, it created more crime. Drunk driving is already illegal and well enforced in SF, wtf are you even talking about?

I really appreciate people working hard to keep our city clean. But everyone needs to share in the responsibility. There is only so much Public Works crew can. There needs to be more education, campaigns, fines and enforcement of laws.

“ taking on the trash” should be a documentary about taking on San Francisco City Hall. San Francisco is so idiotic. Lived there for 24 years.
I would LOVE to see politicians volunteering for at least 2 hours to show they are willing to humble themselves and make their community better ... but is just a dream. that WILL NEVER happen.... politicians will through tax payers money at contractors and will never follow up to see where that money goes or if it's being well spent.... nah man ... worthless leaders have taken us here.
I do strata maintenance in Kelowna BC and have to clean up after them outside buildings constently shit piss graffiti you name it. Absolutely people leaving refundables or outreach people serving them breakfast lunch and dinner on wheels make it worse...what do you think happens after you give someone coffee 30 minutes later.
Punish the taxpayers! Non revenue arrests and fines would cost the city even more money to put the criminals in jail, trial, defense costs. Compassion is the cause not the cure!
They legit just hoard trash and other “possessions” and tweak out and leave it behind 😂
Housekeeping for derelicts .
Whats kinda weird is as soon as opiates , especially Fetenyl took charge, every thing is a mess, wasn't like that ten , twenty yrs ago .
Litterbugs should be given a fine for littering in public places.
They should rename sf poopertino.
Where are all the recycling centers?
The most SF pic I have is someone giving a ticket for an expired parking meter while two people inject drugs next to the parking meter.
The sad thing is as hard as they work to clean up a few hours later trash will be right back on the ground
Thank you for cleaning
I am TIRED of "living with it"
Give the bill to the judge
Obombya is proud
Add flowers in the attic cookies to every meal and that's the last of trash 🗑️
If your getting paid for it we don't need to thank you. Its your job.
Is this volunteer or are they paid?
