It's actually easy to explain. In game you have a heightened sense of awareness of them because they are an active threat trying to kill you. Watching videos, you are relaxed and whatever they say is not currently necessary to comprehend as the information isn't alerting you of them throwing grenades, sighting you or doing any other fun tricks.

I'm pretty sure the engine they use for that voice has every word possible, it's like S.A.M. So it's a modular, build-a-phrase thing.

@@dell988 i think that is just the VOX announcement voice, the grunt voices ARE pre-recorded. But they do have enough lines to create some sentences.
@@Klaeyy Their voices are text to speech. I checked. There's a whole steam forums discussion on it with the code and speech engine used.
@@dell988 alright, yeah i can find code online that can synthesize those words.
That was the way they are generated. But the voice lines that are IN HL1 are pre-recorded ones. So the game isn't synthesizing them on the spot and most of the people online are just using the exisiting voice lines to create sentences.
... but you are right. People can make new sentences with the code.

The fact that HL1 (and prob HL2 but afaik to a limited extend) has a voice system where enemies (including race X) are made to compile sentences fit for specific situation out of different pre-recorded words/phrases (there's a channel on YT that explains it way better than I can) gives it almost infinite potential.
