The thing that still gives me chills about the combine is that, if Gordon and the resistance do successfully take back the Earth, on a larger scale it wouldn't matter. Because the Combine only sees the Earth as a tiny dot in an *inter-dimensional* infrastructure. I don't think I've ever see another fictional empire on this scale.
It does matter - the reason Combine cares about Earth is because they want to fork human in-universe teleportation technology. That's also why they didn't kill off the humanity - they hold humans hostage to prompt black mesa scientists into cooperation.

The Universal Union spans over multiple universes, ultimately aiming to conquer the whole multiverse. A galaxy is nothing to them. Also, the Combine forces on Earth are just that, the Earth forces. The Combine on Earth are mostly trans-human soldiers or low-end synths. They are nowhere near the power of the actual Combine.
It is more likely that combine does not even see Dr. Freeman as a big threat to itself. All they are doing on Earth is to minimize the budget of obtaining resources.

I think the title of most powerful sci-fi faction goes to the SCP Foundation. One of their weapons is literally calling in the writers of the story to delete anything ( Even things like concepts. ), so I don't think the combine would be able to counter that.

Well, here's the important part: it's not just the rebels and Freeman. While extremely smart and creative, Gordon, Alyx, Eli, etc are still absolutely regular people. The main issue is the Gman, who you see throughout the game and who keeps plucking at the strings of reality, making things happen around you the exact way his Employers want. Guns just so happen to be lying about where you'd pick them or people conveniently die right when you come by for the same reason, some things break and reveal places nobody else could see or travel to; it goes right down to even something as trivial as supply crates, which oh so conveniently drop **exactly** what you need the most at the time - all thanks to our not so human man in a suit. Half Life Alyx further prooves this point, we only made it this far because he is abusing the "megastructure, riddled with cracks", as one important grub points out in that one ARG the game's writer had written
it's important to remember that this theme doesn't represent the Combine as a whole, because nothing can be representative of something so vast. A marching music like this is useless to an empire where some subjects have no sense of hearing or concept of music. Rather, this is the theme of the Transhuman Overwatch; it feels almost like something the Combine itself would create, a tool that plays into humans' need for symbology and grandiose artistry. The Combine creates only what it needs, and steals anything else. Here, we see it steal the harmonies, chords and echoes of fascism and militarism, because it has determined those will be useful in its subjugation of Earth
Something I've always wanted to do, but lack the ability nor software TO do, is recreate this song with the many noises of the Striders, Gunships, and Dropships. There are no instruments, just the distinct "voices" of each species in the Universal Union singing victory and triumph.

For example reaper main weapon is a stream of molten metal accelerated to the very high speed, well, in 40k there are plasma and melta weapons that are most likely can destroy reaper, and these kind of weaponry are available to the infantry.
The combine are supposed to represent the Soviet Union’s annexation of Eastern Europe with the soviet inspired gas masks, food rationing, lack of private property, even having their trans galactic citadel right in the middle of a Slavic city. If they where supposed to represent nazis the advisors would put humans and vortugaunts into death camps for being inferior species. Instead they add them to their collective and tries to forcefully make everyone equal. (Although some species are more equal than others) So they’re more like alien communists.
Imagine if the Combine were actually good guys, but their methods are actually what make them look like the bad guys? It would be a rather interesting alternate version of them to come across.

The Galactic Empire and literally anything in Star Wars hasn't got anything on the Combine. Heck, no other Sci-Fi Empire compares to them. If he were to go against the entire Universal Union, or even 1/3 of their true forces, him and the Resistance would not stand a chance. I had an idea for a Half-life mod once. A scene would occur where you are on a rockface, and you approach an outcropping and see a combine batallion assembling. This music begins to play as you observe the Soldiers, Combine Elites, Hunters, Striders, Dropships, and gunships, and possibly an Advisor at the front.
Sometimes I imagine hearing a loud explosion and seeing a huge portal and a giant tower falling out of the sky landing in the center of my city (Dallas) and watching the combing just march through the streets blaring this music and spouting propaganda. Good job

This gives me a feeling that I cannot describe I guess the best way I can explain it is Imagine an alien species from another planet very far away they're thriving and they're peaceful race but then the combine show up not all the sins but even with combine soldiers from half-life in this reality the combine one they destroyed humanity and then used humanity as a tool or what is left of it I mean this is the theme for when they're invading
I love the combine because unlike other sci-fi empires, they don't boast planet destroying weapons or unbeatable technology- the reason theyre so terrifying... is because they're smart.
i highly doubt the combine would have some sort of anthem, they aren't motivated by nationalistic desires, they are more of a corporation like entity, or some sort of non biological organism if you want to call it. they just extract resources by force, and expand their military power indefinitely. and for earth, well, they just have their symbol.

Well, here's the important part: it's not just the rebels and Freeman. While extremely smart and creative, Gordon, Alyx, Eli, etc are still absolutely regular people. The main issue is the Gman, who you see throughout the game and who keeps plucking at the strings of reality, making things happen around you the exact way his Employers want. Guns just so happen to be lying about where you'd pick them or people conveniently die right when you come by for the same reason, some things break and reveal places nobody else could see or travel to; it goes right down to even something as trivial as supply crates, which oh so conveniently drop **exactly** what you need the most at the time - all thanks to our not so human man in a suit. Half Life Alyx further prooves this point, we only made it this far because he is abusing the "megastructure, riddled with cracks", as one important grub points out in that one ARG the game's writer had written
it's important to remember that this theme doesn't represent the Combine as a whole, because nothing can be representative of something so vast. A marching music like this is useless to an empire where some subjects have no sense of hearing or concept of music. Rather, this is the theme of the Transhuman Overwatch; it feels almost like something the Combine itself would create, a tool that plays into humans' need for symbology and grandiose artistry.
The Combine creates only what it needs, and steals anything else. Here, we see it steal the harmonies, chords and echoes of fascism and militarism, because it has determined those will be useful in its subjugation of Earth

The Galactic Empire and literally anything in Star Wars hasn't got anything on the Combine. Heck, no other Sci-Fi Empire compares to them.
A guy with a crowbar is fighting with a mere scouting force for the Combine, or a police force designed to keep the Earth in check - because the Earth is nothing more to them than well for resources. If he were to go against the entire Universal Union, or even 1/3 of their true forces, him and the Resistance would not stand a chance. Why do you think closing the Superportal was such an important achievement for the Resistance? If that Superportal were to mature, the Combine would've most likely wiped everything off of the Earth in retaliation and moved on. And as Eli said, it wouldn't even last 7 minutes.
People like to overlook this detail. They also like to underestimate the Combine by claiming that other *intergalactic* Empires stand a chance against them, or even beat them. Very laughable - they should learn that the Combine is *interdimensional* , which pretty much means they will wipe the floor with any force in existence, as they have conquered entire universes. A galaxy is nothing to them, and neither are Empires claiming to be rulers of a galaxy. Woo, congratulations. Now go rule a universe then talk to the UU. Even then, they'd probably scoff at you.

You know how in Opposing Force you played Adrian Shepard, a HECU marine?
Well in HL2 Opposing Force if it ever happens it should continue with Adrian being released from stasis and being captured by the Combine and being identified as a former Marine. Once they identify him they will turn him into the member of the Over-watch. But when the Combine do Memory Replacement and all of that jizz it fucks up and he is left as a unit with his memory's and ability to fight back.

I've honestly always wondered what would happen if the Combine's full force decided to combat the SCP Foundation or other GoI. I think they would put up a pretty good fight considering the Foundation alone has dozens of powerful anomalies and other items to use.
Looking back at it, the Foundation and GoI would defeat the Combine with maybe low-middle difficulty.

I guess the best way I can explain it is Imagine an alien species from another planet very far away they're thriving and they're peaceful race but then the combine show up not all the sins but even with combine soldiers from half-life in this reality the combine one they destroyed humanity and then used humanity as a tool or what is left of it I mean this is the theme for when they're invading
I love the combine because unlike other sci-fi empires, they don't boast planet destroying weapons or unbeatable technology- the reason theyre so terrifying... is because they're smart.

i highly doubt the combine would have some sort of anthem, they aren't motivated by nationalistic desires, they are more of a corporation like entity, or some sort of non biological organism if you want to call it. they just extract resources by force, and expand their military power indefinitely. and for earth, well, they just have their symbol.
TheFi0r3 If what your saying is right, then I think it could still be considered an anthem, but not for the Combine. Seeing the humans have a sense of nationality, they could have made this song to try and make a false sense of nationality for the Civil Protection forces to more or less boost their moral.
Sam Webster read on the wiki that this was supposed to be for a Combine military parade (originally featured in an E3 trailer), which just seems weird to me. why would the Combine have a parade?
No, the combine are not nationalists. They are scientists who i like to believe act as the Military Industrial Complex for even bigger wars.
