Whatever solution you decide to pick, you really gotta get rid of the "im bad so i cant do it" mentality as soon as possible.
I've been telling myself that since the last decade, and now that I'm way more skilled, I still self-destruct and second guess myself all the time because even though my ability improved, my mentality didn't. Even though I DRAW FOR A LIVING!!
Even if you're objectively not skilled enough for the manga you envisioned, you'll improve 1000 times faster if you just do it. It'll give you all the REAL pointers, you'll know exactly WHERE to improve.
Make a "smaller" project and complete it. Even if you believe it will suck. I wish I did that sooner. Just go for it! :)

Definitely. It might take time but it's possible, and satisfying even, once you can do it on your own (I have first hand experience 😭)

Being an artist and writer is convenient, but I can definitely see how some people can be scared off by the workload of such a person. I do both, and it's taking me longer to finish one chapter than I wanted it to or thought it would. Still enjoying the process, though.

I love manga and I’ve always wanted to make my own. So I suck at drawing, a true beginner noob but this is just me; as an artist/writer, I want everything to be authentically my work. So recently, I’ve been practicing drawing and drawing and even though my one shot now looks sucky, I enjoy doing it. Hiring a drawer just feels like I’m cheating, this is just my opinion.

Bill Watterson has a minimalist art style. However, he conveys a lot of emotion in his work that is lacking in many series today. Most artists today can not produce similar thematic and emotional effects of a Calvin and Hobbes, let alone water color like Bill did (if the conversation is about being “simple”).
This is what made Bill successful. Also, his business smarts are what made him his wealth. Based on public information and postings, Watterson is worth an estimated $100 million in net worth from Calvin and Hobbes. The late great Akira Toriyama, by comparison, was estimated at half of that ($50 million). Based on financial reports and estimations, Bill achieved more financially with a minimalist comic like Calvin and Hobbes, than Toriyama achieved with a mega hit and detailed $25 billion or so property, like Dragonball.
Artists don’t need high production to make a good product that makes a profit. For beginners, it would be better to focus less on “special effects” and make a good title. You may even end up like the manga artist One, and have an artist approach you if your work is compelling enough. There are options that are realistic and budget friendly for creators.

Well I don't think Viz should be approaching Originals in such a way as trying to find the "next Naruto or One Piece".
I think y'all forget that 99% of American manga readers shit on and hate on "American Manga" and think it's cultural appropriation or rip-off.
Original English Manga has to evolve within its own space and readership in the west as most manga readers won't touch it with a ten foot pole. If you want an international mangaka to break out in the same way Naruto etc have then their primary objective should be publication in a JAPANESE magazine.
You should be playing directly in that market. Viz is just a localizer so their original content isn't gonna have and shouldn't have the same appeal as the content their licensing from Japan since the readership will be different. Manga fans just don't want it so it has to naturally find it's true readership in the west by appealing to the west.

I think you missed his main point. He's not saying he wants the foreign talent to try to cosplay as Japanese. In the segment he mentioned that he was hoping for the QUALITY to be on par with Japanese mangaka and said that one of the pros that he was looking forward to was having people from different backgrounds would allow for fresh and diverse storylines that you couldn't find in Japan. A story that rivals Japan's but has a unique quality that can't be found there.
His criticism was that it felt too Americanized and lost the aspects that make manga appealing. Even in the west, traditional American forms of comics are on the decline whereas manga and even Webtoons are on an upward trajectory. You said that international creators wanting to work on manga should move to Japan to pursue manga, but that is already a major weakness that VIZ originals could address. Most people do not care who made the manga/comic/webtoon as long as it's entertaining, and fresh stories from different perspectives in a high demand format is not something most of the western manga market would be opposed to.
And for proof of that, as I mentioned earlier, many Western creators have seen large success in the Webtoon market which was largely seen as a Korean graphic novel format. No one complains about Americans making those stories as long as they are done well. The same could apply to manga

They could always just call it a “comic” to avoid these sentiments. Comics can and have been inspired by Japanese manga, yet still take on the label of “comic”.
I understand the idea and wanting to cite your inspiration, but “manga” is a term in Japan that encompasses comics as well. So…why not just call it a comic versus getting into a battle of semantics and language?
I think the time would be better spent marketing your story and product than trying to get others on board with what medium title it should be classified as. Not saying creators do this by default, but we have all seen the arguments and debates online.
It’s ok to be a “comic” if being a “manga” creates a barrier of entry for you. OR you could just be a rebel and do what you want, and see how it plays out lol. I’m all for that one too.

In the past he said he was a big fan of connecting on social media (IG). I believe when he was starting out he contacted up and coming artists and a few of them have grown in their skill to parallel his own trajectory, allowing them to also work on more recent works.
He also advised writers to have a portfolio of their completed written works because it shows potential artist partners that you're serious about your craft, and if they enjoy your work it's another reason why they'd be partial to working with you.
Artists want to feel like they're not wasting their, which means a combination of fair compensation and buying into the writer's vision. This requires the writer to have some proof of their own skill
