How Irpin restores waste management system

"After the de-occupation, we were horrified to see that most of our municipal equipment had been damaged, and some destroyed," shares Serhii Skrypnyk, Head of the Irpin Municipal Enterprise.
Restoring the waste management system was one of the enormous challenges Irpin and other communities in the Kyiv Region faced after the de-occupation in 2022.
Even before the Russian invasion, Ukrainian communities struggled with waste management due to outdated equipment. The full-scale war worsened the situation,. with widespread destruction and disruption of service provision.
With support from the European Union and the Government of Japan, UNDP provided 25 modern waste trucks to Irpin and 11 communities in Kyiv Region. Provision of such equipment is not only a restoration of the waste management systems but also an enabler of the green ambitions of communities.
