I like it a lot! This would make for a pretty decent wall for an automotive diorama I want to do but I think for 1/24 scale the bricks should be a bit smaller. However, some buildings made use of larger bricks, really blocks and that too could work in 1/24 scale. Also, don't forget some buildings had plaster applied over the classic red house bricks and it would sometimes crack and chip away.
Thanks Max. You are right about the bricks/blocks having different sizes so you can make your design to the desired look that you are aiming for. And yes on the plasters over brick wall. I actually have some dio builds that incorporated that looks. You can check my Dio Build videos if you’re interested.

gonard12 I would say the easiest way to create raised bricks is to use project/craft foam and cut pieces the size of your bricks and then insert it slightly and glue it on a depressed brick in the brick wall. Hope that makes sense.

Hi, great video! Does the foam you use have a paper backing? If it does, do you leave it on or remove it before starting on the lines?
James McGowen The pink foam that I’m using here doesn’t have any paper backing. But I do use craft foam and that one has the backing and I do remove the paper before painting.
Very good work and explanation. Question, when using base coat black do you add water to the black or just black ?
yanksspanks100 I usually water down my paint a little bit before painting in general. It helps get paints to the cracks and crevices of the design better.

jun esma I use water based acrylic paints. The paint itself is called brick red.
I mean do you use a brush or an air brush to paint?
jun esma I pretty much use brush to paint. I only use airbrush to apply additional details when needed

James Bird I normally use brush to paint. I use sponge if I'm going for a certain look like a more distressed or weathered look
Can you do a video for white tiles like a bathroom
Do you have a video on the painting part? That was skipped...and have no clue on how to paint something... How did you get the darkish color all together like that? Can the same look also be obtained from spraypainting or is it better to use paints like the one i saw in your hand?
I did not cover the painting section in this video since I was focusing more on how the brick wall are done using insulation foam. But I will definitely put together a tutorial on how to paint bricks later on. So just watch out for it soon +TOYMASTERFUL

+Nicholas Savino I applied some lightweight spackling material to the wall and wipe off the excess material
Can you make a whole building from this Home Depot Insulation Foam Board ? if so what you glue it with ?
John Gee yes you can create whole dio building with it. And Hot glue is preferred.

John Gee since you are doing a smaller scale dio, you can use craft foam/project foam. You can buy them at the Dollar Tree for the 24x36 sheet. My tip however is to mount that foam to something rigid like a cardboard for durability since craft foam is not as thick as insulation foam.

i can't remember exactly since it's a long time. Probably 12" x 12"

J Fulton 1/8” x 3/8” will be a good start.
Are these 1/12 scale bricks?
Yes, brick wall shown here is for 1/12 scale or 6" figures.

can you get foam put magnets on it and put carboard ontop of foam
I’m pretty sure can. You just have to remember that the magnet may weaken its strength since your adding another layer instead of a direct magnet to magnet contact.

It usually doesn’t matter. I think for this particular project, i started with half an inch first.

Love your work, love your tutorials - piece of advice?
Write an outline of all the topics you wish to cover & then flesh that out into a script - next, practice that script several times prior to recording - in post-production you can also record a voiceover track, similar to a commentary track on a DVD, to cover point you may have missed or you may choose to record your entire v/o track that way.
In any case, please prepare your remarks ahead of time - your information is very valuable but listening to half an hours' worth of 'um' and 'uh' is painful.

+Mechbay when I'm cutting the styro other parts are not becoming straight. Did you paint the styro to silver first?
The foam is actually pink in color. My LED lights is probably making it look like silver in my video. As for the cutting, make sure that your blade is sharp. Use a metal edge ruler when doing your cuts. You just have to be still and push towards the inside part of the ruler. And lastly, practice makes it perfect.
+Mechbay so you're cutting the foam right ahead? Not putting plaster of paris or anything? What's the metal pen like called again? Can't understand it well on the video thanks! :)
yes. I cut before I paint or add any addditional parts. The metal pen that I used is called a scriber.
I don't think you can be the best
I find it a little difficult to listen to your voice, it gos down then up and down then up,
Not to complain but It would have been more informative and easier to learn if you would have shown coloring and aging the brick rather than only verbalize the technique. You spent way too much repetitious time drawing and scoring the brick lines which was obvious after a row or two. Showing painting is what would have been better subject to teach your craft.
breakinn403 thank you for your suggestion. My goal the first time I made the video was just to show my audience how to carve and layout bricks as well as showing the basic tools needed to accomplish it. And then have another video dedicated on painting it which hasn’t happened. I know that something that my subscribers have been requesting so I will make that video one way or another.
