I remember this number from an 80's dance-documentary series that the BBC broadcast in UK which she fronted and performed. Following the success of "Micky". Toni was very popular for a while in UK and did a few shows over here. We remember with fondness. She was good talking to camera, and her acceptance and promotion of new and youthful dance styles always did her much credit.... showing her legendary ability to stay fresh and young in herself. She became intrigued by an already established black cultural dance art form know as Campbell Locking created by yes a black man named Don Campbell. After she learned from him and other locking pioneers, she used her established professional reputation as a choreographer to help open doors for the group. She became a member of the group that was re-named "The Lockers". Don't give others credit for the black culture created!

Wonderful, I have been dancing around the room watching and listening to this. First time I have seen this clip. Loved the 1980s TV dance music series she made in UK. Remember her with great fondness and admiration for her skills and invention, not just her dance and obvious good looks. and this is after exhausting myself dancing on the beach around midday today, but then I had a siesta and am chirpy and ready to dance some more.

Impressive! Toni Basil is a lot more talented than I previously gave her credit for based on "Mickey". Admittedly, I loved the song Mickey as it was extremely catchy, but I I didn't think the video was that slick and the dancing/cheerleading that special. I really liked both this song and this video. There is no woman and perhaps only a few men that can out step her.. and she outlived a lot of the original members of the Lockers.. Her diet and discipline and not doing knee drops may have contributed to her longevity..lol..But God bless her and all fly steppers of the world!

Yes. "Shabba Doo" was in her managed/choreographed/starred dance troop, The Lockers (Fred "Rerun" Berry) was a part of. They performed for many years on Soul Train. Before that, she was in beach flicks and an actress. She had an amazing career.
That “ballet chick” in Breakin was actually a jazz dance chick and the actress’name is Lucinda Dickey. Breakin was choreographed Bill Goodson. I danced in break and also danced extensively with Toni.
