Same here. As a kid my parents could not afford one either but as a 57 year old, old man I bought my daughter one when she was 9. It still runs and I still ride it.
I have 1500 miles on my new Monkey, I haven't had any problems with it and I absolutely love it! For only having 125cc's it will hit 55 mph's. It's super fun and you can go just about anywhere you want.
I bought one, non abs. Im 56, with a little chub in the "old mid section", but love the feel of the bike, and the fun to ride it. In essence, I get to be a "kid" again. Thank you Honda.
People complaining about the price when many of them have 1k phones . . . 1k for a phone that you use for 1 or two years and then go for the newer model is way more ridiculous than the price of this bike even if it's overpriced . . .
This argument doesn't fly for me. The $1,000 phone is basically a super computer in your pocket. You can do almost anything with it. It is a phone, a tv, a computer and a camera all in one. I happily pay that price for an amazing piece of technology every two years. As far as the price of the Monkey, I feel it is slightly steep compared to other bikes but I am still happy with mine and love it.
Loads of grom tuning parts already available. It's a nice proposition. But if you have a full licence and don't live in the city a £3,699 second hand bike could be a lot better. This would work well for putting on the back of a motor home, as would a grom. But these are so light make sure you lock it too something, a thief will pick it up and walk off with it.
When you are only 13 and riding over the desert, so those big chunky tires really give you traction, well, that is when you can REALLY appreciate a bike like this. I used to throw that sucker around like a space ship. I would find the best sand dunes to ride over. Not too soft, not too hard. Big steep slopes sometimes. I'd fly her up 10 foot in the air no problem. Just got to get the hard sand / soft sand ratio right. You need the hard send to send you up, but it's the soft sand you want to land on. Sometimes you could even twist it all about. There was hard sand caked on soft sand and as long as you didn't ride too slow over it you could keep riding, but slow down... I don't know anything about motorbikes, but this looks a pretty cool thing for a kid.
When are they going to arrive in the US dealers? Knowing Honda they will introduce it will only 2 (red and yellow) colors and in 2 years drop some new colors.
They were fantastic fun the first time around and now even better with modern engineering. Even the engine is the same, just EU4 injection & ignition added. Just bought a replica of their Honda dax and this has the same design engine. Used in the old plastic fairing C50/70/100 too old skool mopeds too. A well designed and very well proven engine.
There and back again I don't know what you're talking about. I'm 6'0 and 220lbs, the seats totally fine. The suspension is sure light though. But who cares, run it hard and upgrade with the volumes of available parts if you want.
That thing is soo much bigger then the orig z50. When im done restoring its going to be great. Just about done 2 fenders and lights and im done finally
honesty, if they could ony get 2K for this they probably wouldn't have bothered. It's a fair price, but the real attraction to Honda for doing this has to be the huge markup
Yep, too expensive. Little better than a scooter with those small wheels, as far as handling goes. The should have 250cc' d it and scaled it up a bit. Missed oportunity.
tbf with its cheap ass engine tech, if they made it a 250, it would still only be a little bit more powerful than a honda shadow 125, or most of the sports 125's - the R125/RC125/Gixxer125, etc, and to be fair they're all 15hp because that's the A1 limit. Kinda reminds me of the suzuki Tu250x - been around forever, 25 year old tech, yet priced WAY higher than pretty much any of it's modern competators and almost as much as a ninja 400 lol. It's a solid bike, good for commuting and learning, with good looks and fuel economy, but the money they charge for it is a joke - drum brakes and most every other 250 on the market makes at least 50% more than it's 16hp,;sports 250's make double lol. Buyers should benefit from the age of the bike - lower production costs, no real development costs, etc, but instead it's just expensive. That's how I feel about the monkey - it's just not worth the money they're asking. The most advanced thing on it is the braking system and that's only there because the EU made them do it ol, and as we know from other bikes isn't actually expensive for 125's. It's cute, it's fun, but I'm not giving you a 100% at least tip on your usual profit margin just because you think I'll pay it.
Needs more zip. A 200 or 250 would be ideal, even if they had to scale to up a tad, it would still be cool. I am amazed Honda have took this long to bring the Monkey back?!
ideal for London, RJ aka Royal Jordanian bought one it is a lot faster for negotiating traffic, he does it expertly classic design ......a fun bike and very cheap to run
These caught my eye recently in Thailand, they are built there. They are sold as a premium bike versus a Honda Cub. Disappointed to hear the price when I got back, the non abs version they sell there is available for about €2500.
Looks like an old Honda mini trail z50. Very cool looking, and would be a great little bike to use as a campground bike. Run to the store or get a sandwich type of bike. Huge step up from the Ruckus, it has gears and 125 motor.
This bike is like the Smart for 2 of cars not really practical functional but functional for the purpose of taking you and only you from point A to short point B etc
bgh187s2k I could possibly get more from my MSX but it includes a 16 mile commute of heavy traffic and loads of traffic lights,on a plus side it's all 30 and 40 MPH speed limits.
I’ve never ridden a motorcycle before. And I’m thinking about getting this or a ktm duke 390? I want both bikes but Idk which one I should get first to learn on.
This is it for me. I just wouldn't buy it on priciple. Its super low tech, mad of obviously small materials and yet is one of the most expensive 125's because they know people will pay because it's "cute". Yes it has ABS, but so does everything, because that's the law now.
ah I bought one after 30 years with no bike , i love the little thing , but now i kind of need more power, not around town or the side roads but out on the highways or main roads I need a little more power to feel safe, but I will never go that far that I sell it , but I got a little bobber in my mind 500-750 would be enough, the new Honda Rebel looks kind of right too, but then the Monkey would go , i don't know but a nice used shadow or dragstar , v-star could be a project to aim at
Thank you torn between a super cub because my 5-10 1/2 body and this ,this attract me cause I had a 73 z 50 as a kid. I just want it for local stuff like store runs when I forgot to get milk etc here in the states . My brain sez super cub more practical + my inner child sez "Monkey bike". I'm 10 years old again but street legal. Thanks for seeing a adult ride one opposed to just stock photos and specs.
No it can go 63, depending on your weight. 50 mph for someone who weighs 120kg is about the speed you can RELY on getting unless the hill is ridiculous. The speed a 5'9" 70kg kid can get full tuck with a slight tailwind on perfectly flat ground a couple of times is irrelevant here. for most rides 55mph should hopefully be achievable at 120kg, but when you're looking to invest thousands of dollars into a bike you want the honest, most likely reality of what you can expect. I've had a lot of 125's over the years and there's this attitude with sub 250cc bikes to totally overhype how fast they actually go or ignore how slow they are on hills, carrying weight etc. but that's the actual reality of riding them. In the youtube age it's to find the video of the bike going the absolute fastest and say that's how fast the bike goes instead of that one guy was able to get get the bike up to that speed that one time. You set the expectation low for someone buying them so that it can surprise them, you don't over sell it promising things it simply isn't going to do 99% of the time and leave them disappointed. This bike is not getting someone who's 120kg to 63mph unless it's down hill.
brilliant move by honda, really, but the price of these things is a bit nutty, and that may hold many back when they consider what else they could get in the price range
Last thing, why do reviewers always justify technology. If it didn't have ABS, you would not endo it, you would learn how to use the brakes. Just like car reviewers say auto braking saved them but they haven't rear ended someone since 1971. If there is no auto braking, a person pays more attention. Sometimes I think reviewers are getting paid to push new technology.
Probably so. Sometimes I think about race vehicles and how they have no aides to the driver at all. And they are driven very fast in super dangerous conditions. LOL
If I got a pound for every time someone told me I was being paid to say nice things in reviews, I wouldn't have to accept manufacturer's kickbacks. Joking aside, sure you might not ever need the anti-tilt ABS but that one time something jumps out on you and you grab a handful of lever, you'll be glad you had it.
I have a 97 vulcan 500. No abs, no gear indicators, no tach, etc. You learn how to ride and when and when not to use which brakes. Your brain is a pretty good computer.
And if you never had it, you'd learn how to ride that bike without it. I don't even think it's a bad thing, I just object to reviewers justifying technology by saying it's needed when it isn't needed. When's the last time you endoed a bike, any bike? I've never done it once and I've had street bikes and dirt bikes. And as a teen I rode super aggressively and I never came close to doing that. I always put the back brake on first and then add front carefully. And likely you do too although you might put them on together. I don't even take that chance, always back first for me.
Tang chueng khai The Kaw is better for taller and heavier riders. Read the Z125 vs Grom reviews on RUclips. Im 6'2", 250 pounds and liked the Kaw over the Grom. The Monkey looks roomier than the Grom, but I have a feeling the forks are softer.

Wow, I'm impressed... You made it around London without getting bike jacked!
The Honda Monkey is hilarious fun. I picked one up a few weeks ago and am having an absolute blast on it!
Top speed:
With license plate : 90km/h
Without license plate: 110 km/h
this is the true definition of fun vehicle
I always wanted one or the originals from the 70s but my family couldn’t afford it. Now I’m gonna get me one, Woo Hoo!!
Same here. As a kid my parents could not afford one either but as a 57 year old, old man I bought my daughter one when she was 9. It still runs and I still ride it.
I'm trying to decide between this or an H2R..... 🤔
Foxy Moto Same here 😂
Get this, it's more fun.
Haha
Foxy Moto h2r is not street legal so you would have to go with the H2.
Envy YT - I've decided; I'll take the Monkey! With the H2 I'd lose my licence.
i have already one... best buy ever :-) never smiled so much and had so much fun on a Bike since my Honda Dax back in the Days... love it
Do I need one, no.... Do I want one, yes!!
I have 1500 miles on my new Monkey, I haven't had any problems with it and I absolutely love it! For only having 125cc's it will hit 55 mph's. It's super fun and you can go just about anywhere you want.
Much better than a bus pass, much more fun than a bus pass.
Looks like the old Honda 50cc Mini Trail I had as a kid back in the 70s.
I had one of those, paid $100Aus for it, quite collectable nowadays..
I've got a very clean 1976 Honda Z50, worth about $5k AUD, if you can find one!
Looks fabulous fun, I'm seriously tempted! Must get me a go on one of those puppies - thanks for posting.....
Looking forward to your test ride soon. No pressure!
Could you film a testride? :)
Nice to see you on other videos TMF :)
It would be rude not too! :D
I bought one, non abs. Im 56, with a little chub in the "old mid section", but love the feel of the bike, and the fun to ride it. In essence, I get to be a "kid" again. Thank you Honda.
He just went between those cars! Bad ass! 👍

My son has one and fitted a Yoshimura exhaust , he commutes on it and it sounds , just amazing :-)
That dual rear spring design makes the rear swingarm EXTRA OLD SCHOOL DURABLE
So is it pretty much a retro looking grom?
Pretty much
Correct
For us older guys who are nostalgic about our first minibike. Honda was smart because we can afford it with cash. The Grom buyers have to finance.
Rebel Lucy suppose it makes sense that the demographic for the monkey may be adults while the grom are teens

the airbox looks like a tuppaware lunchbox
Now I'm going to need to test drive one of these and the Grom before I make my final decision next month...
Ivan Jetá Take the Grom! Cheaper, more tuning parts, huge community!!
There and back again I don't know what you're talking about. I'm 6'0 and 220lbs, the seats totally fine. The suspension is sure light though. But who cares, run it hard and upgrade with the volumes of available parts if you want.
This is 1.5k more
Dont forget the Kawasaki Z125.
Im 6'2", 250 lbs and the Kawasaki fit me much better than the Grom.
The Kaw also has stiffer forks.
I own a 2017 Grom. 4k miles on it, still going strong.
Abrupt end!?? How odd! Looks 👀 great fun!
That thing is soo much bigger then the orig z50. When im done restoring its going to be great. Just about done 2 fenders and lights and im done finally
Would love to see it in some diff color choices.
min 0:22 -> We hear "and we r here at the Bike Shed" ...yet in video, we see the bikes in front of the Ace Cafe! SO FUNNY!
Over 3.5k for this! If it cost 2k, it might have been a good prospect...
honesty, if they could ony get 2K for this they probably wouldn't have bothered. It's a fair price, but the real attraction to Honda for doing this has to be the huge markup
Just think.k of the used bike you can buy for $3500. Especially in the fall when people start thinking about having to store motorcycles

I think hondas motorbike range is really lacking but boy oh boy the 125 range is easily the best out there they are killing it

No it can go 63, depending on your weight.
