Kenya: Around 50 Killed, Dozens Missing in Deadly Floods and Landslide | Firstpost Earth
Flash floods and a landslide struck central Kenya on Monday (April 29), claiming the lives of at least 45 individuals and injuring over 110 others. The town of Mai Mahiu bore the brunt of the disaster as floodwaters engulfed houses and swept away cars. The flooding was initially attributed to a burst dam by the police, but the Ministry of Water later identified the cause as a blocked river tunnel under a railway embankment, obstructed by debris. The fatalities add to the toll of over 170 deaths across Kenya due to heavy rains and flooding since last month. The calamity has displaced more than 185,000 people in Kenya as persistent rains in East Africa continue to worsen the country's flooding situation.
