Also, I think you should spice up the drums a little bit more I'm making it a little bit more complex because to me right now they sound supper repetitive as well and I you should add a nice 808 kick bass to layer your drum.
Part of the reason why people are like "wtf?" is that it feels like a bait-n-switch - sampling the special stage is cliche and has been done about a thousand times before. Sampling the game over music would be more difficult, challenging, and interesting to listen to. Again don;t take my word for it, just search for Sonic the Hedgehog samples on youtube to see what I mean. Very few people have pulled off the game over sample well, so when it comes up in a search or playlist it grabs attention.
