Probably wondering, "How many gallons this thing burns" [wait for it} "All of 'em...this engine is very thorough." Best sales pitch ever!!! I am buying a Grumman, and subscribing.
I worked as a Conductor on the railroad. I used to fly my new 79 Tiger down to Milford Utah from Salt Lake 180 miles with 1 1/2 hour call. I was on time there more often than I was working out of Salt Lake I would sometimes, knowing I was going to get called within a 8 hour window, would fly down to Milford. Bunk down in the fold out bed after taking my suitcase motorcycle out of the back. They would drive out to the airport and wake me up for my cal to go to Las Vegasl. What an adventure! ‼️
Who built the LEM? Grumman Apollo Lunar Module/Manufacturers Lunar Module (LM), built by the Grumman Corporation in Bethpage, NY, was the vehicle that would take two astronauts down to the lunar surface and return them to the waiting Command Module in lunar orbit.
First time viewer, I wanted to congratulate you! Out of all the sinus, Nettie pots I’ve tried, I never in a million years thought coffee would be a product that could cleanse my sinuses. This video provided the propulsion needed to evacuate the backlog! Thanks! Love the humor and I’ve been tossing over a Grumman vs a Mooney based on $ and operating costs. Once I catch my breath, I might have oxygen to compute your findings!
On the serious side, I was looking at a Mooney 201. The answer you are looking for is, "it depends". The decision will be easier once you know the mission. The 201 will cost more, it will have higher maintenance costs, and burn more fuel (200HP). Now here is the advantage of the 201. It is 20 knots faster, it burns less fuel per mile (10.4 Gallons per Hour doing 155+ knots). If you fly a significant number of hours the 201 will end up costing less overall. if you are using it for a business, then the 201 might even get things done that the Tiger simply cant (visit more customers within a time-frame). These are pretty remote scenarios. The truth is, 99% of the time, the Tiger is the better bet (unless speed is the only consideration). I bought a Tiger and now see the 201 as a "not so necessary airplane". Compared to a Cessna 172, the 201 for me was the only option. The fuel savings alone would make the 201 cheaper overall than the 172. But the Tiger changed that equation. the Tiger is an overall efficient machine, both from a fuel and ownership perspective!
I have now found a channel that I can relate to. As soon as I can quit laughing I subbed as soon as video ended. “Made from recycled Mooney’s “ man you made my day a little brighter.
My first plane was a Grumman (actually mine was a Gulfstream so I was in the big leagues from Day 1 LOL). Well-designed, solid airplane. Living in Indiana I had the extra benefit and privilege to get it serviced at Excel-Air in Rensselaer. My two kids (2 and 8 at the time) fit well in the back. Handling was quick sports-car like as well. Thank you for bringing back the memories.
Flown a Tiger and did my multi in a Grumman Cougar, I definitely think as a group they are underrated and often overlooked. You forgot to mention Grumman got bought out by Gulfstream. That's a nice Gulfstream you own Bryan!
Flying'N'Driving Your story brought back some good ole memories. I once dated a Cougar who called me Tiger. She too was underrated and often overlooked. Good times!!!

One of these chaps is taking his private pilot instruction on it and is so enamoured by it it that he bought his own Cheetah this week. I did my own Class 2 Instructor recurrency flight test in it a few weeks ago and joked with my examiner about some of the same things you did. Your video on the biannual flight review was also hilarious. Man was she a good sport. Keep up the great work!

In the mid 1970's we used to put 600 pounds of 4 adults every weekend with full fuel on traveler and Cheetah 150hp. Then in way back from buying liquor at discount we used to insert a case of 4 liters under each of the seats (They fit perfectly there), take off short field style on windy conditions, crosswinds or not, and fly 100 miles back. Did that over 20 or 30 times. Was outside USA. Was normal on that airport to fly overloaded by 20%. 30 percent they didnt allow that but.. It happened a lot. We were crazy Grumman Pilots. I rented them for 30 dollars an hour. Full IFR for 33 to 35 dollars. Only 1 to 3 year old airplanes at that school. Some brand new for 33 dollars an hour. Lots of fun flying to pick up cheap liquor at certain discount outlet 92 miles away. Then use that liquor at local parties that night. LOL. 1970's we were... not too careful.. But.. I became a dam good pilot doing those overloaded flights. Was hired due my Grumman experiences. The part 135 operator next door only hired Grumman School pilots. Not Cessna or Piper schools.
I did a bit of digging and they have the gall to be doing it again next year. I'm not sure how they sleep at night. Thanks for the positive feedback. I always look forward to your comments on my videos even though your parents don't know how to spell Bryan :)
I own a Cessna 172. I bought a General American Tiger. The Cessna went up for sale the very next day (no lie). Until the Cessna sells, it will be used as a taxi service. I fly the Cessna to the hangar where the Tiger is. The 172 is a great trainer. The Tiger is a great airplane!
My first GA flight was in a Cheetah. What I remember most was not having enough legroom to avoid my legs getting smacked with the yoke. They are cool airplanes, though. If I was 3" shorter, it would be high on my list of desirable airframes.

Working on my PPL now. Unironically, your videos on the Grumman have seriously made me consider one for my first plane.. I mean, they also made the LLV post office trucks, and look how many of those are on the road. Plus all the tubes. I'm not sure you can really go wrong.

Just now seeing this video! First off, freaking hilarious!! Could not stop laughing. Second, I have just started flying an AA5. The airport close to where we are staying in OR has one for rent (the 172 is down hard). Super fun plane to fly, but one thing you neglected to mention is the absolute lack of headroom if you are of a taller stature. I'm 6'4 and with my headset on, I had to keep my head ducked down on the first flight. The mechanic told me I could take the seat cushion off and was kind enough to cut some egg crate foam for me to use. That actually worked out pretty well! Perhaps they need to do a canopy mod to create a bubble or dome for taller people to use?? Sorry for rambling, but just wanted to let you know! Keep up the awesome job and the funny vids! Fly safe!
@@thomasalexander2536 yes. It was a very fun, albeit, slow plane to fly. I took my wife down the Columbia River Gorge from Hermiston to The Dalles for lunch. It was her first time flying with me. You can see the video on my channel.

It won't takeoff, but they'll fit in there! BWAAHAAHAAHAAHAA! Stop it!
"Just look at that paint job..." BWAAHAAHAAHAA! Stop it! STOP!
Grumman sure was ahead of it's time building an aircraft which retained a pressurised cabin with the canopy open. 👍😉
Another benefit of the honeycomb construction is all of the free honey you get from the bees living inside 🤣

The Grumman-American AA5B Tiger is my all-time favorite single engine airplane. The AA5 Traveler is probably the best value in a four-place plane!
Had a 75 traveler for years. Great simple get around airplane. Flew it to Telluride a couple times. Climb sucks but you can allow for it.
Hi Brian,
You are a very gifted comedian and a good pilot, keep doing these videos !!!
You covered up with a blanket in the back on a plane on a 109° day to make that joke and I appreciate that.
