    Let's be honest...most of us who are EDC aficionados are in this hobby because we enjoy carrying this stuff, NOT because we need it most of the time. Carry what you want, when you want to. Murica.

    Today, I was taking my 2 teenagers to the arcade. So, I'm packing up my cargo shorts with my EDC...
    Knife, light, pen, notepad, lighter, you know... The basics...
    Then I thought, "I should just take my EDC sling bag with me to have some space for snacks for them..."
    Start going through the bag and I had EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING that I had put in my cargo shorts! My draws got a whole lot lighter as I laughed about my own excess.
    Marine X on POINT today!
    Semper Fi!

    Nailed it on this. Carrying too much is a habit I constantly have to fight myself on. You want a water filtration system and a tarp in your car emergency kit? That's fine, but unless you're going backpacking, it doesn't need to be in your carry bag.
    When it comes to checking your gear, this goes well beyond EDC. People buy first aid kits for their homes, cars, etc. and then feel prepared. 5 years later, those bandaids no longer stick and the alcohol pads are dried out. You have to check and replace stuff from time to time or use it up. What good is emergency gear that fails you in an actual emergency?

    I’ve certainly showed off my kit, but the one thing I didn’t and won’t show; is anything I use for self defense.
    I like keeping those particular cards close to my chest

    It seems like the more you know, the less you need. It's fun to carry a tool chest of items around the house, but lately... a swiss army exec attached to a $3 keychain light that uses simple watch batteries is more than enough. Love the video and thanks for responding to comments it's really appreciated!

    When I'm out and not walking the dog, one knife, one sidearm, one spare mag, one lighter, one pen, one phone one wallet, key ring.
    With the dog, a 27 pound pack I carry daily also is just good exercise and practice. I'm down 70 pounds and am showing more definition in my legs than I have seen in 30 years.
    I wear the pack when I walk my dog daily most days. I'm 66 and getting back into shape since retiring a couple years ago. We will probably walk about 1,100 miles in 350 days this year. Rain, shine, sun, snow, high heat index or subzero wind chill. We walk. He's a big furry critter that went through a gallon of water in 3.2 miles today. So I have a lot of water, his bowl and his treats in my pack. Most weight in the pack by item. Thirteen pounds. Plus a couple pounds for the steel water containers as the cheap plastic ones all leak eventually. Plus two pounds just for a comfortable 30 liter pack. So I'm already carrying seventeen pounds just to water the dog. Why not throw in some other stuff.
    The cheap "space blanket", hey at under two ounces and small volume, if I ever need it and don't have it I'd be disappointed. This coming from a guy who once used my own winter coat to shelter a car accident victim that was going into shock. When I got the coat back a day later the body fluids had dried on, and didn't really wash out. So yah, I'll be disappointed.
    I've got old joints, so I carry a knee wrap and an ankle wrap. I used one of those just last week.
    The poncho, used about two weeks ago
    The 20 foot backup leash about three weeks ago when I let him in the river. The spare socks, same day as the 20 foot leash at the same place.
    The SNOWFLAKE multitool, fixed a kid's bicycle brake in the park two weeks ago.
    The extra dog crap bags, hey a roll of those runs out about once a week. You don't want me to run out in your yard.
    The cordage and straps, about 6 weeks ago, tying things to the pack from a yard sale.
    The knife in my pocket, I used it to clear a path through brush a while back.
    In the winter, it is the extra scarf and hat. I gave one away last year.
    My phone, no apps, no maps, just a flip phone with a battery that lasts 5 days. The most it usually gets used is to send a picture to my daughter or brother. Sometimes I get a call in the morning, but not often.
    Mechanics gloves, good for a little cold, or light duty work. It happens.
    The pack has hidden cash. My wallet has the typical cash, credit, ID, insurance. Spare change, always good for something.
    The compass, haven't used yet, but I may get that far off trail that I want to map and write down my route. Done that before.
    Spare knife? well, if I abuse my $35 edc knife and break the blade, I may want a second one to do the job slower.
    Flashlight, sometimes I get out of town, I'm old, I may get hurt?
    Two pens? Pens are notorious for dying when you really want them.
    And the key ring. (front, back, two vehicles, son's home, shed, boat trailer, trailer hitch, about 8 suitcase and gun locks. Used a bunch of those traveling to Illinois to visit in-laws for a range and steak weekend two weeks ago.
    Sidearm in shoulder holster, came close one time to pulling on another dog. Luckily the owner came out of the house while the dog was circling us at the top of its lungs. And why carry with only one magazine? It ain't just dogs and people, we got cougars out here.
    One of these days I'll be ready to solo backpack in the mountains in winter. 9 hours of daylight, fresh snow on the tent, too cold for butane to light, the frozen waterfall and the tree limbs bursting at 2 AM from the cold. God that was a great time to be alive. One more time please.
    Then there is the rockhounding pack , pry bar, small pickaxe, small shovel rick hammer, 2 pound mallet, chisel, magnet, spray bottle, water bottle, leather gloves, two gallon bucket
    The range trips include a first aid kit.
    The get out of dodge pack isn't a pack, it is a Plano lockable tote.

    I absolutely agree with everything, from a personal example I can say that I am currently wearing a Ganzo FH922 (D2 steel) knife which is better than the mini Griptilian in all segments and costs 4 times less. I have Olight i3T for a couple of years and it still works without problems, the price was about 18 dollars.Wallet, G-Shock, mobile phone and that's it. There is no need to exaggerate. Of course, EDC varies according to individual needs

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Год назад +1

      And for my needs, he's dead fucking wrong about knife steel. If I listened to people like him, my EDC never would have made it through skinning a buck with an intact hide to brain tan with a D2 knife or less steel that would have dulled fast as shit. That's what being always prepared is all about, for unexpected situations.

    • @TheBudgetguy_K.T
      @TheBudgetguy_K.T Год назад

      @Swearengen1980 You like pestering 4 month old comments or something dude... D2 can be a great skinner if you over harden it, but you lose flexibility, and it will shatter if used for anything else, same with 1095 and basically all steels...Super steels aren't super they still need honed and maintained. While M4 is great, my 14c28n Folder was 360 bucks cheaper and works just as well for pretty much just as long...

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Год назад

      @@TheBudgetguy_K.T My bad, I didn't realizer freedom of speech had a shelf life. 1095 can't make it through 1/3 of a hide. Been there, done that. The ESEE AGK, while perfect in shape/size, was pure shit until they released it in S35VN. Sure, you can over harden it, but no one fucking does that so it's asinine to bring up anything other than what you can purchase, that's a red herring. Cruwear absolutely can make it through 3 bucks because I've done it. My guess, you're just a broke wanna-be nerd who buys $10 knives and then makes up stupid shit with no first hand experience to make himself feel better. Probably never skinned a buck, let alone with various steels. You're simply delusional or a liar to claim different steels don't have different edge retentions, especially on different materials. My EDC is in 14c28n. It's a great steel for an EDC when you go back home everyday and not using it for extended periods. To compare that to Magnacut or Cruwear though is absurd.

  • @drstrangefart
    @drstrangefart Год назад +1

    My own EDC philosopy is to travel as light as possible. All I have is a folding knife (have a few super steels and some damascus), a pen I made, a watch, and vape gear. If I'm going somewhere I feel unsafe I'll grab the Fudd Cannon 45, but that's it. The phone is EDC and gets used as a tool nonstop.

  • @OnusBones
    @OnusBones Год назад

    Good points. I just replaced my phone due to battery issues. The new one, a Bison 2 Pro, lasts a very long time.
    I did cut my EDC flashlights down to two, a little Sofirn SC21PRO I use 1-3 times per day, and a Lumintop Tool AA I carry for its diffuser, since the two nearest thronerooms have no windows and no emergency lights.
    Battalion up!

    More expensive does not equal better. That having been stated, I always try to get the best whatever. Pen, knife, fladhlight...whatever. None of my EDC is inferior quality. Utility, quality, reliability, size, weight, price, and other factors are all considerations. If I can't field sharpen a blade, not carrying it.
    I do have some titanium, but because it doesn't rust, isn't magnetic, and isn't a conductor. The light weight doesn't hurt.
    Not carrying Gerber. Reliability and quality are important.
    Many things are OK, but could be good with a few tweaks. I suspect the flaws are deliberate, at this point.
    I have discovered that the EDC items recommended by many people are just about worthless.

Is it only that what you have on your person or is that and say in a bag you usually have with you or close by? My day pack is close to 15 lbs and I know I should pear it down. When I leave the house it is usually beside me or in the back seat. This is in case I I had to abandon my vehicle quickly without time to access other areas of the car for additional gear. Anyway, keep doing what your doing!

      @Swearengen1980 Imagine being so arrogant as to assume me giving a name to a good sharpener "for any steel" as to mean D2 is good. Our forefathers used high carbons and stones, D2 is still better than that standard, and diamond field sharpeners are a lot better than stones. Might be best to think before assuming arrogance and typing a pointless paragraph over something I never said...

    • @TheBudgetguy_K.T
      @TheBudgetguy_K.T Год назад

      @Swearengen1980 Bar the arrogance of yourself being snide over imaginary words. Yes, there are a lot of greater steels over D2. That being said, all steel needs honed... And someone wanting to learn while not wanting to waste money on a 3 to 500 dollar knife with this "Super Steel" would benefit from a good D2 skinner for 40 bucks while learning how to carve up you also learn to maintain your blade and avoid nicking it on bones...

    Knife steel isn't always that straight forward and your lifestyle is a factor. I'm a hunter and I've ended up in a situation where I had to skin a buck and didn't have my skinner on me. My cruwear EDC breezed through that processing whereas many lesser pocket knife steels would have needed to be touched up more than once to completely process the whole animal. And in a random situation where you don't have a stone on you either, you're fucked. Does the average yahoo who may cut a box open once a day need better quality steel? No. But to arrogantly try to shit on people for having a better quality EDC than you choose to is asinine. Isn't the very point of EDC to always be prepared? If you can afford it, get whatever the fuck you want.
