- ▶︎▶︎ Yamaha has stunned the MotoGP paddock with a briliant and consistent performance throughout the entirety of Sepang’s Shakedown Test. Fabio Quartararo delivered an exceptional lap time of 1:57.794, making him the only rider to break the 1:58 barrier during the session. This performance marks a significant turnaround for Yamaha after a challenging 2024 season, where the team struggled with consistency, speed, and overall competitiveness. Now, with pre-season testing underway, Yamaha’s pace has set the tone for what could be a game-changing 2025 season. Could Yamaha shake things up in the upcoming campaign regarding the pecking order, and more importantly - should Ducati and KTM be worried about this sudden progress of the Japanese manufacturer?

Did anybody really think Yamaha was not going to make a huge comeback ? It was just a matter of time and the new V4 will also soon be tested .
Yamaha may be the first manufacturer that bring v engine to gp top class, but yamaha already use inline for years. Even all their bike on the market doesnt have any v engine. So it was not that easy
Took them long enough
Fabio is a very fast rider , he needs a fast bike and he’ll be back on the top spot .
Yamaha sits upon the throne in the kingdom of motorcycles
They’re looking good but you can’t call it a comeback it’s a shakedown you’ve got a world champion against rookies and test riders ofc he’s faster! Wait for the test when everyone’s there
Good to see Jack up there as well - especially as he has some pretty useful riders behind him including Dani on the KTM. Sweet !!!
Agree good to see Jack miller up the pointy end
The fact Ducati have been whinging about the concessions yet thats exactly how ducati became competitive
Right they get more fuel per race back than
What for 2 years a decade ago
Yeah Yamaha could win the championship if they were the only ones running
Concession in system has been completely changed it helped but the Ducati philosophy is what’s worked why do you think the Japs are have to seriously restructure the way these teams are ran
Motogp sepang 2024 qualifications is 1.56,337
so it was more than 1 second still slower than last year pole position.
Also quartararo qualification for sepang gp 2024 still better than this test
Was just thinking this. Wait for Jorge, Pecco and Marc to set quali time and Yamahas 1.57 will be 2 sec away from current best times :D
FQ are 1 minute faster than last year... And other will faster 1 minutes too... So, it will be the same... Wait on 2 more days...
Exacly everyone is slow, and that does not show any improvement
So much talk of Quartararo and no mention of Alex Rins at all. If Rins adapts well to the 2025 bike, I think he could be a contender as well, for when he was on the groove back in the Suzuki days, he was at times untouchable. .
We've not seen the best of Quartararo yet I don't think
1.58 is nowhere near a competitive time. last year the pole time was 1.56.337 and historically these bikes get 2tenths quicker each year :\
2024 Official Sepang MotoGP Test - Day 3 - best time is 1m 56.682s so Yamaha hasn't made much progress. Who runs these YT channels?
GP Today, GP News, Sporta 44, Modify Sport..half of the reporting is untrue!!
That was probably clocked with super soft tires that only last for 2 laps.
what was last years lap record?
a second or more faster
Current riders on Yamaha vs test riders and rookies on the Ducati and KTM. We will see when the factory riders join the party.
As a lifelong Yamaha fan this is great news. The past years struggle has been hard to swallow. As for KTM, when they brought Dani Pedrosa onboard as a test rider I knew in only a short matter of time would they go from the back of the pack to leading and winning races.
HELL YEAH,LETS GO TEAM BLUE
Really hope to see Yamaha fight for podiums this season
I remember when everyone was saying the same ole thing about that new Honda, Pol was on. Well... people forget, testing and racing are a little bit different.
Miller dominated day 3 of the shakedown test & Quatararo only surpassed him in the final hour.. Yamaha are back 🤗
This is so great to see. And with the blue-green livery, helmet and leathers, Fabio's looking amazing aesthetically as well!!
I find it hard to believe that KTM and Ducati would be able to get their hands on Yamaha’s data to dissect to help understand the improvements from the 3 day Sepang shakedown.
I call 🐂 💩
wtf would they evern want that data????.. their bikes are still WAY QUICKER than the M1
Gullible people don't seem to realize the GP25s and Aprilias will be in the 1:56s easily...
This, after day 3 of TESTING so take laptimes with a pinch of salt, it's not indicative of where anyones potential truly is so slow your horses 😂. It would be great to see Yamaha and Honda back, we wait and see.
Enter Yamaha ! get em' Fabio!
hey is gay! his lover races in Moto2
@@USAracing awww you’re just jealous you can’t have his pee pee
@ He is also a MotoGP world champion. 🏆
One shakedown does not make a season
Come on Yamaha 💙
Ty. I predicted 1 year ago that Fabio would be in the top 3 end of 2025 season. I posted several lengthy analyses why that would be so. I am happy to see that process well on its way. Kudos to YMR.
Hope you're right and that shakes up the season, be a great time for the Japanese,,happy to hear that,,from Northern Ireland
Tests are tests, and every team follows a schedule. The circuit was literally empty, and just because Quartararo was quite fast, it means nothing. Yamaha simply needed some fast laps to analyze data, and Quartararo, being the fastest and most experienced Yamaha rider, was chosen to do so. That’s it-nothing more, nothing less.
This also explains why Miller and the other Yamaha riders were ‘slower’-they were focusing on other areas. The real question is: where was the performance during the Catalan tests? The bike was literally the same…
We also have to consider that teams like Ducati and KTM are deliberately ‘faking’ their performances because they can’t allow other teams to see their true potential. On the other hand, Yamaha must show its performance.
So yeah, they are playing mind games and trying to intimidate each other, but recovering two years of development delay (because yes, Yamaha was at least two years behind) in just three days of testing is neither easy nor quick.
I don't think this means anything significant for them.
Remember he is the only best rider in that group. Others are test riders and riders who are always at the back. So he is shining. But bring other riders their, he is nowhere to be seen
Yamaha ❤❤❤ the return of silence of a whisper 👍👍👍
So happy for Yamaha and Quatararo.
pecco cooked all of them with the laptime record 1:56:337
We will find out this week when the first proper preseason test gets underway in Sepang.
it's still 1.5 seconds away from what he needs to do, but i do think he will get there when all the teams turn up, then we may even see what Alex Rins can do, he is still a dark horse for me have spent most of last year recovering from injury. Would be great to see both right up there come the end of sepang testing.
As much as I would like to see Yamaha competitive once again, I wouldn't be reading too much into this test, given that Quartararo was one of the few top riders there, on his same, familiar (if developed) machine. We all know how Fabio can make a lot out of a small improvement, being what I would term a 'psychological rider', and I suspect this is all this is.
But for Jack and Aleix to be equal second in this context, both on machines they have only just ridden recently, and not many laps, suggests that Yamaha's progress is not that world-changing. Yes, the extremely generous 'concessions' Dorna have allowed the Japanese manufacturers should reap gains, but I don't expect them to improve as much as the video suggests. The Yamaha, under Fabio, has always been fast on one lap dashes, but in amongst a busy MotoGP field this hasn't always been a reliable guide of race pace.
But there can be little doubt this will be a fascinating season this year, and I can't wait for it to start! I would expect Yamaha and Honda to make gains, but for Ducati to still dominate - at least for the first half of the season. Bring it on.
Good luck beating the Duc’s. You’re gonna need it.
Let's go!!
Yamaha was always strong in Sepang
It’s testing you fool
Hope they get up pointy end but they always do well on clear track on there own lines
Yeah i believe with the new engine development and other changes, they will be right up there.
NOTE! No Ducati, Aprilia, or Ktm motogp riders at test! Sooo blah, blah, blah!
Lets Go Yamaha!
Blue samurai will be back!!!
Ha Ha Ha, stunned the Motogp paddock? what moto GP paddock ? you call this Motogp paddock ?just speculation , just crap 👎
Weak teams will try to go 'qualy run' in tests for morale boost. It means nothing.
Yamaha stop the bleeding at the front 😀🏁
I'll believe it on race day.
I think before making any assumptions about who will be faster than who id like to see the data from practice laps first just before the race event. It would be quite something to see Ducati eating dust again which im hoping this race season. Its about time someone took that smug look off Ducati's face if Ducati lost the whole of this years race season.
So Ducati have dominated for three years, after 50 years of domination of Honda and Yamaha, and you want to "take that smug look off Ducati's face"? Not biased much? Ducati have worked VERY hard, for over 20 years, to achieve what they have, and the reality is that the Japanese makers didn't do enough (any?) development to keep up. Is this Ducati's fault? Shouldn't such a stellar rise of a relatively tiny factory, against the might of the huge Japanese factories, be congratulated?
I think your bias is preventing you from appreciating the degree of difficulty, and the amazing rise against the odds, that Ducati have actually achieved. I would like to see all the makes competitive, but the extreme concessions for Yamaha and Honda now are more generous than anything Ducati enjoyed as they improved their bikes the hard way. With dedicated employees, hard work, and cooperation. Time for Honda and Yamaha to take an honest look at their inaction over recent years.
@patkennedy1 Go tell someone who cares.
@Honky-Tonk-music-modeler Oh OK, I get it. So you're entitled to attack someone you don't know, who has written a considered response to this conversation, but I am not entitled to write anything here? You may be shocked to learn that many on here DO care, and I receive many positive responses to my various comments on the topic of MotoGP. I have watched every practice, qualifying and race for decades, but clearly you have far more insight into the sport I love than I do.
But carry on - you are always right, and no-one else has the right to an opinion. I thought this was called Comments, not Petulant Judgements. My mistake - I hadn't realised that you owned RUclips! I had the temerity to write a comment below here also, if you wanted to add any further insulting and childish judgements there too.
I have only been riding motorcycles for 62 years, still ride almost every day, and had (and worked on professionally) Ducatis for 50 years, so what would I know? I bow to your vastly superior insights. Thank you so much for putting me in my place.
@patkennedy1 Who is attacking who??? Not borthed by you i don't care what you have to say nor do I give a flying F**k your not making me loose sleep over it and it's not me who's bitch crying over it either. So bye 👋 no one else is listening to you.
new engine?? my ass they cant even make a good race in real race not free practice 😂😂😂
YAMAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets see as i don't think the Compétition been asleep😊
As I know,Fabio is always good at sepang, last 3years,Fabio always finished in the top 10... It is too early to be excited with a Yamaha or other team at sepang today, because all star riders with better bikes do not show up in the shake down test....we wait until Ducati and Aprilia riders show what they got...after Friday,we can assume who team who rider will be surprised this year....wait wait
Quartararo is the best rider
I don’t think fabio did proper time attack. In race weeks tracks are cleaner and lines are even much better,no dirts and better grip. He could be closer to 2024 qualifying time though not beat it. Qualifying time is different than race pace.they run 1-1.5 seconds slower than q2 in actual race.I assume yamaha is still 2-3 tenth’s slower than gp24, I mean the bike itself.
The rider’s abilities factors, setup factors on raceweek. Race pace could be much closer now.
But all the big boys where home
That's just tests That's not official bro😅
New MotoGP 2025 season begin..want to see the Iwata brand competitive again at the front to beware the Red machine..Gigi Daligna know it..The Blue are their biggest, closes treat & enemy..will see & wait for it.. YAMAHA SEMAKIN DIDEPAN.
R1V
Huge..!!!ohh....!!😪😪😪😪😪😪
It's way to early to make much of this. If he had got into a 56.. perhaps a single eyebrow would raise.
1.57😂😂😂 what if at the race😅😅😅,
Yamaha is really fast when no one else is around. Wait until the real teams show up before you crown the tuning fork.
Its just testing, calm down
Yeah are already faster then his lap for last year in quali😂
Can't wait see ducati beaten on the track so boring
Too early... Other top rider have not tested their machines yet...the shakedown test is for rookies and non perform teams... Stupid...
We about to witness the biggest Japanese manufacturer comeback!
We know how good Quartararo can be if he has a good bike
