Great video to show how being a good player isn't just about good aim and reflexes. Knowing where to be at crucial moments is what separates the good from the best.
I can tell you that the opposite doesn’t work either I have insane mindgame but the manual part with aim and reflexes is my biggest weakness by far You need to improve both but I believe I’m a rare case 😅
I need to work on both but I definitely have better strategy than aim. I am only S rank but I’ve been noticing I struggle when it comes to executing my strategies in the heat of combat, also low rank players have McDonalds wifi and that screws with the hit detection so that’s a thing too.
This is so eye opening! It just makes me wanna go play now and try to internalize what works for me. It'd be awesome if you could narrate with your voice but I'm sure you have your reasons not to Excellent video!
Thank you! Yeah, unfortunately I'm still not as comfortable doing solo commentary. So especially on a more important video like this one I wanted to make sure I provided something of quality, which I can't always say from my commentary yet. Good luck! Hope the practise goes well!
13:38 DUDE LOVE STAR IS ANOTHER RUclipsR THAT I ABSOLOUTLY ADORE. They do dulies and make splatoon content. I'm glad that two of my favorite splatoon youtubers are in the same video this is wild man.
Man i needed this lol. Recently I got demoted of off X rank (which was to be expected since it was my first time there) and this will probably help. Thanks for the great content Brian!
5:21 Hey, that’s me! This is a very interesting video for anyone interested in knowing your exact thought process when you play. People could definitely learn a thing or two from this.
"my teammate says 'ouch' so I'm checking for flanks". Even in Ranked X my dude, they say ouch to everything...multiple times...lol. Great work. Can't wait to see your Zones, Clams, and Tower content.
If I'm spamming ouch, it's my way of calling my teammates absolute twats. Or I'm trying to get them to look at a flank incoming which eventually wipes them
I'm not X rank but I call Ouch just on reflex from Having It, ig? I only mash it if the person who got me is still pushing though, because I know I at least have trouble hearing the Ouch over the rest of the game most of the time
This is actually extremely helpful. The thought process of when to push/disengage, saying why you made those decisions, and including the parts about awareness. Incredible, informative, and very educational!!! Thank you so much :D
I’m only two minutes in so far but I feel like I’ve learned a lot already. The text commentary allows you to be really precise with words. Great stuff.
Seeing your thought process through this whole thing really motivates me more to really pay attention to all of the things you mentioned, and I agree with the other commenter that it’s not always about reflexes or splats! Love your videos, definitely going to look back on these for making myself better in Splatoon 3
Thank you! I‘m only in A and S+0 but I‘ll try to get used to these things now! Checking the map is still difficult for me bc I need to look at it for like 5secs to even get a small grasp of whats going on and incorporating all of your tips seems nearly impossible for a newbie like me 😅 I guess starting with one of these mechanics (checking comps + gear) might be a good point to start.
it's amazing how you can always notice that information and internalize it, emphasis on always. I've only been able to think at that level once, it was an awesome game, but holy FUCK it was exhausting
Except the aerospray that’s a free kill Dang no respect for the aerospray it seems lol. As someone who wants to get better at rainmaker this video was really helpful(Even tho I play splatterscope)
I'm really good with an Aerospray because it's fast and has good coverage, which works for me, but yeah, it's awful in combat. No range, no accuracy, no power.
This helps me a lot because I have been trying to keep my awareness high lately and it has helped me win and now I can see how a pro takes care of business. Thanks for taking the time to explain your thinking it helps me a lot. Hopefully I can get X rank and be on your team one day because if you are on the other team I am chilling in spawn.
Woah, this was so useful, watched the whole thing with a lot of pausing. Thank you for uploading this, would love more videos with this type of commentary. Maybe add a guide in the description for common abreviations (CDS, TTK, etc)? I hope I can get a lot better at positioning and awareness like you!
God...I'm in X rank I always average 2100 to 2200 but after watching this...I feel like I should go back to A lol. But awesome video, I can sure learn a lot from this.
As I'm getting closer to my first X rank in clamblitz (s+9) I feel like this video helped understand some things to do and not to do, even if this is rainmaker (which is my lowest rank lmao)
Watching this has greatly improved my RM game by at least 100pts. Thank you for the pointers. Would you be doing something similar for the other modes as well?
Thank you! I'm glad to hear so many people like it! I should mention the things I write will be pretty similar across modes. Largely because, in order to understand the important differences in each mode, we need to look at it from a much more fundamental point of view (which this video isn't really doing). Although since many people seem to enjoy it I might do it for other modes anyway. Especially for SZ and CB there will be a somewhat clear difference in the flow of the game.
Sure! Someone asked this earlier, so gonna use what I wrote then. For improving awareness I recommend starting with something as simple as counting to 4. At any point in the game just try to see if you can find all the opponents, and remember you can do this at whatever pace you like. Start with something simple like doing this once after the start of the game, from there gradually take it further. Eventually you can do it while performing other activities like painting or even fighting. Additionally, it's worth noting that a lack of information, is in itself information that you can use. If you're unable to find a certain player, you can use that information to make assumptions on where they could be based on stuff like their weapon, map control, or where you last saw them. Although I should mention, there's no need to worry if you're struggling to notice these things. Awareness is something that takes time, especially if you're still in the process of understanding the mechanics of a game. It's also worth mentioning that part of this awareness comes from understanding the flow of the game, and knowing what actions an opponent could take that has impact on the game. However, this comes more from a fundamental understanding of the modes rather than purely focusing on awareness. So while you practise your awareness, I also highly recommend trying to learn how each mode fundamentally works (which is an entire topic worth discussing in itself). There's obviously a lot more to awareness too, such as avoiding tunnelling (constantly questioning your own actions to avoid falling into habits that could lower your awareness), remembering respawns using the bar on top, camerawork and more. Though I hope this already gives an idea on how to improve more.

Thank you for your time! I have already reached x rank for a few days now before reading this but what you have said means alot and has been very helpful. :)
They are prestige level 2 as indicated by the star on top of the level. This means they surpassed level 99, so essentially they are level 102 (or possibly 202, 302 etc... because it shows only 1 star max).
Great video to show how being a good player isn't just about good aim and reflexes. Knowing where to be at crucial moments is what separates the good from the best.
Yeah game sence is big in splatoon, more then other games

Can you do it, but on Splatoon 3, like it's so good to see how good player think.

Sure! Someone asked this earlier, so gonna use what I wrote then.

Any tips for being as aware of the game as you are? I don’t see or think nearly as much as you do since I’m only s+

Brian, I have a question. Since most Dutch people speak fluent English (94% of the country), do you think or talk in English in your daily life?
Yeah, I talk pretty much every day with people in the Splatoon community, which is all in English. When it comes to thinking, sometimes.
i like it
That's dhot :)
Ayo I’m in the first match
I want your level 😔
Brian your so dhot 😀😍
I didnt realize there was writing until after I read the comments🙄 and writing I can barley see.... Next time maybe try talking... it is a nice video
The writing is not that hard to see, my tb usually cuts off a bit at the bottom and it was all still clearly visible when I watched it on TV
