Really enjoyed this “week in the work-life” video. I have been sewing and upholstering for about 49 years, learning as a child from my mother and grandmother. Your observation at the end of the video was so absolutely SPOT ON. Too much sewing and too hot (I also hate the heat) was a recipe for aggravating mistakes. Now I can mostly feel that mental and physical limit being reached and just walk away.

Thanks for sharing this. I live in an area where I'm the only one that sews clothes. Everyone else sews quilts. It's nice to connect with others that sew clothes.
I find the prep to be the most time consuming but worth it. Far cry from 40+ years ago when I sewed without marks and tried to sew the garment while reading the instructions for the first time. As awful as the first ten years of project were the are still my favorites.
Few people believe me when I say that laying and cutting pieces and fabrics takes the least amount of time. Been sewing for so long, it's easy. Also learning how to do haute sewing made it easier for me because I had confidence in myself.
These days, I don't sew much for others unless its for my grandson or for myself. Most don't want to pay my rates for first class design and construction. Instead they want couture at discount store prices.
A while back there was a discussion about when people can tell if the clothes one sews themselves is noticable by others. In my case it not because the handmade clothes are done badly but because the construction and fabric is of higher quality than expensive ready to wear.

I really liked this video. I'm a beginner fashion designer and a lot of RUclips videos don't really show the behind the scenes of creating a garment. I would be very happy for more videos like this where you show the complete process of developing and creating a garment for a customer, including time management. Thank you ❤

Very nice to see your daily work schedule, and that designing garments to completion is a very multi operational process. It isn’t just sewing. I have been doing this work type of work for 40 years; custom creating garments for individual clients, and your video shows how rewarding this skill is. Would love to see more of your process in time. Also, one observation; we are never wasting time, we use time, that is how we accomplish all these fantastic works of art. 🙏🏼😎👍🏼

Thank you, Frieda. You are a professional with passion for your work. I admire your discipline and organisational skills. I’ve been sewing forever, (starting with making clothes for my barbie when I was 8), I sewed everything for my daughters when they were small. I have tons of fabrics waiting for me, but now I only sew when the mood strikes me.

Words cannot convey how much I enjoyed and learned from this video. I am deeply and sincerely grateful you gave us this glimpse into your work life.
I am in the States, in my mid-30s, and aspiring to someday do what you do. My brain has dress and gown designs running through it all the time, but it wasn't until more recently that I've finally been able to start rudimentary sewing. I am hoping to feel confident and proficient enough in my skills to perhaps attend a local university next year with a promising fashion program.
That I have researched, my area does not have an atelier. Just company chain stores which sell mass produced gowns and dresses for special occasions mostly in synthetic materials. I hope to provide for my community some options which are better quality and totally unique, if that is what the clients are after. Perhaps there is even a local or semi-local business which sells affordable silks, cottons, and linens.
From the first video I ever saw of yours, which was the tulle skeleton dress, I have been an admirer of your skill, creativity, and elegance. That video did wonders to rekindle my desire to design and sew my wedding dress. And owing to how little funds I have available, I'm presently seeking inspiration for a tulle wedding dress design. You know how to make tulle gowns look so luxurious, ethereal, and romantic! I hope and pray you always enjoy making such incredible, unique, and elegant gowns!
May God bless you and your family always, as well as may your business continue to thrive in your care.

Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I am now retired from dressmaking but I was producing gowns and other clothes for about20 years. I learned the toile technique and corsetry from a friend of mine who was professionally trained and also worked with one of Queen Elizabeth’s dressmakers. It is so great for people to learn of the tedious work that goes into creating clothes. I used to think it was so easy and that people overcharge for garments made of affordable fabrics. Now that I am learning to make my own clothes; I have learnt the effort that goes into it makes the price more reasonable than we think.
