Loved this music as a kid. My dad had a clock that played La Paloma as its alarm & I loved to wind the clock just to hear the music. Now La Paloma reminds me of my happy childhood at home.
It's amazing the number of people who were introduced to La Paloma through their fathers. My dad when he was alive used to hum this constantly though I never knew what this piece of music was called. Much later on I learnt the simplified version on classical guitar and I wish he was around to hear it.

'La Paloma' is original from Sebastian Yradier (1809-1865), a spanish musician and composer, and the present guitar arrangement is from Francisco Tarrega (1852-1909).
Amazing technique. Excellent tone and feeling. La Paloma (the Dove) lives again.
Amazing song, along with Amazing Grace. This is about a White Dove (Holy Spirit) a sailers love & voyage. I have traced it back to the 1800’s. My dad played it on a Mandolin Banjo starting in the 40’s, I was his favorite song. I love it too. Jim
Though the peice isn't too difficult to "play", it is immensely difficult to interpret it with true emotion and phrasing. To me, this is one of the ultimate Tárrega pieces that tests one's ability to play with gentleness and feeling. One cannot simply play La Paloma with a consistently set tempo. Rubato is what makes this peice more beautiful than it needs to be. Bravo!!

Love to hear Stefan play his guitar, esp La Paloma. One of my favorites.
Time passes and I never get tired of listening to this magnificent interpretation of the dove. I hope one day to be able to play it with the feeling that Stefan does.

El compositor fue el español Sebastián Iradier los arreglos para guitarra son de Francisco Tárrega (compositor y guitarrista español). Tuvo mucho éxito en México cuando Maximiliano de Habsburgo fue emperador, era su canción favorita.
También hay que reconocer que los Españoles,son unos excelentes guitarristas.

It was composed by Yradier. Tarrega arranged it for guitar.
My personal favorite version of this piece. Every moment he had ever practiced or played guitar, was in every move he made. Probably the one time you want your work to be one hundred percent complete, and let it shine.

Efectivamente, la canción es de Yradier, pero Francisco Tárrega hizo el arreglo para solo de guitarra. El intérprete, Schmitz, lo hace bastante bien, puesto que la obra es apta para una interpretación nostálgica y reposada. Me gustó.

La Paloma is composed by the great spanish composer Sebastian Yrradier who also wrote the Habanera from Bizet's Carmen.

Sebastián Iradier: Fue conocido principalmente por sus habaneras y especialmente por la titulada La Paloma, compuesta alrededor de 1860 tras una visita a Cuba. Ésta se hizo extremamente popular en España y en América, y fue responsable de la fuente de popularidad que alcanzó la habanera.
Totalmente cierto, no se por que han puesto Francisco Tarrega.
Deberían haber aclarado versión para guitarra de Francisco Tarrega.
Efectivamente el compositor fue el español Sebastián de Iradier con arreglos para guitarra de Francisco Tárrega (compositor y guitarrista español). Tuvo mucho éxito en México cuando Maximiliano de Habsburgo fue emperador, era su canción favorita.
@@auroservin8675 Concretamente de la emperatriz Carlota. Es por eso que los republicanos desvirtuaron la letra, burlándose de los emperadores, pues sabían del gusto de la emperatriz por esta canción. Que bien le hubiera ido a Mejico con tan magnifico emperador.
@@Recalamidad Evidentemente hay muchas canciones de la época del segundo imperio en México, pero “La paloma” y “Adiós mamá Carlota”, son quizá, las más representativas.
La canción “La paloma” del compositor Sebastián de Iradier nace durante un viaje que hizo a Cuba, originalmente con ritmo de Habanera. En ese momento, Cuba seguía siendo una colonia española. Aunque la registró en España dejó la referencia de ser una canción americana. No fue compuesta para la emperatriz Carlota de Austria ni para el emperador Maximiliano de Habsburgo. Sin embargo, en otro viaje de Iradier, pero esta vez a México, rápidamente se popularizó la canción entre el público debido a que la emperatriz Carlota solicitó a una cantante de teatro: Concha Méndez (muy estimada por Carlota), la interpretara pues había sido muy del gusto del emperador y, por tanto, se volvió como la favorita de los republicanos quienes le adaptaron una letra nacionalista. Una vez que cayó el Segundo Imperio, surge otra versión de esta bella canción con letra como:
“Si a tu ventana llega un burro flaco
Trátalo con desprecio, que es un austriaco.
Ni siquiera lo mires por tu ventana
Porque no quiere gringos la mexicana.”
En cuanto a “Adiós mamá Carlota” ahí sí, dedicada y compuesta para la emperatriz Carlota; su autor el mexicano Vicente Riva Palacio (político, militar, escritor y jurista). La intención de la dedicatoria era burlarse de la emperatriz y también se volvió muy popular, especialmente entre los liberales que no perdían la oportunidad de hacerlo. " La Paloma" is originally a music from the Basque composer Sebastian de Yradier i Salaverri in 1864.
His other famous composition, the Habanera "El Arreglito" was performed also in 1864 at the italian imperial theater of Paris where Bizet heard it . He arranged the melody, the harmony and the orchestration that he included in his opera " Carmen" as the tune "L'amour est enfant de bohème" thinking it was an anonymous traditional spanish folk tune.
