Very interesting. I haven't heard of this man before and I also had never thought of this being legal in various different countries. When I think of assisted dying, I always think of Dignitas, probably because it's the most well known. As I said, I've never heard of this man before, but just from watching your video, all he was doing was trying to help people, an act of kindness and he ended up in jail because of it, because other's didn't agree. Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing this, I love the different variety of your videos, I am always learning something 😊

I live in Washington state where assisted suicide is legal. The Death with Dignity Act was passed in 2008 and enacted in 2009.
My mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2008. If the option for assisted suicide was available to my mother, I would have supported her to the end. She died in the summer of 2008 and the following November, the Death With Dignity was passed.

I never saw how that ended. One thing I do know is we will never know what these poor folks are going through till it happens to us. I do believe suicide is a sin. Which they were. Telling them I loved them. Comforting families. I am old now and think about these things for me. What will I want. Nothing is the same for all. Each has to choose. This is a haed thing for flks. That is why they have living wills. Not everyone wants one of those. Each person needs to decide for themselves. I guess I think the person should have that right as long as the family are ok. If not then as an old fart I would do anything to keep from hurting my family. But sooner or later some folks have to face this. Though they may not get relief.

Little fun fact for those who don't know: The Volkswagen van Kevorkian used for many of those procedures was acquired a few years ago by Zac Bagins for his museum. Kevorkian's former attorney Geoffrey Fieger contested the validity of the van as he had paid to have it towed to a scrap yard and destroyed. (Someone at that yard initially tried to sell it to the pawnbrokers from Hardcore Pawn and were turned down before Bagins found out about it). Zac ultimately invited Fieger to come to the museum and examine the van for himself which he did, and conceded that the van was the real deal.
As for the controversy, I seem to recall that someone convinced a great number of the elderly that the government would use assisted suicide to eventually just start offing people for getting old. I even remember a commercial aired when the debate was up for a vote, a really dark scenario where the senior citizens were being herded onto buses after tearful farewells to thier families and driven away.

Dr. Kevorkian was a true American hero, if someone truly deserved a novel peace prize, it was definitely him. I totally agree with his views, when someone has an incurable physical or mental disability or ailments that would no longer like to live with the condition, you should definitely be able to decide when they want to leave this earth, and have the help of competent and compassionate medical professionals to help you leave this world with comfort and dignity, and no government nor sick and ignorant religious fanatics should continue to step in and prevent that. You’re deciding over your own life, not someone else’s. Utterly disgraceful that Dr. Kevorkian was tried and imprisoned like a total criminal. Thankfully in part thanks to Dr. Kevorkian’s fight and movement for his cause, some states now have laws that allow and provide medically assisted suicide, but under certain requirements, though it should be more accessible to more people.

Sacrificed his career, reputation, and freedom for the rights of terminally ill and suffering patients. He was able to spare his patients and their families from unbearable suffering.

I learned more about his death here than any where else. Of course most have heard of him.knew he went to prison.most forgot how he died or had just plain forgot about him. I wonder how many have terminal illnesses and medication don't ease the pain no more. Would you rather keep suffering or want someone to help end it all. I remember some years ago a elderly lady in so much pain said to me. She wished Dr Death was still alive to help her end her pain. All I could do was pray for her. Sometimes we have put ourselves in thier place to understand why they asked him for help. Now days they have a living will. That way no body can interfere with thier dying. It is true. After a while pain medication don't work.Hospice has thier own Drs now. I don't think I could assist in anyone's death. Great video.👍. Today they call people who assist in helping someone pass. A.mercy killer. Thank you for reminding me how he died. I either forgot he had cancer, or just plain forgot. Love, respect and positivity always . Neita james. 🙌🧘‍♀️🦋🌠🌻🌷🙂👋.

I have always felt as if he did nothing wrong. I am from Michigan, so knew of him. He helped people die with dignity and in the way they chose. This world is really messed up when they will put an animal down when it is ill and no one thinks twice about it, yet when Doctor Kevorkian helped others end their life he was punished for it....

The most evil people are the unscrupulous doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies that keep making millions in profits in the name of so called “treating” patients, and billing citizens outrageously for medical bills. Dr. Kevorkian was the true American hero, you’re and your mother are much more evil and disgraceful people than Kevorkian was.

We definitely heard the controversy from the media back in the day. But I think he believed that patients should have the right if they were terminal to have their wishes met, even if it meant getting a little help. My ex-mother-in-law, after her dad lingered from Alzheimer's, said, "If I ever get dementia, shoot me." She didn't want to waste away like that. I think a lot of patients who are terminal want to be remembered as they were when they were vital and not as the disease takes them. The family doesn't always agree. Therein lies the controversy. It was interesting that he stood up for a patient's right to choose their own death.

I believe all he was trying to do was help folks I saw my grandfather at end of his life with Alzheimer's I will tell you this it's was very ugly. So those with MS and such they should have the right to die with their self worth in tact.

I remember this story like if it was yesterday I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer and my mother was prepared to go in be with the Lord turn down chemo two months after they gave her 6 months she refused chemo however me being Christian I believe nobody give life and nobody take life I don't knock or agree with what this man was doing I just feel that what he should have did is made it comfortable for the individual to make that transition comfortable without any drama as always no disrespect intended New York City USA 🤍🖤🤎💜💙💚💛🧡❤
