    Railroading I saw as a teenager! The early transition period was interesting with the PC power, CR patches, and first glimpses of Conrail Blue. I noted GP38-2 #8045 at the head end of one train. That loco was a popular Ho scale mode offered by Athearn that I have and often run on my model railroad layout. Thanks for posting!

      That was a great time Ralph, and it will be missed. I believe I have one of those GP38's on my PC layout as well. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for more coming soon.

      Penn central ordered GP38-2s? I'm confused. I thought they didn't and all of their equipment came from the Pennsylvania and the NYC.

      @@MystiCmeshtool Here's a Wiki article for what its worth noting the PC purchased 223 GP38-2s that later kept their same numbers (7940-8162) as part of Conrail.

    Rocking Grime with PC. Neat to see the old freight cars. I was in Junior High then.

    I remember some of these trains being ex-EL like PO-98, NY-74, others. Bittersweet memories for EL fans like me , but still fantastic that you had the opportunity to get this stuff onto film! Thanks Jack!!

    It’s amazing that at least one New York Central painted locomotive made it to Conrail. I thought Penn Central was thorough in repainting the locomotives at least. I’m glad they were not.

    Nice color (the greenery is prominant) in this old film. I don't mind the camera noise. I'm just glad stuff like this is here.
    Favorite scene would be the mixed freight, with some GP40s, passing what looked like an old depot, with weedy, neglected track - a contrast to the mainline, and an interesting model railroad idea.

    Excellent video. I come back to watch your videos whenever I can, and I never get tired of them. As someone who watches the trains in Ridgefield Park, it's interesting to see the difference in the way the area looks now compared to the scene in this video. It was also interesting to see the Conrail trains in Peekskill.

    At 8:06, did anyone else catch the PC/ NYC green door on the Pennsylvania boxcar? Indicicitave of how "black and blue" the system was after Penn Central.

  • @leehuff2330
    @leehuff2330 6 лет назад

    One could say that those were the black and blue years on more than one level, as they were trying to rebuild after the Penn Central disaster.

    Wow i remember the old days I was in high school then and wanted to work at Bethlehem steel but thanks to the Reagan era they closed when I was a senior in high school that made me sick to watch how the government destroyed our industrial power and gave way to China just sick I wanted to work for the railroad as well like the Erie lackawanna but like the demise of the steel industry support industry suffers so did the rail industry sad it may be but true I lucked out in 1990 with conrail that was the greatest employer I ever had till csx then it was the end csx is not a good employer to work for they don’t care about the employee not at all I’m now retired now and it’s sad how things are today and Obama’s positive train controle. Made things worse railroading today is not railroading at all it’s just transportation and that’s all it is railroading in true spirit is now dead and gone thanks to politics and greedy management also technology killed the railroad spirit and true railroader and engineers as well todays new railroader are not real true railroad men they are book and computer geek railroaders that don’t even know how and can’t use straight air on a train now you can’t say that’s their. Fault for not getting the proper training on how to but with trip optemiser and company rules as well as positive train controle how can they be the best of the best real railroaders are the ones that was there before the high tech computers came in the game and ran the railroad without the gimmicks that’s in place today we ran trains by our smarts and skills without the governments help and the high tech Computer garbage that is now in place today
